Kausarnag lake

Kausar Nag (कौसरनाग) is a high-altitude oligotrophic lake in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It gets name from Nagavanshi King of the same name Kausar Naga (कौसरनाग).

Kausarnag lake is located at an elevation of 3,962.4 metres (13,000 ft) above sea level.[1] Kausar Nag is located in the Pir Panjal mountain range in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The lake is roughly 3 km long and .75 km at the widest point.[2]

It is believed that Manu's boat that carried the Vedas and the Saptarishi was stuck near this Lake after the Great flood.[3]

History

Nestled in the lap of Pir Panjal peaks on three sides, this snow fed lake in Kulgam, the source of River Veshav, is situated at about 4000 ft above sea level. Aharbal to Kousarnag, via Kungwattan and Mahinag is a major trek route, spanning 3 days. Once at the lake, trekkers are met with the breathtaking views of striking hues of blue against the rugged terrain. Its tranquil, crystal clear water and the serene summits above make for the perfect nature spot to reinvigorate the senses.[4]

कौसरनाग

नागवंश में कौसरनाग नाम के राजा थे। कौसरनाग नाम से जम्मू-कश्मीर के कुलगाम जिले के पीर पंजाल पर्वतश्रेणी में ऊंचाई पर स्थित एक झील है। यह झील लगभग 3 किमी लम्बी है। इसकी अधिकतम चैड़ाई लगभग 1 किमी है।[5]
