A completely nonsensical answer! If you are incapable of answering in a serious tone to a serious question, why do you even bother? This is not the humor forum so stop dragging it down!
By the way, Amrit, I believe that you are correct in saying that overpopulation is one of the biggest problems facing humanity today. There may be multiple solutions, however two come to mind, one being enforcement and the other being education. Enforcement is what China does where people are coerced into having fewer kids. Education is what is being tried in India through TV ads, "prod shiksha", "aanganwaadi" etc. However, I believe that we have largely been unsuccessful in controlling the population. In my opinion, either every single person has to be educated on why having fewer kids is beneficial for us as a society or coercion is the only way left. I agree that China has a problem with male to female ratio being quite unbalanced but things will balance out after a few decades (with a large number of male population going unmarried). After that, China would be much better off than India.

the solution to this problem lies in reduction of wants and desires. the main problem is the unsustainable consumerist attitutde of humans. more and more consumption and greed leads to scarcity of resources.
so the solution lies in living a simple and austere life.
as gandhi said " earth has enough for everbodys needs, but not for everybodys greed"

so its the greed that is causing scarcity of resources, not the population.

Total non-sensical thread !!!

how ???

do males in china have Y-Y chrosomes or do they have additional (only) Y chrosomes... so that all possibilities count for a male being born ?

i wonder why 1 child policy can bring the disparity of more males being born... cud you please elaborate. also, how do you contemplate and/or corelate that with yr so called samasya's and (dharti par) limited resources ???

the disparity among male-female ratio in china is cos of sex selection technologies nd sex-selective abortions... nd not because of their 1 child policy... instead their 1 child policy is towards solving yr so called samasya nd improving the resources.

in light of this... i see no sense of reasoning in your thread... guess this thread shud be be moved to time-pass section... or else more folks are going to join me to ridicule yr total non-sensensical assumptions.

Dude relax ...
Also ... most people know that population is a problem ... even the uneducated ones ... they have children inspite of that.
This is because we have a democracy with highly flawed democratic institutions because of which Public Goods such as Law enforcement, Courts, Infrastructure, Education, healthcare, social security (like social security checks and Medicare for older citizens in the US), environment suffer. These institutions have not improved at all despite the recent economic growth because it requires citizens to be aware of the long term effect of these issues. Obviously majority of our population is aware of these issues and they vote primarily based on caste/religion of a candidate because they cannot think beyond tomorrow (becasue of poverty, illiteracy, non-homogeniety - intercaste, inter-religious, inter-regional hatred)
Lack of democratic institutions and the pastoral nature of our citizens (an extra mouth to feed is not a big deal !), culture - preference for male child, more males in the family means greater status for family which means other families with not mess with them - this insecurity arises because of lack of democratic institutions !!
There are also fringe concerns (In India's case whereas, in Latin America(Catholics), Subsaharan Africa (Muslim) it might be a major concern) like religion (Catholics and Muslims are dictated by their religion to have more children)

I hope that's not a non-sensical answer.......... Jeez !!

If you have a 1 child policy like China, naturally most people would want that child to be male. so sex selection procedures and abortion. So the imbalance in male female ratio. This makes perfect sense.
Yes, over population is perhaps the biggest problem created by mankind.

Let me correct this. Like it or not, in 1 child policy, most people want a male child. Chinese are no different. I have talked to some people from mainland china here in US and that is what they say.

Sounds logical!!!

Good Post!!!

I dont know what can be the solution here. We have tried everything. Sanjay Gandhi's special treatment to Educating People. But aak dhak wahi 3 paak!!!

A few days back I was watching an interview of a woman on some news channel. That lady was having some 7-8 children. When NGO asked why she was having so much children she said ki (I am really sorry for using such language, if Moderators want, they can delete this line)
"Mere mard ko sirf 2 cheezein aati hain, alcohol n sex."

That lady was then asked if they use condoms she asked what a condom is?

Now this is the education that we are imparting for population control. What government needs to understand here is that they are maximum time educating those people who already are aware of the problem. What we need to have is a systematic program which gives this education to interior of India. Only then we can stop population burst.

Solution lies in WAR !
Better breed survives , e.g. Three wars of panipat.

Will end space for 'Chaploos' due to direct fight.
Results cannot be fabricated.......if are stronger you will win ( or atleast survive).

Have you noticed why this problem of over population erupted (felt) in these last 30-40 years.....whereas human civilization tracks itself to some 5000 years back!

Equilibrium will be reached

Sooner or later the problem of overpopulation has to be and will be tackled. The question is weather we do it ourself or nature does it for us.

Personally I think that the best solution is education. It is mostly illiterate/poor people who have more children, either due to ignorance or for the desire of having more earning members with least responsibilities. If an educated woman is working then she would herself would not like to have many kids and even if she is not working then also she would refrain herself from having more children because of awareness. It is not just about women, it applies to men also - an educated man would endeavor to provide best education and opportunities to his children and he can do so by not increasing the load and responsibilities which is directly related to many children. Also educated people usually refrain from marrying too soon, till the time they feel that they are settled. Lastly education helps to develop counciousness and awareness and it can be hoped that large families would not be preferred.

Yes, over population is perhaps the biggest problem created by mankind.

1 child policy and that too male, in long term population problem will be solved - without female reproduction will not be possible. And there will be more crimes if there is no equal ratio of man and woman and then Darwins' theory Survival of the fittest will be applicable.

Aatam hatya

This is also a solution that Nature will impose on us if Nature can not bear our burden.
Once I read when I was very small - there is a place I don't know now where over populated mice commit suicide altogether by jumping in a river.

Though it may sound funny, but one way is to implement it the way Ch Bansilal did it in Haryana during emergency!

Emergency time saw the introduction of the new "family planning initiative" under which brutal coercion and forced sterilisation of the most defenceless people became the norm :D :D :D ......

Na rahega baans ... Na bajegi Baansuri !!
