My b'day was on 7 March and I completed 11 yrs. I have to wait for 7 years to get the Right to Vote(my mother is doing LL.B. and I sometimes read her books)I went with my mother to vote when there were elections in Delhi.

1) For all administrative purposes Scottland and Wales are autonomous states !
They even have their own sporting teams that take part as independent states. To many people UK is synonymous to England.So UK as England is smaller than Gujrat.

UK is a sovereign state which consists of 4 countries : England ,Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

3) There is no doubt about the fact that India is the largest democracy.

I had clarified this earlier. When words like "largest" and "biggest" are used, the obvious connotation is geography and not demography. Still, the last one is a common statement and if that statement is made standalone, it can be accepted as to have been made on terms of "demography". But the other 2 are sacrilegeous statements and since the third one was made with the other 2, it should be seen in the same light. Besides, UK is UK and England is England. They have their clear distinctions on what comprises UK and what comprises England. If a young and educated leader is making some claims in public (as is the case here), I expect him to be prepated.

Haha, good one. So my hunch was correct that you got it. I had translated the statements to Hindi so that no one can easily think of googling. But you still did it, kudos to you for that! I am impressed! By the way, I did say there was a 50% chance that you were right- that was because that before you posted there were 12 votes and none of them was Rahul Gandhi. After you posted, there were 14 votes and one of them was Rahul Gandhi. So one of the two votes would have been yours. Anyways, congratulations for cracking the exam

Though Koyal has already mentioned this, still here is an official declaration . The right answer is Rahul Gandhi. I had translated the statements to Hindi so that no one can google easily (Koyal still did it). Clearly, Rahul Gandhi is not easy to imagine. The poll results are:
Total votes- 23. Rahul- 2. And highest for Modi-13.
Any polling beyond this is redundant as correct answer is known now. I thought of editing my original post so the context is clear for anyone reading from now onwards, but that can't be done.

A common excuse that can be cited in Rahul's favor is that he was referring to population. But, here is an article on why that is not the case. There are links to videos on youtube as well, the original as well as a parody made by a blogger.

Sir, the statements were made in English. As I had stated earlier, I put it in Hindi so that no on could google to get the answer. Just to make the quiz more fun. And also to show the stereotypical images we have of politicians in our minds. Most people would have thought Modi because of reference to Gujarat and then there were usual suspects like Mayawati who are regarded as ignorant.

Additionally, he used the word "big" and not "large". His actual words after showing off his recent visit to UK and meetings with leaders there were: "Gujarat is bigger than UK, just to give you an idea". Followed by lots of claps from sycophants. And then "But the reality is that there is no other country, no other democratic country in the world the size of India". Probably at this stage even the sycophants too realized that it was getting too much and stopped clapping. Again, focus on the word, "size". So he used the words, big and size, and in English. And that's precisely why he doesn't have an excuse. I have nothing against Rahul Gandhi and used to hope that he'd be a bit different just because of his age and supposedly quality upbringing. But the fact is that he is where he is just because of his name and not because of any inherent qualities. Kudos to you for still getting the right answer .
