Corruption or riots, I dont think there's any difference between the Congress and BJP. Just the scale varies and that too because one got more time in office than the other.

How will Modi explain his minister’s role in the riots?

http://www.firstpost.com/politics/h...source=editorpick&utm_medium=article_politics

What can be said of civil society in Gujarat when its minister for women development and child welfare is convicted of rioting against women and children?
On Wednesday, for the first time in India, a sitting MLA was found to have instigated violence in the worst of the 2002 incidents. Twelve people testified to minister Maya Kodnani assisting and egging on the rioters in the Ahmedabad suburb of Naroda Patiya. A total of 96 Muslims were killed that night, 34 children including a newborn, 32 women and 30 men. Kodnani supplied the killers with kerosene and swords, according to testimony.
Judge Jyotsna Yagnik found 32 people guilty for the massacre. The fearsome Babu “Bajrangi”, the man accused of forcibly undoing marriages of Hindu girls to Muslim boys, has also been convicted in the case.
Modi will have a hard time explaining away his minister’s involvement. PTI

Kodnani, a Sindhi whose family migrated at Partition, was an MLA when she participated in the violence. Despite the grave allegations against her, Kodnani was made minister by Modi later. When she was charged-sheeted by an independent agency, she was dropped as minister but retained her seat as MLA. She is a qualified doctor, a gynaecologist, showing that higher education is no barrier to bigotry.

Though she denied being present at Naroda Patiya when the killings happened, Kodnani was proved to be there by her cellphone records. These had been gathered and submitted by an exceptional officer in the Gujarat police force. Shamefully, that officer, Rahul Sharma, from the elite Indian Police Service, is being tried by Modi’s government for misconduct. His crime was to have taken the initiative to get these phone records from the various cellphone companies and hand them over to independent investigators instead of the state. I think he did the right thing because under Modi (who was and remains the state’s home minister) investigations were so sloppy that the Supreme Court brought in an outside agency to take over. Kodnani’s conviction is because of that outside investigation team and not the work of Modi’s government.

The phone records Sharma collected showed both Kodnani and Bajrangi in areas where they claimed not to be. They also show that the then deputy home minister, Gordhan Zadhafiya, was in the police control room. He has been accused of directing the violence and ordering the police to go easy on the rioters, though he also denied being there.

Zadhafiya, who like Bajrangi is from the peasant Patel community, is today a rebel against Modi’s government. The cellphone records indicate that Narendra Modi’s office was in touch with the rioters. Officers in the CMO, as the office is called, who spoke to those now convicted of rioting include Tanmay Mehta, Sanjay Bhavsar and Anil Mukim. When I visited Modi’s office a couple of years ago I remember Bhavsar being there and also Mukim. The records also indicate that phone conversations happened from the chief minister’s residence.

Now that a judge has accepted the validity of this record (and when the detailed judgment is out we will know to what extent she has) the other connections it has hinted at will come into focus. Narendra Modi speaks often about the inability of the Congress to protect India’s citizens from terrorist violence, perhaps rightly. It is not easily that he will be able to explain away the truth that his own minister was responsible for the killing of Gujaratis. Modi’s record at protecting his citizens has been poor. Another of his deputy home ministers, Amit Shah, is today barred from entering Gujarat because of the charges he faces. Modi’s anti-terrorism force chief, DG Vanzara is in jail for murder, also the result of an independent investigation.

It is astonishing, given these failures, that Modi continues to keep the portfolio of the home ministry.

He has publicly attacked Teesta Setalvad, the Gujarati activist whose persistence has been crucial in bringing about all these convictions. But it is true that Gujaratis like me, who are still ashamed for our conduct of 10 years ago, are today proud of her and what she has achieved.

fyi: "congress" word with most of negative associations just like they are doing in case of kanda; "kanda, a minister in haryana government"

how come people are missing this information in entire discussion!!!!

Yes, Very true. On the scale of 10, I will give 5 to BJP and 10 to congress. Present congress is full fledged university of communalism and corruption while BJP is just graduated from that university, Since we don't have any option; so, people will be forced to choose BJP. This is the very reason why I didn't like IAC's decision to go political; (making political party is big job and not an overnight job; hope they will do years of job to give a clean option in coming years). First time, middle class got a voice outside political circles and had a potential to put a required checks and balances to political class.

About Modi's being a PM candidate, he has the best CV among all present and future probable national leaders, That's why should be given a chance. At-least, after 2002, he is doing total no-nonsense politics in Gujarat.

What do you want to say here? Is media impartial in not calling him a "congress" minister? Identity of a politician is always the present party and/or government it belongs. I don't have iota of doubt that media specially English speaking electronic media is pro-congress. I rest my case here.

Isn't Kanda an independent? I too initially thought he was in the ruling party, but I think it was Anil Sangwan who pointed this fact out in the Kanda thread.

Responsibility lies with government only. Lets modify it a bit: "a minister in congress government". It is like saying Raja did the scam and congress has nothing to do with 2G. Anyway, these are my views. Different people, different views. That's it :) :)

bhai parveen... aise hi india ke neta hain... or aise hi public hai... kal inke netao ne, smt shuma swaraj dwara bole gaye do words pe discussion suru kar diya tha (i.e. mota maal)... or jitni baat "mote maal" pe ki agar utni "coal scam"(main issue) pe kar lete to kya pata BJP thodi shant ho ke... parliament aa jati...

or aaj inhone "kanda" pe research kar di... jabki mugjhe lagta hai ki "kanda" ka example aapne diya tha ye batane ke liye ki vo abhi haryana govt ka minister hai... jo ki bilkul sacchi baat hai, or koi ise nakar nahi sakta...

or "congress" aapne mention kiya tha kisi or prani ke liye... jo ki pata nahi kisi ne padha bhi hai ki nahi... ulta ek bekar ke baat ko discuss karne mai lage huae hain ki "kanda koun si party ka hai"... aare kisi bhi party ka ho bhai... galat kiya hai to saja to bhugte ga hi... kyon muh mai thook bilo ruhe ho or keyboard ki keys ghisa ruhe ho...

vicharo ki aisi chowmin to koi bahot badhiya or confused chef hi bana sakta hai... aap samajh hi guye hoge ki mai kisi baat kar ruha hu... kyon time kharab kar ruhe ho...

FYI: In Godra's incident, Haji Balal, Municipal councilor, who believed to order the Mob was a congress councilor. But Media always suppresses "congress" word with most of negative associations just like they are doing in case of Kanda; "Kanda, a Minister in Haryana government"

How come people are missing this information in entire discussion!!!!

Appreciate if no-body quotes me on issue of 2002; I just tried to put a missing information of the discussion

Of course that doesn't absolve him of his crimes, but its a little unfair to ask media to call him a congress minister, when technically he isn't. But again, biasness of media is probably off topic for this thread.

Yes, good CV if not for 2002. And that I hope will be it.

Jo bhi samjho sir ji. BJP supporters kehte hain Congress ne media kharid rakhi hai. Baat sirf itni hai ki jiski laathi uski bhains. Jo power mein hota hai..media or corporates ko khareedne ki koshish to karta hi hai...Kya BJP aisa na karti? Sanjeev ji to party worker hain, jyada bata sakte hain.

Perhaps this is from the same interview. Perhaps he was trying to inject some humor into a boring interview.

Narendra Modi under fire for attributing malnutrition in Gujarat to 'beauty conscious' young girls

New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is under fire for attributing the high rate of malnutrition in his state to "beauty conscious" young girls watching their weight.

US daily the Wall Street Journal has quoted Mr Modi as explaining the challenge of malnutrition in Gujarat thus, "Gujarat is by and large a vegetarian state. And secondly, Gujarat is also a middle-class state. The middle-class is more beauty conscious than health conscious - that is a challenge. If a mother tells her daughter to have milk, they'll have a fight. She'll tell her mother, 'I won't drink milk. I'll get fat'."

The context of the question reportedly was that according to latest government data available, about half of Gujarat's children under five were short for their age or had stunted growth. Mr Modi's answer has many flummoxed and angry; they point out that five-year-old girls anywhere are scarcely known to be figure-conscious.

Arjun Modhwadia, who heads the Congress' Gujarat unit, has lashed out at the Chief Minister saying, "This is not just a joke but is an insult to all women."

Social networking site Twitter, which is Mr Modi's preferred choice for communicating his views, is abuzz with criticism of the Gujarat CM's remark. There is sarcasm when Farzana Versey tweets, "I think we can blame Venezuela for Modi's logic abt malnutrition in girls under five to 'fashion consciousness' (sic)."

And dismay too. "Shocking to see what namo said @ reasons of malnutrition. Not expected from him who usually understands things so well. Pathetic (sic)," tweeted Kashyap Shah
In the same interview Mr Modi also promises to fix the problem soon, but most stopped reading beyond his words on figure-conscious young girls.

jo baat boli hai ye hai to sach hi... ye to roz ka scene to khud humare ghar ka(delhi)... or gujarat kya har jagah ka yahi haal hai... specially cities mai...

or ye to media ki aadat hai ki modi bolta kuch or hai or usko ghuma fira ke dikhate kuch or hain... jab maine title dekha to mugjhe bhi ajeeb sa laga tha... but jab modi ka quote dekha to vo bilkul hi alag tha... ab agar kisi ko is news ke title ke content mai kuch farak najar nahi aa ruha ho to... isme koi kuch nahi kar sakta... poorani kahawat hai "veham ka koi eelaj nahi hota"

ye news to media walo ki vikrit mansikta ka bahot badhiya example hai...
