Which Gotra is the Biggest among Jat

I think, the biggest Gotra is Malik/ Gathwala.

Some of you have written Hooda and that is bit strange to me.Any idea about Hooda villages in Rajasthan and UP. I believe, there aren't more than two dozen villages of Hoodas in haryana.

Mukesh, you said," Dhaka is the bigget Gotra in Rajasthan". How about Punia/ Poonia/ panu?

There are about 92-93 village of Deshwal/ Deswal Gotra , almost equally distributed in Haryana, UP and Rajasthan

Godara is the biggest Jat gotra ( my guess )

Rajasthan : more than 500 villeges ( maybe upto 1000 villeges )
Haryana : approx 100 villeges in Sirsa, Fatehabad and Hisar distt only ..didn't considered rest of Haryana.
Punjab : approx 50 villeges in Abohar, Fazilka area only

Don't know exactly about Delhi, UP and other States.

This subject was discussed in 2006. Read this thread : biggest Jat gotra

Without reliable statistics, it is difficult to say which gotra is ‘biggest’, though a few large gotras can be discussed. In the above thread, most of the members agreed that ‘Malik’ is perhaps the biggest (i.e. widespread) gotra.

For your general knowledge and humor, the following thread by Dev Dahiya is quite interesting:

Gottan Ki Khas Baat, per Bhaiyo Bura Kati Nahin Maniyo

.<O:p</O:p

1.punia is the biggest gotar
2.dhillon
3gill
4sangwan
5sheoran
6sidhu/barar

Wrong ..... bhai ...... try to analyze again.

There are more Gadara, Beniwal, Sihag than Punia.

Sangwan have more population than Dhillon and Gill ( very rare ..... in Jats .... didn't included Jatt Sikh Gills )

Also Sindhu/Brar people can be found liberally in Jatt Sikhs rather than jats

Tomar : They ruled ancient Delhi but nowdays mostly contented to western UP only. Maybe 200 villeges at most .

Malik : They are spread all over Haryana except the western region of Haryana.

Dahiya : Same as above but Maliks are better spread over.

Hooda : Rohtak maybe the area only where they dominent in Jat population. They hardly found outside that area.

Deswal : Mostly found in western UP ( in bulk ) ... honestly i don't consider them a biggest gotra in Jats.

Sangwan is the only gotra which can give some attention to get compared with Godara and Beniwal, Sihag etc .....

Friends ....... please just try to come out of Haryana as population of Jats in Rajasthan is much more than Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, UP combined ( 300 squares miles almost 10 Haryana ...... triangle between Barmer, Bharatpur and Ganganagar ........)

I bet that there are more than 1500 villeges of Godara's and more than 700 villeges of Beniwal's.

What say ?

Hooda for sure is not a big Gotra. I think it will fall among smaller Gotras. I doubt if Hoodas have even more than 8-10 villages all over India. However, Hoodas dominate like no one else...LOL...and no one knows better than me..

I am not sure Vijay, but the figure of 1500 villages looks an exaggeration. Maybe the figure is correct but the population of those villages may be thin.

Unlike Dahiya gotra which is concentrated within a big khap in Sonepat district, Deswals are one of the widespread ones - some villages each in Jind, Panipat, Jhajjar and Rohtak in Haryana and in Bulandshahr/ Meerut/ Muzaffarnagar districts of UP and some villages in distt. Bharatpur (Rajasthan). Still, I do not think it is 'biggest' in number. As I wrote above, Maliks are more widespread and one of the biggest. Deswals also have a tradition of maintaining "Bhaichara" with Dalal, Suhag and Maan gotras.

DND uncle, aap to Western UP se nahi ho, if I aint wrong.;):p

For the knowledge of self-acclaimed Historian here, there're only 4 village of Deswal or Deshwal's in Western UP!!:rolleyes:

Origin of Deswal is in Haryana somewhere, am forgetting the name of the village thou; DND n Satypal bhaisaab can u shed some light on this!!:)

as for me, MALIK is the biggest Jat gotra, they found everywhere and; even in Sikh & Muslim Jats!!:)

We do not know definitely which is the biggest Jat gotra. Let us try Google search. It shows following numbers:

Rana - 16,200,000

Malik - 13,000,000

Dhaka - 9,870,000

Char - 231,000

Punia - 77,800

Jakhar - 41,800

Beniwal - 30,000

Deswal - 25,600

Burdak - 22,200

Godara - 35,000

Sihag - 18,800

It may certainly not include only jat gotras. It has all entries about the word on net.

Punia most probably is biggest Jat gotr.

Gills are more numerous than Sangwan.

Last correction Sindhu and Sidhu are different and both Jat Sikhs and Hindu Jats are Jats .
