Hardwork includes physical efforts only or its beyond that

Dear friends,

We all know that everybody is working hard to get the best rewards commensurately as regarding efforts, abilities, knowledge, etc. etc......right?

Today, while conversating with some person in chaupal i noticed that the hardwork is only concerned with the labour efforts. Is it only confined to that area or aspect? That means, people want to say that others don't work hard.

But i feel that, even intelligence cannot be best utilised without efforts. And hard work can be taken in more broader sense apart from physical labour.

With this i mean to say that people are still having that same old perception that whenever anybody talk about the preference of hardwork, they simply relate it with the labour without brains. So ridiculous it sounds. Now as per this notion, we can say that brainy/creative people are putting less efforts b'coz efforts are counted in terms of physical work only.

What do you feel about the same???????

looking forward for worthy responses

Hardwork requires both physical and mental attention.

Hard work includes both PHYSICAL effort as ur body is getting stress by working more..and MENTAL efforts too...as doing any damn thing requires ur mental attention.

Hard work meant more work...work that's really and truly hard, not time-consuming. It's about the kind of work that requires us to push ourselves, not just punch the clock. Hard work is where our job security, our financial profit, and our future joy and happiness stand.

Sometimes we do our best efforts, but thats not enough always..we have to do whats required.
Remember if u arnt working hard somewhere someone is practising to meet the challenges and when u meet them..he/shez gonna win.

i like this quote very much..so pasting :)

"There are two kinds of people, those who do the work and those who take the credit. Try to be in the first group; there is less competition there." ---Indira Gandhi

Hi,

My view regarding Hard Work is that.....this When we say Hard Work , then it's ALL depends upon many many factors like :->

1) What kind of work one is doing ( like study, job, painting etc etc )
2) Who is doing that work..
3) Age etc etc...
4) Average level of that work

For e.g suppose if there is one student....if he is studying for 6 hours (after school) daily..then it's normal...

but if a person...who is working & also studying say 4 hours daily after his Job, side by side...& also doing all other his personal works well..then we cud say that he is working Hard ( As per my view)...

but for a student who is studying for 6 hours daily that is not a Hard Work for him, bcoz that is expected from him, & he has fully dedicated time for his studies....so that is normal..

But if the same student is very weak in studies & can't concentrate even for 2 hours in studies, But if that weak student is determined & he is studying 6 hours daily, then we cud say that He is working Hard in this case...bcoz he is studying beyond his capabilities....& trying to study a lot, by working hard for 6 hours...

However , if any other student enjoy studying a lot & he is very studious , so he cud study for 6 hours daily very easily , he need not put extra "Effort" or Hard Work to study...

So as per my view, the definition depends upon work to work, people to people...& capability of the person & nature of work etc etc....

In brief....I wud say Hard Work to that "Effort" which one person put , which is more than his capabilities....or his average performance..in any work, in any field..

Deepak

Absolutely!!.....Deepak,ur examples are also very simple and clear :)

And Tewatia Sir, u pls clarify ur perception with a little more elaboration :).....otherwise i might took it in some limited manner for what u mean by smart work and hard work.....as what i think, smart work also require hard efforts on the part of intellect, capability, skills, efficiency, etc. etc......and very true that almost everyone loves to prefer smart work rather than any dull/unattractive work :)

rest....m also exactly of the same opinions what all the dear members expressed here to make it clear to me,.....but there was one more concern behind this general talk.....that still there are some people (think themselves very smart/superior) who live with the ristricted approach and relate hard work directly with the labour efforts only (as i mentioned above).....now why the person allowed me a chance to put up such an idea here is that....either there might be some leg pulling behaviour emerging in the person's beautiful mind during our conversation or the person really live with some such notions which might be cleared now through every polite response pasted here.

and, i really felt happy and thankful for the valuable contribution of every person at this thread who helped me to express my views to that person through these indirect responses.

Well same is my opinion. Smart work is always superior to hard work but it doesn mean smart work is effortless.

Neelam ji, let me take an attempt to explain what Tewatia ji said. Smart work is the effort put with calculations, with planning and whose main criteria is efficiency.

Let me court an example to make the discussion more lucid. I got 2 friends. One was damn hard working another one always used to bluff, play and killing time roaming around university. Now, it was time for placements. After 2 months was the placement time so everyone started putting his/her 100%. The first friend was very hard working and u can see him always with books. But his style was to study and study and study. Another one had planned everything. Finish this by this time then 1 revision and then 1 mock test and again same cycle atleast 5 times. Within 2 months he revised the whole syllabus aroun 4 times and the first guy was still waiting when he will finsih for the first time. Both guys got gud companies but the smart one in day zero company and another one in 11th company. Hope i didn court a wrong example.

Gadhe se jyada hard working koi nahi hota par uske kaam ko kabhi appreciate nahi kiya jata kyuki woh hard working hai par samrt wroking nahi hai :)
Hard work can not be defeated but i appreciate smart work more than blind hard work.

Wasie hard work ke baare mein ek doha bhi hai bahut achha... goes like this

Karat karat abyaas te, jad mati hot sujaan
Rassi aavat jaat hai, sill pe parat nishaan

So, no offence to the above lines but agar hard work ke saath smart work bhi judd jaaye toh kyaa kehneeee, sone pe suhaga :)

Hi Neelam and others... lotta definitions are given here and all are correct. I dunno who was the guy who said physical wrk is only hard work but feel he/shez a dumbo.

Here, i suggest u to divert the topic a lil bit and it will good if we can discuss abt smart work.

Here, i suggest u to divert the topic a lil bit and it will good if we can discuss abt smart work.

vry nicely explained dev... u've summed up evrythin' with a perfect nd practical example. :)

dictionary.com lists effort (hard work) as the difficult exertion of unusually earnest physical and/or mental energy, applying force agnst inertia to accomplish sumthin' fruitfull :D. almost every1 has been brainwashed to accept nd pay lip service to the fallacious premise tht hard work is necessary in order to b successful... the irony is tht most ppl r programmed since childhood into believing tht hard work is the key to success. but the overwhelming evidence suggests the contrary... tht hard work has nuthin' to do with success nd can actually b counterproductive at times. if hard work is supposed to produce success, then it wud stand to reason tht everyone who works hard shud b successful. but tht is far frm the case. most ppl who work hard n'vr cum close to being successful (as explained precisely by dev abv). in fact, most hard workers hv a much higher incidence of non-success than having success... the catch is in finding the proper way of working smartly. when u find tht proper way, u r able to do less and accomplish more... so folks spice up yr. smart work with right efforts nd hv a तड़का of perfection... success for sure, is in the offing. :D;):):D

to summarize smart work i wud say... "
Working SMART is an empowered state of habitually and strategically achieving more goals, more often with minimal efforts" :)

Devender, ur explanation is very simple n clear.....but the example of donkey does not suit as that stupid animal is never in favour of doing any work.....wo to log jabardasti usse kaam lete hain :D.....so this example cannot be counted....rest all other things are fine

and special thanks to u Brahm Sir, for ur immediate and well-expressed response...."Working SMART is an empowered state of habitually and strategically achieving more goals, more often with minimal efforts"

Well, wasie woh donkey wala mera example nahi hai woh society ka hi diya hua hai. Anyway gud to participate in the discussion.

one question??

can i ask a question About SMART work........ is smart work is something like... someone work hard n do efforts to write a book.. n other comes in smart way n buy that n write his/her name on publications............

So i dont beleive only smart work in enough than hard work..... in my concern.. both need to go hand to hand.......... hard work need to go with smart work... BUT.. still no gurrantee for success........third thing also comes in Mantra of success...... DESTINY............ if someone say they dont beleive in this destiny thing.. i say so do i..... but u cant ignore it... wen it comes in real life n wen u see examples n practical part of that........

i have few examples of mixing all these THREE... may be few more things can come up......... but these 3 are important...... rest everyone have their own view........ i can come with example to prove sucess MANTRA need HARD WORK+ Smart work+ DEStiny..............

good luck.....

Ram

So i dont beleive only smart work in enough than hard work..... in my concern.. both need to go hand to hand.......... hard work need to go with smart work (i agree... but not necessarily always)... BUT.. still no gurrantee for success (if u dont achieve success then it wasn't smart work, it was only hard work, cos smart work is almost always productive nd rewarding)........third thing also comes in Mantra of success...... DESTINY............ if someone say they dont beleive in this destiny thing.. i say so do i..... but u cant ignore it (no-BUDDY can deny tht)... wen it comes in real life n wen u see examples n practical part of that........

(smart work will obviously include hard work, if required/necessary)

good luck.....

Ram

as far as i'm concerned... i n'vr advocated tht smart work does not include hard work. i do agree with ramlalji tht yes smart work nd hard work go hand in hand... however i feel tht smart work is the subjugation of hard work... it may not b true other way round. :)

... hard work is just hard work, results NO GUARANTEE :(
... smart work may or may not include hard work, results 100% GUARANTEED.

moral : smart work is almost always rewarding, hard work can be rewarding... NO GUARANTEE ! ;)

as said previously, i wud like to reiterate tht...
"Working SMART is an empowered state of habitually and strategically achieving more goals, more often with minimal efforts" ;););)

a little refinement i would like to make here.....smart work gives immediate rewards, whereas hard work pays after long-run.....and ya guarantee after any kind effort is there (now it was not discussed in context of amount of guarantee,) :)

as regarding Ramlal's opinion, Hard Work+ Smartness + Destiny....altogether decides the level of achievement of an individual....this is how a person makes a stand at any place

if anybody disagree with this then pls add-up your comments :)

H/W vs. S/W

how do you define hard work? smart work as well.

Sindhi's are smart businessmen whereas Jats are always working harder whether farming or serving as a Javan.

Who is better?

Jai Javan. Jai Kisan.

I would like to refine or rephrase what Deepak dahiya bhai has said. I would say," Stretch Your Capabilities, that can be both physical as well as mental"

It is walking a step further when you feel totally exausted

Gagan bhai, it is hard to segregate physical and mental efforts.

For example, when you go to Gym and plan to run on the trade mill for 20 minutes. After 15 minutes you feel totally exhausted and want to give up but somewhere in your mind, a command originates that orders you, motivates you to continue.

That internal command can be result of an external factor ( an older person still going on hard or a young girl in front of you is still running.. ah ah ah) or an internal motivational factor eg. you need to do it to regain your stamina, come on!

That 'extra effort' in essence is 'hard work'

Cheers!

The term hard work associates itself with devotion in whatever you.Generally hard work pays.It is continuous pursuit without callousness. If undertaken relentlessly and purposefully;there is no way that rewards will not come its way.Any thing achieved through hard work is very satisfying and self assuring.

As far as Smart work is concerned,it is more related to mind. When you work hard in any venture with utmost devotion, there are chances that some people in the same environment(who are not used to work hard as much) feel threatened and try put one down by various dubious means, there by denying the very fruits of that hard work to the subject.....is that then smartness comes into play. Here smartness means: taking stock of the situation as to who is operating at what level towards thwarting the probable good results of that hard work and take all possible discrete actions to counter that propaganda/design,so that dues of hard work get delivered rightfully. In modern times hard work and smart work generally go hand in hand because there is cut throat ism all around.

Having said that it will be pertinent to mention here that those who believe in only smart work will meet the disappointment of their life sooner than later as it is near impossible to sustain oneself without the pure ingredient of hard work....and thats why some one has rightly said, and i quote," You can fool some of the people some of the times;and you can fool some of the people most of the times; but you can not fool all the people all the times."...unquote.
