Some points from my side ....

First thing first , Shweta , it really bothers me that you chose such a topic! Dont get me wrong , a discussion should be meant to explore and in which there are certain things that are to be ascertained. I find nothing in the topic that needs to be discussed , there are truths and then there are gospels , you can't deny gospels i believe!
Would have been much better if the writer in Shweta would have expressed her feelings on all these things in a blog format! Discussion is certainly not the right word , and in any case , i beleive that your opinion on the topic is so strong and formed that you will not change, do you ? You need not actually and that is why i would refrain from calling it a discussion ! :)

Again , I am disappointed and to a great extent that you started such a thing , you proabably know before hand who is going to say what ! Dont you ?
And it is immature on your part to believe taht you can change people here , and it only gives an opportunity to those who think the wrong way to put their opinion forward!
And again it should be the quality that should have mattered to you rather than getting all to be on your side ! JS Malik Sir , Satyender Deswal Sir and other "sensible" (bold faced and underlined on purpose) have expressed their opinion and they would be same barring some individual differences but simialr in tone in general! :)

Next , you have no rights to ask someone to ignore the thread! Respect people's opinion and beliefs! :) Preach what you can practise , you "should" have ignored the comments ( which you , yourslef categorise as dirty ) and that s hould have been IT! :)

Last but certainly not the least , You cannot change every one's opinion , there will be differences and they will remain , internalise this and you would do good! :)

A couple of quotes to sum it up:

“There are large numbers of people who simply don't have the values and vision necessary to be part of an inter-dependent world. They think their differences -- whether religious, political, tribal or ethnic -- are more important than our common humanity. They believe the truth they have justifies their imposition of that truth on other people, even if it takes them to the death of innocents.”

I believe you are not part of this large group and so you should be! :)

“Except for their genitals, I don't know what immutable differences exist between men and women. Perhaps there are some other unchangeable differences; probably there are a number of irrelevant differences. But it is clear that until social expectations for men and women are equal, until we provide equal respect for both sexes, answers to this question will simply reflect our prejudices.”

Anil

Was it started for criticism? Just go through all the posts of mine where it i have quoted dirty comments of some people around and it hurts to see people passing such poor statements.

and then look at the out of context foul comments people are coming out with, without there being any pertinent reason ! How long can one keep mum?

And in case u see no use, you may kindly ignore the thread outright.

Hi Richa,

It seems you look at Jatland as a learning book... its fine... but let me tell you from my experience you'll not find any conclusion to any issue here. People have different perspectives and seldom they change and very rarely they agree to disagree. btw, I would love to see you 'writing'!

I am not too much active to reply and write thread, but I would like to mention, conclusion of every thread is same so far. No meaning of categories. We usd to come here to find a conclusion on any debete especially soical responiblity like forum. Not come to see here Chunha Billi ki nok jhok..

Bhai Anil... nice quotes:)!

Accha ek baat hai jo maine note si kari abhi padhne pe...

Shweta never really asked anyone to ignore any thread or post. She provided one option as she said...
"And in case u see no use, you may kindly ignore the thread outright". There is nothing wrong in helping people know the option(s) they never seem to consider. You may have noticed quite a few times, the JL Administrator tells us about the option to ignore any posts/threads or for that matter the latest changes in the look-and-feel. Please refer to thread "Improvements needed for Jatland" for more details. And, I think he's right.

At the same time you are also right that Shweta could have ignored 'the' comments some of which were as offending as... Baaju me damm hai to confidence hai main jeetunga... types! Bach ke rehna chhaiye aise logo se kahi gala naa ghont de humaara internet pe hi.
Its very normal to have differences in opinions but its highly abnormal to see someone abnormal flexing his abnormal baaaajus (those with damm) here on an e-forum. And when one says something like that, he offends. It's absolutely normal to react once offended. And, Shweta's reaction was decent enough still.

Rest I agree with your say on internalization and I realize its high time I too practice it :p!

First thing first : you are disappointed by the matter or the topic? I highly doubt that even you understood what I desired to ask. You just concentrated fully on the topic and not at all on the subject matter.

Think again !

And I doubt you replied without even going through the things and without knowing exactly what is asked. And in case you have passed this statement after knowing what is asked then its extremely disappointing.

There are truths & there are gospels and you cant deny gospels – I tried figuring out hard, which gospel you are talking about but couldn’t !

Do you think that a woman ought to be subservient to man is a gospel or is it a truth?

For me it isn’t is a gospel and neither it’s a truth !

Again try to understand what I asked:

“I have no doubts about the fact that both these sexes are different in various aspects, viz physical strength, mental frame of mind, outlook towards things & events etc. But does this behavioral difference make women second-rated as compared to men?”

And do I need to tell you why I asked this?

And in case you don’t know then go to the villages and small towns & cities (though such things very much exist in metros & big cities too) where many a men regard their sister, mother and any other woman of the family as a servant which God has given him to work for him as per his directions. A wife is a pleasure deriving article - use & throw on daily basis.

Woman are ought to be used – aren’t you aware of this mentality?

Haven’t you seen people hitting even their mothers ?

You have no idea that a girl child is many times killed in the womb or is brought up as a secondary human being as compared to the boy child?

You think that marital rape is non-existent and sexual harassment of women is a thing of the past? And what to talk of eve-teasing, rape, forced prostitution, mental assault etc.

Do you believe that no female is pestered for dowry? Physical, emotional & economic abuses, verbal violence, treats, stalking & wife beating never happens?

Do you mean to say that these all things are either truth or gospels and nothing can/should be done to help the victims?

In case you think that these are the truths which a woman has to accept then I am again sorry to see one more addition to women’s baggage of sufferings gifted to them by men around !

I don’t say men are bad or women are good and neither I advocated for some battle. I said that there seems to be some battle going on when every time a man regards a woman as a woman and not as just another human being ! This was what I meant by the title of the thread – and you and some other people all are continuously taking it wrong & deriving your own meanings - How can I help it!

And you must also like to talk about the personal comments I made, then just read between the lines what for I made such comments – just to bring to surface hidden faces of people. Will you appreciate lines like : ‘Aur haan ek bar aur ye saare kaam wo hain jinmain na to adhik mansik aur na hi adhik sharirik shakti ki jarurat padti, isiliye inka jimma ladies ko diya jata hain’ & ‘aap ne aaurto ke kaam ginane ke baad nue soch rhi hai gna bada tir mar diya. aadmi bhhi bhoot kam karte kher hum te ginwate kyo ki ya aadat te aaurto ki hi hoti hai’?

I showed it on the spot what people have to say about women & how much they respect & care for women !

And you were talking about some right – I have no right to tell anyone to ignore the thread – well, did I do that? Read it again : “And in case u see no use, you may kindly ignore the thread outright.”

Now see, it was a request to please atleast let me do the talking in case if you are uncomfortable with the talks going on ! - what was wrong with it?

And yes, did I tried changing anyone’s opinion ? Did I say from tomorrow respect all ladies no matter what ! Excuse me please !

What we all do here by writing can you tell me? I guess we share our views, put our points, talk over things and we can change our perceptions if we feel like doing so. Aur karne hi kya aate hai hum yaha?

To sum it up:

You call it not even a discussion, I call it more than that if you can let us do that ! You cant forcefully out forth views like there is nothing that needs to be discussed when such serious issues are at the helm !

Kindly don’t try to take things the way you like and jump on conclusions. :)

Thanks sumit..

your derafting is so impressive...
I feel here epsecially in this post.. The topic of the post seems very aggessive "Battle........" obously, people get aggression.
Second, Differences betweem genders created by god or nature.

Ya you say "She provided one option" and "There is nothing wrong in helping people know the option(s) they never seem to consider" Are you confident about her intension? In my view it seems insulting.

Then you could have asked me about intentions instead of taking it as insulting if u were so confused !

That would have been easy & viable.

Anyways, hope you got it !

And in case you want to seek any other clarification, you can directly ask me - may be I can answer what 'I' meant better than Sumit!! How would he know what I thought while writing :o

I can understand,
Initially,I ignored ur argument. I did just reply to him because he was trying to justify.
I dont need any clarification. carry on...

I seem to be a late entrant in this discussion, if discussion it can be called, and i admit in the very begining that i could not go through all the posts of this long thread. The very topic of the thread is suggestive of a battle and that too of a kind which is quiet popular here on this forum.

But, like it or not, this battle is a reality. And this reality is as old as history itself is. But calling it battle leaves a bitter taste. We can call it an opposition which is going on for a very long time between two kinds of organisms of the same species. Its so surprising that the individuals who are meant by the nature to complement each other are involved in some sort of power struggle. But that's the result of human nature combined with civilzation. Man wants to own everything and establish his supremacy. It is manifested in many spheres and the human history is a long narrative of successive battles fought by man for riches, power and supremacy. Man has endeavoured and become successful too in taming everything that came in his way. Women too, being physically weak, were made subservient and this status was then turned into so called "gospel" ( a word being used in this thread too much) by giving it an appearance of tradition, custom, moral duty or whatever it may be called.

Shweta's resentment towards this kind of attitude present in our society is justified. And yes irrespective of all the advancements that we talk of there still is a very large section of people who harbour that kind of attitude. But thankfully world is changing, attitudes are changing and today's men have a broader outlook which does not have place for the constraining gender biases. It is evident from some of the posts here such as by Col Malik and Anil. I especially appreciate Col Malik's views.

And lastly a word about this so called "battle" from myself...there are differences between the two sexes and both have their own strengths. Being biased towards any of them and acting on those biases results in disciminations which are not healthy for proper functioning of the society. Such discriminations result in stunting the growth of that section against which we are prejudiced. So for betterment of half of the world (read women) it is essential to have a society free from gender biases.
