Ghatiala (घटियाला)[1][2] Ghantiala (घंटियाला) Ghatiyala (घटियाला) Ghatala (घटाला) Ghitala (घिटाला)[3][4] Ghintal (घिन्टाल)/Ghintala (घिन्टाला)[5] [6]Ghantala (घंटाला) is gotra of Jats found in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh.

Origin

  • This gotra is said to have originated from place name Ghantiyala (घंटियाला), which is 20 km north of Jodhpur. Some historians suggest that these people came from Marwar with their cattle. The cattle were with hanging bells(ghanti in Hindi = घंटी) in their necks so they were called Ghantiala (घंटियाला). [7]
  • Ghantasala (घंटसाल) is a village in Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Ghantasala was once a flourishing town of Indo-Roman trade as well as an important religious centre. The Buddhist relics and the Hindu structures at the place reveal its past glory. Carved limestone columns belonging to pillared halls associated with Buddhist monastic establishments (2-3rd centuries BC ) have been discovered. The ruined Maha Chaitya or stupa that was excavated here is of a unique design. A cube of solid bricks is set in the centre, inscribed with 12 constellations of the zodiac.[8] It is likely that Ghantasala changed to Ghantala due to language difference as 'Sa' changes to 'Ha' in Marwar. There is need to further research in this matter.
