Creative Movies of all Times

But for your omission of his chef-d'oeuvre Raging Bull (was that deliberate? ), the whole analysis couldn't have been more apt.

Nope of course it definitely wasn't deliberate (gosh; there are so many, and I am probably missing some more!), but just that this another great movie's name (Raging Bull) proves my point exactly! ;) .....

....they had a simple way of life, minded their business and believed in honor and freedom.....thats where the phrase comes from...the spartan way of life.....the simplicity...

Right on, and reading about them actually makes some great and interesting study ....and one part really intrigued me (and was also somewhat glorified in the movie too);
Apparently their (Spartan) military state culture DID emphasize the need for young able bodied boys as young as 7 years old to spend time in a system where not only education but intense military training was a must....whereupon these (young soldiers) were sent into the countryside with nothing and forced to survive on their skills and cunning; this was apparently called the krypteia, believed to be some a sort of initiation rite.

Very...very amazing!

Rashomon.

Incredible movie!

Recommended (over and over :o ) by a friend and I’m glad that I did pay heed to him finally and saw this great movie and I was not disappointed.

Fantastic script, great cinemetography, excellent acting!
A fine breakthrough drama by Kurosawa (never got a chance to see any of his movies but now I know what I’ve been missing all this while).

Settings are in Japan. A murder and a rape narrated in flashback sequences by four different people, one witness and three others connected with the incident. The thrilling part is all three have different things to say, three different versions of what happened and each one of them seem to be equally true.

I can bet that not only your audio-visual system but your brain too will be actively involved throughout the movie in a struggle to think what exactly transpired actually. An incredible conflict of truth and perspective.

I was totally hooked. Looking forward to watch some more of him now.

One suggestion though: watch it when there is no distraction around.

You mean it's one of those ('Groundhog day') types/kinda movie where the same exact scene is repeated numerous times but with different angles, narrative, viewpoints???.......hmmmm, doesn't sound like something too down my preffered lane; but will try looking it up if you recommending it so highly!!!... ;)
Subtitled I am guessing?...

Naaaahhhhh..not your type...

Yep, right on!!!! Exactly, same scene repeated million times:D
Guess, not for you though subtitled in English (But why do you need subtitles, we conversed in Japanese last time, and you were pretty good...hehehehe....:p )

...Nope maam, you are surely mistaken now, aren't ya; that must have been the Japanese Departmental head-honcho calling out for you to wake up and watch those test-tubes, containers and pipits before the lab goes up in smoke!!! Heh! Heh!......... Juuuuuuust kidding... ;)

Ok so I figure you saying I stay clear of the movie...!!!
A bummer that if there ever was one, was sooooooooo looking forward to some black-and-white-Japanese-subtitled-cloak-and-dagger-thriller magic, where the actress (when getting murdered) actually screams in good ol' English! :D :D :D

Old Western!

....Rented this old western (it's one of those hidden among the zillion old westerns that you never hear about now)...
By the name of 'Conagher' (main lead played by the cool actor Sam Elliott)

This movie is almost some sort of a love song to the wild west ways and to the culture of those times (cow punching, outlaws, rustlers etc.)....and is based on the novel by the man who is considered the king when it comes to western novels, yes none other than Louis L'Amour.
There are breathtaking scenes of open land and the cinematography, the casting, the acting, the costumes, the sets, the direction, and the overall feel of the piece is just about PERFECT...

Plus it has plenty of raw gun action (very very well done for a movie that is supposedly quite old)

I know we had a discussion here earlier about western movies, and this one is definitely one for the viewing collection!

Akira

Incredible movie!

Your friend, I presume, has a good taste (yum..eeek). Did s/he recommend Throne of Blood by the same director? No? Oh, not something to be missed! Adapted from Macbeth. Forget Maqbool and others, this is the best ever screen adaptation of any of Shakespeare'splay(allow me to be slightly judgemental as I also have a good taste;) ).

BTW, Maqbool se yad aaya, the flick had some really good numbers.

Lardi di Biciclette

Now here's a movie that touches you like no other. De Sica's The Bicycle Thief is as simple as it can get. Set in post War Italy, the movie about a man's struggle to get a job, which would be his only if he has a bicycle. He gets one (actually both: the bicycle and by the virtue, the job) only to have it stolen. Then on his desperate search begins which, you guessed it, yields nothing. At last... (Go and watch the movie. I m not gonna reveal it).

An amazing neo realist movie, which leaves you with a myriad of emotions -- a must watch.

oh man...that sounds like a really intense movie....nice...it somehow reminds me of Tsotsi (which i haven't seen :o ) but its all about a boy's struggle in conflict zone in SA (i think)...its a good one i keep hearing but never got a chance to see...

If you want to be on the lighter side of things...can suggest a ludicrous comedy...blades of glory...has Will Ferrell (did anyone see Talladega Nights?? what a comedy...although i still think i didn't catch all the jokes on american life being culturally a little different)....This Will Ferrell has suddenly blasted on stage...he's a great actor....there was an amazingly different movie...i cant remember the name now but will come with it.....in the mean time...watch blades of glory for some laughs...

Got it! Its called 'Stranger than Fiction'.......has anyone seen it? Really liked the plot of a taxman (Will Ferrell) who can keep hearing i what he's thinking and what he's going to do in a narrative (in a woman's voice).........people who like strange plots, i recommend this one :D

P.S: I loved the crazy writer.......

brand Kanadiana

Some Canadian humour in 'bon cop bad cop'...all about the french and english quarters and their ways...funny in its own right....over here the humour is a little twisted and the cinema a little underdveloped...but very embracing and creative....:)

No Chaplin fan around? Seems we, the movie-goers, have become too complex for his brand simplistic comedy.

I badly miss those good ole Doordarshan days when they used air his movies every Sunday morning.

One particularly movie touched me the most (sorry, can't recall the name). It was about a poor blind girl, whom Chaplin give some money albeit very reluctantly ( as he himself had little to spare). She went on to become a florist and years later when Chaplin approaches her, she recognises him by his touch. Simple as that, but it left an indelible impression on my mind.
