RIDDLES -- Dimag ki batti jalao

Absolutely right Neetu. Sh Sanjeev Balyan rightly stated that if you think outside of this 3x3 square… Actually this puzzle is generally being used for checking the way of thinking of a person (Broaden or narrow).

One more. .

There are some people consisting of Father, Two sons, Mother, Two daughters, One Policeman and One Thief standing on the bank of a river. Everybody has to cross the river. One raft is available. The rules for crossing the river are:
  • A maximum two persons on the raft at a time.
  • The father cannot be stay with any of the daughter without their mother’s presence.
  • The mother cannot be stay with any of the son without their father’s presence.
  • The thief cannot stay with any of the family member if the policeman is not there.
  • Only the father, mother and policeman know how to operate the raft.
There are confused. You can tell them how they can cross the river?

M done ... check this out :) and let me know whether it is correct or not .

Hmm....nice thread going on ...:)

For people interested in interview types , try finding the surfaces , edges , points of an 4 dimensional hypercube.

.

A line is 1-d hypercube.
A square is a 2-d hypercube
A cube is 3-d hypercube.

Generalise it this way.

:)

LEts get a bit more mathematical

A confused bank teller transposed the dollars and cents when he cashed a check for Ms Smith, giving her dollars instead of cents and cents instead of dollars. After buying a newspaper for 50 cents, Ms Smith noticed that she had left exactly three times as much as the original check. What was the amount of the check? (Note: 1 dollar = 100 cents.)

Write 271 as the sum of positive real numbers so as to maximize their product.

If you have $100. And your chances of winning a bet are 55% , how much would you bet each time to maximise your returns. IS there any limit.?

Re:

Sanjeev, please post the answer of this one!

nice neetu, If u think outside of this 3x3 square than many solution are availble. any way this is a very good puzzle.

try this one
A man has been waiting for his girlfriend in the park Saturday morning for awhile but the girl didn't arive. He took a look at his watch when started to wait. He left when he saw the minute hand switched places with the hour hand on his watch. How long did he wait (h:mm:ss), knowing that he waited more than 1 hours ?

not justifiable!! :(.....probability is the most confusing

is there something for beginners like me :D:D

1+2-3*4/5= ____ (i passed this stage, now you can give me the next :D)

and pls a linear method should be adopted with a difficulty level increasing after each step

bro pls give some options.. pls :D

Sanjeev, please post the answer of this one!

1 hour 50 minutes 600⁄13 seconds (i.e. he waited from 480⁄13 seconds past 11:04 to 300⁄13 seconds past 12:55).

There are other possible answers (e.g. he might have waited from shortly before 10:10 to shortly after 13:50).

I feel there can be many answers for this.

The only good thing about maths is that some times it takes an linear effort to solve the problem , means the problem is tangible.

You can easily start with assuming let the intial check amount was x dollars and y cents , with both x and y less than 100 (because y cant be > 100 , and if x is then probably the bank person cant swap x and y : a good enuf an assumption ).

I just wanted to add a mathematical flavour , so u can start with that.

Try this one : Write 271 as the sum of positive real numbers so as to maximize their product. Try and think intuitively. The idea should not be of solving this problem but start with a simpler , smaller problem and try and solve that.

Sometimes if u get the base idea , u can solve any big one.

Induction is waht mathematicains call the process.

Think like , if u have 5 to write as the sum of positive real numbers , what would the answer be !!

or u can also say if u have to write 3.

inculcate that play habit of playing with numbers , thats mathematics simplified for u ! :)

Ya devender Bhai, few answers are there
try this one very logical
Why is that if p is a prime number bigger than 3, then p2-1 is always divisible by 24 with no remainder

p2-1 = (p-1 )* (p+1).

now p is prime , so p shud be odd , hence , p-1 = even , p+1 = even , also one of p-1 , p+1 ( being consecutive even nos ) is divisible by 4.

so p2-1 is divisble by 8.

now , p being a prim e is either of form 3n +1 , or of form 3n+2 ==(modulo ) 3n-1.

so p2 = 9n2 +- 6n +- 1 ==(modulo ) 1 mod 3.

so p2-1 is divisible by 3.

now 3 and 8 are co-prime ( i guess correct terminology ! damn !! main yeh code karte krte maths bhoolta jaa raha hun :( ) , so p2-1 is divisible by 3*8= 24.

Take away from today was that i ned to study some amths again :(:(

Number theory , is so interesting !

Your solution is correct. The way in which you replied is attractive.
