My dear worthy members for quite some time i wanted to discuss this topic but some how or other could not do so.I am really surprised and anguished to see our younger generation getting carried away with this one word..LIBERTY.I will define liberty first so that before members start pouring their LIBERATED replies, they can understand the meaning of this term fist:

LIBERTY DEFINED:"Freedom from captivity etc,Right or power to do as one pleases,RIGHT OR PRIVILEGE GRANTED BY AUTHORITY or SOCIETY,free from worries,Behave in an unduly familiar manner,License to do a particular thing and freedom from rigid social conventions which are supposedly against the human dignity."

Let us discuss the issue within the strict parameters of above definition.

Today's new generation has partly misunderstood this word and thus is playing havoc with their lives. They have taken it as:

1] Not to listen to the elders.
2] Do what one pleases.
3] Like it or lump it attitude.
4] Do things in public glare[which one does in privacy] with impunity.
5] Argue without experience.
6] Might is right attitude.
7] Shamelessness in attitudes.
8] Not listen to even parents.
9] What the hack attitude.
10] Only rights..no duties.
11] Get lost line.

Kindly discuss!

Sir,
More to add....
1. I don't give a S*H*I*T about what others say....i'll live my life in my own way.
2. Who the hell are YOU(everyone)?

The major reason is the forced modernisation and lack of time to keep an eye on children on Parents side. Nowadays most couples are earning and hence dont spend QUALITY time with their kids that lead them to a careless n shameless ATTITUDE and nuclear family concept is A BIGGER culprit. In old days we had joint and big families with our elders like Dada-Dadi/Chacha-chachi/Tau-Taayi and even elder cousins and due to the respect we used to be IN LIMITS when it came to BEHAVE/SPEAK in a gathering and nowadays we hardly come along with these realtions that played a VITAL ROLE in making us a GOOD PERSON.

This so called young generation needs to keep in mind that one doesn't need to be VULGAR to be MODERN. Here i'll tell you a real life incident....Maine ek Bhai-Bhabhi banaye huay hain aur mai unki family se kaafi close hoon. Ek din ek Hip-Hop songs ki CD burn karney ke liye maine apney bhateejey(studying in 10th) ko di, achanak ek song ka music shuru hua to bhai ki beti bhagtey0bhagtey aayi aur gaana band kar diya....Maine poocha Beta kya ua...woh boli Bua aap ye gaana mat suno....this song's Title is "Sutta" maine kaha ki kyu? mai kyu nhai sunu? Wo boli iss mein saari gandi-gandi gaaliyan hain....and is full with HELL LOTTA SLANGS....Aap bilkul nahi sunn paogey????:(:o:mad: I wonder if i cant listen to that song then WHY THIS GENERATION find it so SOOTHING TO EARS aur unki upbringing mein itna STRONG kya hai ki bachey sunn saktey hain par HUM NAHI....ye HAMAREY PARENTS ke diye huay achchey sanskaar hain ki HAMARI AANKHON MEIN AB TAK SHARAM BAAKI HAI....That what KEEPS MY HEAD HIGH WITH PRIDE not modernism. Dev Sir....aankhon ki SHARAM MARR GAYI HAI AUR KUCH NAHI HAI:confused::eek:

Dahiya sahab,

The 11 things you listed could be summed up in one line........

A horny teenager with an attitude problem!!!! Please donot equate the concept of liberty with it. Its like comparing Wall Street Journal with Filmfare magazine - I hope you get my drift.

moreover generalisation is a bad thing. it's a setback to individuality of thoughts. n dis case is extremely a sum up of few misguided n misinformed teens nt youth

Liberty ke naam pe......

dear you have written " The Problem " rightly . As we know the problem, now we have to find the answer/illage to stop this rot spreading among our youth. I think we have to make some of our young girls and boys understand the problem first and then request them to take the responsibility to spread the awareness against these wrong attitudes of the youth who are getting into the western trap in the name of modern view and liberty, to do what they feel like saying it is their life, forgetting that this life is given by their parents, who are feeling helpless. This is because young boys and girls gets influenced by their freinds more than their parents or elders. Lets start before many of our youths lose their values or make thier life worthless. Lets also start a campaign to stop the same gotr marriage in the name of Love, before the Jat community gets wiped out just like Parsis.

Actually the basic problem is that they firmly believe they are absolutely right & cant even think about 'thinking over or analysing' any possibilty of their being wrong ! They just know they are right & thats final for them ! They can assign any tag to the things they like doing to prove that they arent at fault.

I catch your drift. Its all part of growing up.

Times have changed, Access to any kind of information is so easy.

Lets not ride the High Horse of Morality.

We cannot go back to old times now, Its a new age.

Rather than talking down at them, We should try to understand them.

How can 1 in a million case wipe out a whole community? By that logic - most South Indians, Muslims should have been extinct by now - because I personally know lot of cases in these communities where people have married their first cousins.

Who wants to snub the JAWAANI-DEEWANI? Not me...mot many more here....Point being made out here is different......LIFE CAN BE ENJOYED EVEN WHILE FOLLOWING THE NORMS OF DECENCY......Yes it can be...rather it will be more enjoyable.Problem is...Responsibility towards being sensible is not their cake but that false enjoyment is........WHO WILL DO THE DUTIES OF A GOOD CITIZEN THEN?

Dev Bhai Sahib,

This is part of growing up. As long as they are not commiting crime or being violent or breaking the law, Whats the problem.

Why do we want to clone everyone into goody two shoes.

Dil maar maar kay jiyo, no wonder India is a repressed country.

One can be a good citizen even after all that and we are assuming that they are not good citizens.

Deepak

The bottom line is we want to control.

Parents are at fault. We try to control everything about our child and the they rebel.

If we treat and respect them like individuals maybe this wont happen so much.

Of course there are bad apples, but we are not discussing about them.

well said. on children controlling i believe "giv them ur lov, bt nvr ur thoughts".

let there b sum individuality. u produce kids tht dsnt mean tht they shud fulfill all ur wishes killing their own aspirations...

I feel the control factor in middle-class parents comes from the fact that they grew up during a time when there were limited opportunities, a real fight for survival and a very closed society - there were no second chances. During their time everybody was in this fight for survival - everybody was trying to protect what was dear to them from everybody else. The hangover from that era still exists - and will continue to exist for the next few generations - because the way our country is - very poor and unequal and and economically skewed - this is the modern culture ! - not Taj Mahal. But there is a critical difference now - If somebody tried hard enough they can be successful - the opportunity exists.
If parents keep trying to control their kids well into their 20's then that will not work because in a lot of cases, the kid has more information at hand about the real world then the parents - and they are totally out of sync. What used to work 25 years ago - does'nt anymore.
I think parents need to guide the kids the best they can - once they are educated - just let go.

Point well taken...Makes lots of sense really.
