Railway Budget and General Budget 2014-15

Today the first Railway budget of new NDA Government has been presented and tomorrow the General Budget would be presented in the parliament. After its presentation, the same will be taken up for discussion on this forum.

Does the Railway budget satisfy the highly aroused expectations of the people of India or not ! If not, what is missing in it.

If yes, how the promises made in the budget without making adequate fund allocation to meet the targeted declaration, would be met. Does it not reflect jugglery of words.

Moreover, your views on the issue of entry of FDI and public-private participation in running the Indian Railways, maintenance of Railway Stations etc. are solicited.

Railways Budget is fair enough. FDI And PPP is only way to get done things without making burden on common man.

Safety, Security, Food Quality and cleaning could be done within couple of months.

I liked the idea of not announcing new schemes before prior ones are implemented but not the idea of PPP. Railways should remain public and only public and government should look out for ways to run it more efficiently keeping costs low.

Nothing wrong if Private parties maintain platforms and run business there. Nothing wrong if one compartment in long distance train is given to someone to run a quality restaurant. Cleaning of trains can be outsources and I find nothing wrong with that. Land on both side of railway tracks can be given to nearby farmers for forestation. Names of trains can be auctioned and I am sure there will be many takers. I am sure Tata and Amabani will pay heavy amounts for the names "Tata and Ambani Express"

If these four points really materialise into reality, it would be a great achievement.

Especially the demand of 'Safety and Security' of passengers and the Railways is long overdue to be met by the concerned authorities .

Exactly cleaniness and food quality are the pain areas, if we privatize them surely things will be much better.
Entry of private players in good transportation should also be allowed.
Yeah instead of naming trains simply, no harm in auctioning, anything which get them revenue to improve and expand railway services should be allowed.
PS: Intrest of the common man should not be compromised at any cost

Right.

Food, cleaning, security even Safety department can be done by private companies. Big cities Station Infrastructure could be done by PPP for Shopping malls, Hotel, shops.

More than the bullet trains, govt. should focus on improving and upgrading the infrastructure for the present trains and train network.

The mantra given by the new govt. seems appealing - Service, safety and speed. However, it should be in the same order, service and safety before speed. Almost all the previous govt.s have indulged in populist measures without caring for the service or safety leave aside speed. Only time will tell how far the present govt. is able to streamline,improve and upgrade the fourth largest railway network in the world.

To me railways budget has strong foundation points. Results will surely be seen in future. With hygiene food, more security and clean platforms will surely be welcomed by all Indian. FDI will surely play a good role for funding.

This shows clear picture of NDA vision, and I too think this is good for current situation.

railway ek social sector hi hona chahiye jo long distance k liye (.for coal and heavy goods and passangers ).with minimum fair (jo desh ka garib s garib afford kar sake )

Kul Milakar acha Budget diya hai govt. ne .... Relief for middle class which is mainly salaried by new tax slab and increase in 80 C and jaruri cheezo ke rates kam kar diye like edible oil, electronics items etc. Faltu ki cheeze like tobacco ke rates mehenge kar diye.... Country ki current economic condition dekhte hue isse jyada balanced budget nhi ho sakta tha... baki har kisi ko to khush ni kiya ja sakta hai, rone wale to abi bhi royenge....

Brother be cool. Budget congress se accha nhi hai to bura bhi nahi. Even There are few new projects and Planing. Ab dekho kitna Implement hota hai.

Budget is just datasheet of upcoming expensive.

Agree. There is only 500 crore for Inflation relief. 2-3 Din ke allu nhi ayege 120 crore logo ke liye 500 cror main.


Overall it's fine. Good for upper middle class.

Women safety ke liye jyada hota to aur acha hota no doubt, whats wrong with 200 crores for statue of unity? Kal ko ban jayega, tourism se recover ho jayenge. Mayawati/Ghandhi parivar aala ki dhalla park me hathi and har chorahe par ghandi ki murti laane se to better hai bhai.

Sorry but statue project cost is around 2500 crore. It would be nearly twice the Liberty Statue.

The times are different hence the costs of the two cannot be compared properly.

To preserve heritage and culture large sums are spent over the globe by the Governments. Sardar Patel , the Deputy Prime Minister of india and a Freedom fighter of note, made merger of 562 native states into India possible which seemed impossible at that point of history. If this statute of Unity reminds the generations to come forges sense of belongingness to the basic values of Indian Freedom Movement and leads to greater sense of unity and harmony among the people and also develops as a Tourism destination the costs seems not too high !
