Dear members..try pour in your inputs truthfully.I liked BHISHM PITAHMAH because of his maryada and grace irrespective of his helplessness on a few occasions. No character stands near to him.

.
Apart from Bhishma (undoubtedly the ‘yugpurush’), the only other character of his standard is ShriKrishna, whom I like most.

Read my thread : SHRIKRISHNA – The Greatest Yogi Of All Times

Mahabharata is a work that has influenced me in a big way. It is so vast that there is nothing that you cannot find here. Its a vast gallery of characters and stories. It presents life itself in all its aspects. All the tendencies and all the emotions find a place in it.

If i have to choose a character that admire the most then its a bit difficult task because all the characters are vivid and vibrant. But still i like and admire the character of Krishna the most. He is a larger than life character and has got all the colours in his personality...he is an ardent lover, a valiant warrior, a shrewd statesman, a faithful friend, a protective brother, an artist, a cunning man and so on... The whole of Mahabharata is filled with him. He is a character one cannot ignore.

Other characters that i admire are Draupadi, Bhishma, Arjun and Yudhishthira. Draupadi for her spiritedness and independence of character. She has an amazing strength of character. Bhishma for his strength of will..he is like a dense, strong and old tree standing upright through ups and downs. Arjun..simply because he is arguably the best warrior. And finally Yudhishthir for his righteousness. He is dharma incarnate...he is a person who stands by what is right all through his life barring a few exceptions.

Ekalavya, without any doubt !! :)

You all know why, Even after being rejected by Drona, Ekalavya embarks upon a program of self-study in the presence of a clay image of Drona. He achieves a level of skill equal to that of Arjuna, Drona's favorite and most accomplished pupil. Fearful that Ekalavya will excel him, Arjuna begs Drona to take action. Drona goes to Ekalavya and demands that Ekalavya turn over his right thumb as a teacher's fee. The loyal Ekalavya cripples himself, and thereby ruins his prospects as an archer, by severing his thumb and giving it to Drona.

Rock on

Good thread.

Genuine aim of Mahabharata seems to revolve around the only incident which provided mankind ; the most scientific, intellectual and pragmatic way for life on this planet where life is compartmentlised in to days and night i.e the incident of Geeta-Updesh. Mahabharta itself is a part of Upnishads I think. Incaranation of the pesonality of Godhood seems to achieve its goal with Vishwa-Roop.

All character knitted up to represent various persoanlities of human life and in conclusion God himself taught them the way of salavation.

I wonder that still World didnt nominate the Geeta in any category. May be due the fact that this is above any category.

I would not go for any particular character rather for the statement:-

'Anaskati mein Askati'.

It was central Character Arjun's emotional instablity and weakness which made us God to come up and shower this brilliant piece which is best that any Humnaly work in Human history.

To me "Karna" the best... indeed the most fascinating character of the epic. loyalty, righteousness nd charity was deep embedded in his soul... nd a great unsurpassed warrior.

karna serves as an excellent example of a gifted, generous, righteous nd brave individual who was still doomed because of his loyalty towards the evil. his affection for duryodhana led him to, albeit unwillingly, assist his dear friend in all his immoral and unjust actions against the pandavas... despite of the fact tht he was aware of duryodhana's malicious plans agnst pandavas. he was also aware of his own imminent downfall for assisting the evil against the good. the only blemish to his name is his treatment of draupadi, nd his role in the killing of the unarmed and outnumbered abhimanyu... but agn all is fair in love nd war.

the whole epic is full of gr8 characters, to pick one is really a difficult task, but still "karna" goes favourite with me.

This one is a very interesting thread ...Mahabharat is the most dramatic epic of india ...........
the characters which i lived are of Krishna ,Karan ,Bhishm and Gandhari...Bhishm for his vigour strength and to be so patient and selfless person.......Gandhari for his truthfulness to show right path to his husband when ever he moved wrong .....in Putra Moh....to always stage the truth even to his son ..may she was never followed.. when the story is ending and the three Gandhari Dhridrashta and Kunti are moving to Jungle..... Dhridrashtra was shown interested to stay back and not to leave all the worldly n materialsitic issues......she forfully tkes him away ....... Krishna who explained things with his satires .........and karan for strength and loyalty ........keeping his words for his frens .........he was a Fighter

Although all the characters are interesting and i believe no movie story can beat this gr8 epic ever .!!:)

Each and every character named here is unique in their own sense. According to me Arjuna is THE BEST.
He simply obeyed whatever his elder brother Yudishtra and his mother Kunti said.

Characters of Mahabharat were depiction of real life characters... so they were all blend of positive and negative traits. I liek many characters for their strength of character or skills.

Bheeshm - for the dedication
Arjun - for his skills n humbleness
Karan - for his friendship
Ofcourse Krishna - for all teh manipulations
n the varition is i liked charater of Shakuni also - for all the tactics :)
