Deshwal
Deshwal
(Deswal, Deswal, Deswali, Desali, Desiwal, Deshvar, Deshwar, Dasval)
Location : Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana
Country : India
Deswal (देसवाल) Deshwal (देशवाळ)[1] Deswal (देसवाल) Deswali (देसवाली)[2] Desali (देसाली)[3][4] Desiwal (देसीवाल)[5] Deshvar (देशवार) Deshwar (देशवार)[6] Dasval (दसवाल)[7] is a gotra of Jats found in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana in India. This gotra originated from Haryana and were known as Deswali due to their permanent settlement there. [8] They were supporters of Chauhan Confederacy.
Origin
- Deswal Gotra gets name after King named Desa son of Kod Khokhar. [9]
History
Ram Swarup Joon[10] writes that....Deshwal gotra is even smaller than the Dalal gotra and people belonging to this gotra are found scattered all over Haryana. They have a few villages in Bhatinda and some in Bahawalpur State and Rohtak. The genealogical tables prepared by the bards of these four gotras are incorrect because they called them the descendants of Dhanna, when gotras like "Mann and Sihag existed long before Dhanna Rao.
The History Of Bamrolia Jats mentions the presence of Deshwal Gotra Jats around Agra/ Mathura region in the 11th century and Origin of Gangoli Village in Distt Jind/ Sangroor (before Haryana came into existence in 1966, It was part of Distt. Sangroor) is believed to be 850 years old. There is a mention of Distt Record at Sangroor in this regard. [11]
The dynasty of Bamrolia belongs to the Deswali clan of Jats and traces its descent from Jai Singh, who acquired territories near Bairat, south of Alwar. Loyal to Emperor Anang Rao Puar, he received the hereditary title of Rana in ca 1068, together with the usual Royal insignia of a parasol and chamra or yak-tail. A century later, his descendent Rana Palun Singh, transferred his allegiance to Prithvi Raj Chauhan, and was slain beside him in 1175. Rana Birhan Pal, son of Palun, settled at Bamroli, near Agra in 1195. It is from this place that the family derives their name. His descendants ruled there until driven out by the Mughal Governor of Agra in 1367. Rana Ratan Pal, eighth in descent from Birhan Pal, joined the service of the Tuar ruler at Gwalior. His son supported Raja Barsingh Dev of Gwalior, helping him to win his independence from their Muslim overlords in 1375. He married a Jat lady and later settled at Baghthurra, near Gohad. [12]
This gotra is even smaller than the Dalal gotra and people belonging to this gotra are found scattered all over Haryana. The genealogical tables prepared by the bards of these four gotras are incorrect because they called them the descendants of Dhanna Jat, when gotras like Mann and Sihag existed long before Dhanna Rao.
According to the history narrated by Bhats, the Deswals are considered to be the descendents of Prithvi Raj Chauhan. The Indian history, however, does not acknowledge the fact that Maharaja Prithvi Raj Chauhan was a Jat. This needs an intensive research. Many Jat clans find their origins from Chauhans. It is most probable that Chauhans were a short of federation of clans which included Jat clans along with other warrior clans.
H.A. Rose [13] writes that The Deswal sections are : — Goriya, Chauhan and Kanakwal — all Raput clans. In History some people assume them a branch of Ahir clan also.
The place of Origin of the Deshwal/Deswal Gotra is believed to be Village Ladhaut/ Ladhot, also Known as Ladhaut Bhayapur. It is believed to be one of the ancient villages in the region. It is located in District Rohtak, about 7 Km from Sukhpura Chowk Rohtak and 10 km from Purani Anaj Mandi Rohtak. The village is surrounded by Kiloi, Dhamad, Makrauli Khurd, Makrauli Kalan, Bohar and Bhalauth. [14]
H A Rose writes that Deswal (देसवाल), 'men of the country,' a Jat tribe, sprung from the same stock as the Dalal. They are most numerous in Rohtak, Gurgaon, and Karnal. In Mewar and Ajmer, Musalman Raputs are called Deswal, and are hardly recognised as Rajputs. [15]
