correction

Don't mean to be nitpicking but to be correct, I believe it should be "i will not eat this banana because its already been eaten by someone else"
dear seema ji my version is ''i will not eat this banana because it has already been eaten by somone else.''

it is the passive version of the sentence ''i will not eat this banana because someone else has eaten it.''

the active sentence here is present perfect.

indeed you are well read and this reflects in your prose.
i would like to know more abt u.

Killing English !

.
Principal to student..." I saw u yesterday rotating near girls hostel pulling cigerette... ? "

Class teacher once said : " pick up the paper and fall in the dustbin!!!"

Once Hindi teacher said...."i'm going out of the world to America.."
"..DON'T TRY TO TALK IN FRONT OF MY BACK.."

Dont..laugh at the back benches...otherwise teeth and all will be fallen down.....

It was very hot in the afternoon when the teacher entered.. She tried to switch the fan on, but there was some problem. Then she said " why is fan not oning" (ing form of on)

Teacher in a furious mood... “write down ur name and father of ur name!!”

"shhh... quiet... the principal is revolving around college"

My manager started like this "Hi, I am Pinky, Married with two kids"

"I'll illustrate what I have in my mind" said the professor and erased the board

"will u hang that calender or else i'll HANG MYSELF"

LIBRARIAN SCOLDE ," IF U WILL TALK AGAIN , I WILL KNEEL DOWN OUTSIDE"

Chemistry HOD comes and tells us.... "My aim is to study my son and marry my daughter"

Tomorrow call
ur parents especially mother and father

"why are you looking at the monkeys outside when i am in the class?!"

Lab assistant said this when my friend wrote wrong code.. "I understand. You understand. Computer how understand??

Seing the principal passing by, the teacher told the noisy class.. "Keep quiet, the principal has passed away"

hahahahahahahaha....

sad but all this is actually true....
n the most common mistake....

" i didnt went thr.......v didnt done it "...

its a simple rule....wht does not happen does not go to the past tense....it always remains in the present tense....

easy enuff to remember.....:)

it is true that most mistakes in written english are due to dangling modifiers.
but the good thing is they make the sentences all the more hilarious.
as a communicator, i would like to thank you for providing me examples to cite in the classroom.

how to use new words with proper connotation?

for this, i think ur perception/understanding/intention matters.....for eg.
if i ask you to write a sentence by connoting word JATLAND there.....now how will write the sentence?....pls write it

though i'm also thinking abt one such sentence.....till then, others can share their statements

ye kaisa rahega

"Go around that Wooden Tree."
:rock

to some limits it can be said ok

and i thought it like.... I'm also a member of JatLand, a place to share, comprehend, learn and grow within the community alongwith a great feeling of enjoyment.

how's this one....i mean does it stand upto the mark.....or it need refinement?...or its totally different that what rinku asked about connotation?

i think it can not be said so,,,Tree as it is a wooden thing:)

But any way i have to agree:)

My thoughts

For Sachin,
"Move around that tree".
"Move" sounds/seems far better with circular motion. Moreover, a tree is always wooden unless it is a Christmas tree, which can be wooden/plastic/paper one.

For Neelam ji,
I'm also a member of JatLand; a place to share, comprehend, learn and grow within the community along with a great feeling of enjoyment.
Kindly note <semicolon> after JatLand and a <space> between along & with.

PS: Kindly confirm it from some other sources too and post here for any changes.

I won't appreciate the efforts of starting the thread as it's already been done. The most common mistake which i've observed is when people say>
I returned yesterday night.
Or
I saw you at mall yesterday evening.

Here it should be said like this-

I returned last night.
&
I saw you at mall last evening.

Hence, correct/incorrect use of words like today/ tomorrow/ yesterday is equally important and so is the use of morning/noon/afternoon/evening and night. I always correct if someone makes a mistake in spoken or written english thinking that the person shouldn't keep making mistakes:) as i've also been corrected by someone at some point of time:) So take it positively if someone corrects your mistakes.

Thanks Sunita for sharing. One more mistake i have noticed many a times infact i daily encounter once this mistake even with those who has a gud command over the language.
The mistake is in Past indefinite negative sentences many ppl use second/third form of verb which is incorrect. It should be first form of verb.

Example:
Incorrect: I ]didn't went there yesterday.
Correct: I didn't go there yesterday.

Incorrect: He didn't qualified the exam.
Correct: He didn't qualify the exam.

Also, i noticed sometimes ppl use an(article) before words which even do not start with a vowel like an bus, an house, an month etc... an shud be used with only words which start with a vowel(a,e,i,o,u).

This mistake really irritates me to a great extent. But i feel it happens just due to a slight negligence as no one bothers to point out and correct the user.

But at times i really don't feel like reciprocating if someone is speaking bad english and people tend to feel that my english ain't that good;) But i do so when there are too many mistakes to be corrected.

Wait....there's one more that people use and i really hate it(oops)

I am agree.

whereas, it should be-

I agree.

"AN" should be used with words that start with these vowel sounds( a,e,i,o,u) e.g-

An honest man....here Honest is startig with 'H' but an is used as when we speak it sounds Onest.

Right, this punctuation mark was missing and effecting the meaning of the sentence.

But, about this space between along and with....I don't feel there is any hard and fast rule for that....so please make it more clear to me :)

Also having one more doubt....

I was writing to friends about my result in the manner....

I didn't qualified 'that' (the test)

but Devender corrected me by telling it should be like....

I didn't qualify that

So, please express your opinions on the same

o-clocks and I may not
return, please grant me half day casual leave"
*
An incident of a leave letter
"I am suffering from fever, please declare one day
holiday."
*
A leave letter to the headmaster:
"As I am studying in this school I am suffering

for the day."
*
Actual letter written for application of
leave:

"affecting" not 'effecting'.
and I think you could work on improving the way you frame your sentences.....like generally we dont start any sentence with 'about,also...'

Thanks for pointing out these mistakes :)....but.....

I feel that 'affecting' is used to show the psychological/emotional change but 'effecting' is used to show the sensational change.....and still if anybody finds it wrong then please make it more elaborative

Please clear my doubts with the next highlighted mistake as I'm still not satisfied with the above response.
