Few of them:
1) There should be an exam of level of IAS/IIT-JEE to be eligible to stand in election.
2) Multiparty system should be abolished, only 2-3 parties.(No mili-juli sarkar)
3) What is the point of having President with no power. Shift-Delete the whole office or prime minister.
4) There should be a think-tank(Out of government) with people like rattan tata, narayana murthy, Azim prem ji, abdul kalam etc. to direct country towards progress.
5) Compulsion to vote. There should be a marking on voter id card or some other system making sure that everyone votes and show cause for people who don't. more voting booths like in colleges, Office campuses.
6) Debates on national television on policy and agenda prior to elections.
7) Major drive to change Out-dated Indian Constitution Laws.

Please add your suggestions, may be my ideas are pretty exuberant but as we say "Drastic times need drastic measures"

Few of them:
1) There should be an exam of level of IAS/IIT-JEE to be eligible to stand in election.
there will be lot of CHEATINGS... :) anway who will decide the exam syllabus
2) Multiparty system should be abolished, only 2-3 parties.(No mili-juli sarkar)

Assume two parties: 26+ states.. even more languages, different issues in different regions like separate state... Kaveri water, naxalite problem.. and so on...
In the end, many parties within 'these two hypothetical parties' pushing their respective agendas!!

3) What is the point of having President with no power. Shift-Delete the whole office or prime minister.
Whom we will call Mr. President then?? :p

4) There should be a think-tank(Out of government) with people like rattan tata, narayana murthy, Azim prem ji, abdul kalam etc. to direct country towards progress.
Already there is some committee something like national planning commisson including Montek Singh Alhuwalia and (even some foreigners). :) No??

5) Compulsion to vote. There should be a marking on voter id card or some other system making sure that everyone votes and show cause for people who don't. more voting booths like in colleges, Office campuses.
yaah.. but even now nobody can DENY u the voting right.. one CAN vote if he/she WANT.
Apparently problem is more of WHOM to choose!!!

6) Debates on national television on policy and agenda prior to elections.
I have seen some live parliament session in progress.. if i am supposed to expect the similar pre-election DEBATE, then hell NO!! :(

7) Major drive to change Out-dated Indian Constitution Laws.
"Major drive".. ok.. lets do it. where i am supposed to drive??

Please add your suggestions, may be my ideas are pretty exuberant but as we say "Drastic times need drastic measures"

Drastic measures... Ok, Lets melt down the whole SYSTEM... nullify the currency.. declare the nation as BANKRUPT.
we will design a new society.. :)
we'll start from the scratch..
So many 'novel' ideas floating around, we WILL implement all...
Everything will be just PERFECT...
No poverty.. no attack.. not even a single problem!!

Any volunteer for this noble cause?? :)

I am up for putting a minimum education level for the voters!

So that people can make rational choices and not get swayed by emotional speeches.

Informed people , informed choices!

there will be lot of CHEATINGS... :) anway who will decide the exam syllabus

Do we have cheating in IIT or IAS????????????
Syllabus can be decided by civil services.

wat??????? ever heard of USA???? more then 50 states, two party system.
Coalition governments in multi-party system are weak decision makers, and i guess we all witnessed pretty shameful incident in nuclear deal fiasco.

Whom we will call Mr. President then?? :p

What is the ******* use of Mr. President?
you can call prime-minister president if you are so fond of this word.

Already there is some committee something like national planning commisson including Montek Singh Alhuwalia and (even some foreigners). :) No??

Jesss....but do you know who heads plannning commision???
PRIMEMINISTER OF INDIA, din't i say it should be OUT OF RULING GOVERNMENT SCOPE?

The major issue faced by election process in India is younger/educated generation not voting as they think that whomsoever we vote, it will remain same!! With compulsion to vote people who prefers to chat n fill up forums will be part of decision.
If you don't like any candidate, then there is something like NEUTRAL or NEGATIVE vote. If "NONE OF THE ABOVE" votes are more than votes winning candidate got, then election should be canceled and candidates participated in that election should not be allowed to participate again!

I have seen some live parliament session in progress.. if i am supposed to expect the similar pre-election DEBATE, then hell NO!! :(

I am not talking about parliament session, pre-election debate on national television where election nominees from both parties can debate and prove their intellectual worth, so people can make rational choices.

It was the laughing part???? sorry i missed it.

ohh....so your idea is to watch political gimmicks on your LCD and keep your tushee warm! nice huhh!!

Yeah Stricter population control measures, Education n health sector renovation are also must.

Good Thread

I think it is a good thread to discuss.
The points raised are interesting. There is a way that we can bring a better democracy to the nation.

I believe, that it might be right time and a very good idea to go in for the Presidential form of government on the lines of US system. It has worked very well here for centuries. I am sure it can work in our system as well.

We already had a lot of views on Center State relationship. Let us give more powers to state with Central government controlling major issues like Foreign Policy, Defense, Education and Finance. The states should be responsible for their own law and order and taxation policy. Central Government must help the State Governments in maintaining law and order when needed.

There should be no restriction for people to move from state to state and become citizen in those states. National resources could be controlled by the Central Government. This could include the distribution of water.

English and Hindi must be compulsory languages in all the states.

There should be only one constitution. No other law in the nation. People should have freedom to practice the religion but not on streets. This should be done either at home or at places of worships. So long a religious activity does not impairs the law and order/ essential services, it should be fine.

Public agitations should be permitted so long they don't destroy the national or personal property of others. No damage to essential services by any agitation.

Regarding quality of politicians, a minimum education level must be enforced. There should be less number of representatives in the Central Government. While there could be as many parties as they can afford at state level, there should be minimum membership level and percentage of votes secured by the political parties for becoming a national party.

Education could be made free up to 10th grade, with state and central government funding it, and ensureing minimum standard of school systems.

There is a lot one can write, but let us have some more views from other members.

खरबूजा छुरी पे गिरे या छुरी खरबूजे पर... either way nuthin' is gonna happen.

Everything will be strict no loose end.

--Compulsery Voting, otherwise cansel the voting right.
--Option of Nagative Voting.
--Strict Laws for every crime.
--No apeasement.
--Strict border cover(No infiltration)
--Strict and effective population control.
--Same Tax structure Nationwide.
--No security for politicians as well as top beaurocrates.
--Education, Food, House and security of commen men will be governments responsibility.
--No strikes and no agitation in working hours.( Kam koi band nahi karega)

sir, everthing exist in the present system except the point highlighted in red. There is no country in the world where there is minimum educational qualification for politicians. Most of the states have free education up to 10th grade but it should be made a fundamental right under constitution. I do agree with you that English and Hindi must be compulsory languages in all the states.

Do we have cheating in IIT or IAS????????????

good one..
but do u have any idea when was the last time a 'fair candidate' was selected in HCS?? :)
condition of the other states is more or less same!!!

Apparently u r a extremely learned individual.. so i assume u must be aware that after a 'certain time', these hcs have more powers/ plump postings than most of the ICS!!
and few of these so called 'good IAS' are sidelined somewhere in north-east.

and btw: are 'these babus' are really clean?? are they any better than these politicians??

wat?????? ever heard of USA???? more then 50 states, two party system.

first of all thanx a lot for enlightening me about the no of states in US.. m really obliged. :)

And ur "ever heared of USA" contains my answer. that is USA.. NOT india!! do one thing, read more about the socio-economic-education-'problems' of US, and also the state-federal relation, duties and laws. and hopefully u'll realize that it is not like INDIA!!!

P.S. ever heard of a country called CHINA.. there is only "ONE" party (also one child policy) :p

What is the ******* use of Mr. President?
you can call prime-minister president if you are so fond of this word.

hmm thats quite an explanation. :D
m bit bored, so sometime later :)

Jesss....but do you know who heads plannning commision???
PRIMEMINISTER OF INDIA, din't i say it should be OUT OF RULING GOVERNMENT SCOPE?

again m enlightened abt the head of the planning commission.
What is the point in having in new and newer commissions and committees??

it shows the inefficiency of people not the commission!!!
existing one are malfunctioning... who is going to head ur "hypothetical commission"?? Aliens?? :(

CBI was supposed to ba an independent body.. free from political interference.. or pressure!!! is it so now?? :tamatar

Not much to say but just: remove ur green-tinted glass!!!

I am not talking about parliament session, pre-election debate on national television where election nominees from both parties can debate and prove their intellectual worth, so people can make rational choices.

ha ha ha ha

So these politicians undergo some kind of transformation after election!!! thats a NEWS for me!!!

in Pre-election debate, they are going to be scholar, learned, pure, pious, innocent, non-corrupted !!

slightly off-line: some IITians started a party and they are contesting elections, etc.. i think they have nice ideas and nice intentions!!! :)
HELP them PLZ. my personal, humble and sincere request.

It was the laughing part???? sorry i missed it.

thats ok, next time i will make it in BOLD, ITALIC and GREEN fonts.. that will be a sign to say lol :)

ohh....so your idea is to watch political gimmicks on your LCD and keep your tushee warm! nice huhh!!

oh boy.. no, i don't have LCD .. i have old spheroid type CRO!!! :)

tushee warm: if u could elaborate it slightly more ( my processor is also a bit slow), i would have been in a position to comment further!!

eh!!

Once again: no system is perfect... creating new laws, newer committees is not going to serve any purpose... Reform must start form the individual people. Education is of uttermost importance.. ofcourse right kind of education!!

What about IIT-JEE, All IIT-ians are also un-fair candidate???
Its so simple, if you can understand that purpose of having an education eligibility criteria is to have learned candidates and Isn't it obvious that best brains of country should lead it???

So, you are in favor of multi-party system, could you please let me know what good this system has done to our country, whenever government needs to take tough stand, its black-mailed by the supporting parties. and what happened on nuclear deal was witnessed by whole world.
CHINA....was i talking bout single party system???? A BIG NOOOO!!

again m enlightened abt the head of the planning commission.

My pleasure, i do these enlightenments almost free of cost.
What is the point of having an commission whose chairman is changed in few years irrespective of what he offers..and anyone from board can be elected chairman(the very usual process!!!!!!!).
Aliens???? voooshhh!!!! what were you thinking???
Yeah CBI thing never worked out, especially after interventions by Indira gandhi while here ruling. however that doesn't mean that no independent commission can survive.

ha ha ha ha

You just can't get it, i'll explain again, pre-election debate is for people who vote can see the candidates's intellectual worth and make a rational choice.
So, treat this as NEWS or whatsoever and read twice a day.

tushee warm: if u could elaborate it slightly more ( my processor is also a bit slow), i would have been in a position to comment further!!

google "tush", clue for you: Its a noun.

obviosuly no system is perfect, but it can be better!!!
