Sanawad (सनावद) is a town in Khargone district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Location

Sanawad is located at 5 km from Motakka/Omkareshwar road. Nearby cities include Khargone, Khandwa, Barwaha and Indore. Sanawad is currently connected with Railway route to Khandwa. Nearest Airport is in Indore Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport.

Economy

It is a popular center for the trade of cotton and wheat.
The economy is primarily based on agriculture and trade. The main crops grown are cotton, chili, wheat and soybean.

Sanawad is prime economic centre for around 20-25km radius,it is also known for its rich market and trading. Traders from many nearby villages trade here.

•Sanawad is also well known for Avanti textile mill from where threads are sent to various parts of the country.

History

The town of Sanawad was formerly known as Gulshanabad.

Sanawad was home to freedom fighters Brij Mohan Sharma (also known as Birju Seth), Shri Mangilal Patni, Kamal Chand Jain (or Master Saab) and Jagdeesh Vidyarthi ; all of whom were active in opposing British rule. The Misa bandhu is Lala Jivandas Bansal And Vimalchand Patni.

The town is around 10 km from Raverkhedi village where Bajirao I spent his last time and died.

Culture

Sanawad has cultural sites such as the Namokar Dham Jain temple garden near the Jain temple Podumpuram, Digambar Jain Temple which is more than 100 years old and religious sites such as Omkareshwar. Sanawad is located at 5 km from Motakka/Omkareshwar road. Every December a Mela is held in Sanawad.

सनावद भारत के मध्य प्रदेश राज्य के खरगोन ज़िले में स्थित एक नगर है. इंदौर - खंडवा सड़क पर स्थित यह शहर अपने पॉलिटेक्निक महाविद्यालय के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। सनावद का पुराना नाम शंकरपुरा है। जिले में शहर की राजनीतिक स्थिति मजबूत है। यह नर्मदा नदी के निकट (लगभग 7 किलोमीटर), इंदौर से 70 किलोमीटर और खरगोन (जिला मुख्यालय) और बड़वाह से 10 किलोमीटर जो तहसील से 60 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित है।

अर्थव्यवस्था व संस्कृति: इसकी स्थानीय अर्थव्यवस्था मुख्य रूप से कृषि और व्यापार पर आधारित है। आसपास के क्षेत्र की मुख्य फसल गेहूं, कपास और सोयाबीन है। यहां का शीतला माता मेला बहुत प्रसिद्ध है। मध्य - प्रदेश की सबसे छोटी बस स्टैंड चल रही है। नहर काम की वजह से निर्माण की कोर के कारण शहर खरगोन जिले में अपनी छाप बना रही है। सबसे पहले यहां पर शिव भगवान का भव्य मंदिर था जिसे मुगलों ने तोड़ दिया था यह शहर मध्यप्रदेश, के प्रमुख शहरों इंदौर, खंडवा आदि से अच्छी तरह से सड़क द्वारा जुड़ा हुआ है। इस शहर का सबसे पुराना नाम शंकरपुरा था यहां पर भारी संख्या में यादव लोग रहते हैं और कुछ प्रकार तक जैन धर्म वाले भी रहते हैं
