Movie's Reviews

My name is Khan
Hope controversies/ publicity gimmicks will save the movie, unless people start identifying with the statement-"My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist".....
Can give the movie some credit for "simple(ton)" humor.....otherwise......2.0/5.0.....

I would only say that it is better than Kabhi Alvida na Kehna, which is not saying much ;)

PS: Either all Indian critics are idiots or they were handsomely paid....

Shutter Island- 3.5/4.00

Martin Scorsese movie, with his regular main actor from past few films- Leonardo De Caprio........interesting plot with "mind game", but drags at places........does have a conclusion (or may be, it is just my version......:D....)....

Agreed!!!.....the anti-climax was when Ryan does a "surprise" to Alex at her doorstep......and...........thuddddd!!!....:)

Exactly.. and bigger thudddd was when Alex tells Ryan his importance in her life. :) wow, she was a 'grown-up'.
Poor Ryan and his 'knapsack'. :D

"The Other Man" (2008)

The Other Man (2008) - 2/5

I was actually quite looking forward to this movie when I had grabbed it recently at the DVD library… especially after taking in all the amazing star cast/superb actors in there:
You have the awesome (Jedi- can one ever see him differently?) Liam Neeson and the (used to be hot property) Antonio Banderas; (and also Laura Linney from "Mystic River", "The Truman Show" fame who plays …well, a ‘love interest’)
.....and what do you get when you combine two Oscar nominees, one Golden Globe nominee, and the director (Richard Eyre of the brilliant "Notes on a Scandal")??? A big let down!!!....it was a lifeless and poorly-crafted thriller...(well, a thriller in name only, since unfortunately there are no thrills and no compelling story to speak of actually). :(

"The Other Man" for me was not merely disappointing; it was rather a travesty of sorts, because here one could essentially get to watch three great actors and one great director together be able to flounder in a film that is simply bad in just about every aspect (do some things really must look so good on the script level???)…

In fact even when the movie unveils its two big twists, it does so with a fizzle rather than a bang—an arduous, painful fizzle.

Hurt Locker.......awesome movie, rightfully deserves Oscars. Man finds succor in war than traversing the cereal isle of grocery store.

Road, Movie!

Road, Movie: 3.5/5

I watched another of these new very unconventional style movies (they have started to become an awesome trend, haven't they?) which goes by the name of “Road, Movie”…Now btw, traditionally a ‘road film’ is a film genre in which the film's plot takes place during a journey. It usually a kind of a narration in which the hero changes, grows or improves over the course of the story. This movie too I guess would fall under very such 'genre category'…

This movie is by the (awesome) Dev Benegal who also gave us that other seminal film, (English August which had Rahul Bose)
The Director apparently returned here after almost a decade with this fare, a film that unravels for us the thirsty, feisty and forlorn India from the point of view of the main protagonist (Abhay Deol) who is shown as a young guy who has a desire to connect with an unfamiliar world as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery…

It gets a strict 3.5 only, because one would have to concede that the film isn't kind of engaging at certain portions…is almost western-movies style detached at times and can also be called a bit low on having any authentic full blown story to back it up all the way. But having said that; the characters are rich and the canvas is colorful …the screenplay crackles with crisp humor so many times... and the background score is awesome!
Plus if you look at it as a simple short story…of a quest, a journey and something that easily swings between being sometimes realistic and sometimes surreal (Bizzare!); you shall do fine! Don't go looking for run-of-the-mill cinema and you will enjoy it… (movies like dev D, Gulaal etc. are here to stay I think!)…

The film works slowly and sensuously, drawing you into its folksy tale through a barren Kutch/Thar landscape dotted with mean cops and marauding gangsters/(drinking water) mafia that rules these parched deserts. In between, there is a bit of stolen romance too (and the newcomer Tannishtha Chatterjee comes across as the unconventional love interest in the form of a sultry banjaran girl)
In short, it’s a film that celebrates the power of cinema (think open air style sitting, bare white screen canvases on wooden poles/stilts, and the noisy movie projectors!), the power of our indigenous people and the art of plain and simple survival….

Abhay Deol, once again proves here that he is sort of hell bent on travelling the less-travelled road, (while the veteran Satish Kaushik breathes life and soul into the character of the mela-hunting man from nowhere)!...

Watch it! :)

ROAD was one of the shittiest ever movie I saw in recent times. Abhay Deol disappointed a big time. The story is so confusing moreover it comes to an end abruptly just like Agyaat from RGV. You will be banging your heads against wall after watching it. Wastage of time and money.

...Oh, forgot; :cool: one more thing - the songs in "Road, Movie" are awesome too;
The "Kesariya Balam (padharo mhaare desh)" is especially great!... :p;):o

Watched Hurtlocker yesterday. Its one awesome movie based on a bomb defusing squad who's operating in Iraq after war. It's quite different from usual war movies and it's deep touching and intense movie. A class apart, wonderfully directed ! I give it 4.5/5 !

A crisp review: http://passionforcinema.com/the-hurt-locker/

This movie focus on U.S fatalities in Iraq...How brutal Iraqi's are..But no one look at the other side..The brutality of U.S military in Iraq..Blackwater opened fire on civilians ..Now there is leaked US military video..

Movie on indiscriminate slaying by US forces in Iraq would be more deep touching than this movie.
