I think members are harassing the creator of this thread. Come on guys! Lets behave like the grown ups that we are.
I think Mr. Patel has a legitimate point. No one should be offended. I had an American-Indian friend back in college. He had similar issues. I realized that American-born/raised Indians dont have much idea of India's cultural and demographic factors.
I have traveled extensively in the Haryana-Punjab region. My verdict is that people in either state are barely distinguishable. But, people from Haryana-Punjab living in the west seem to have children with better physical features. The reason for that may lie in the difference between diet, air and water that people consume in India and the west.
Here in the west most people dont even consume tap-water which must pass drinking water standards of the local municipality before it reaches people's home. They travel in airconditioned cars and live in airconditioned houses. Compare that to the khacha-khach packed DTC and Roadways.
There are a lot of factors that Mr. Patel may not be aware of that could lead to the differences between the physical appearance of Jats and Sikhs. Mr. Patel may not have seen as many Jats living in the United States as he has seen Sikhs. I live in this region and can attest to the fact that the Valley-area is packed with Sikhs. My brother and a close friend living in San Diego are probably the only Jats that I know who live closest to me.
There is a legislation currently waiting (or may have even passed) to be passed in the California Legislature that would require sensitivity training for Law Enforcement officers on issues related to Sikhs and Sikhism. It would allow Sikhs to carry their Kirpans in public. Now compare that to allowing Tau Subbey to carry his dogga in Public. The first person that Arnold went to ask for support before running for Governor in California was an extremely rich and influential Sikh farmer/entrepreneur living in the Fresno-Madera region. Sikhs are an extremely powerful lobby group in California due to their numbers.
BTW: When you are passing the Los Angeles area you can even tune into a Punjabi station at AM 1200. Sardaraan ne soch ke frequency tohi lagge se!
