Dear Atish:
"History has been evident of many political leaders in India who have been graduated from Harvard, Oxford and other prestigious institutes."
Give some numbers who are from harvard etc and then those who are not and then relate each of them to being good in their job or not.
have any numbers?
Correlation does not mean causation
Many leaders have been from these institutes, more than them have not been from there....So you proved no point at all by bringing that fact up.
As far as a management degree is concerned, I strongly feel it is related.
MBA in USA is super rigorous and teaching is based on the case study method by which real life instances of companies/ firms and nations are discussed under theoretical concepts of finance, strategy and logic. This is very important for a person who is in a position to make important decisions especially related to development and money utilization. Thus MBA is very different than other degrees of liberal arts or even engineering
Further an exposure in the 1st world countries can tell a person what things, particulalry in infrastructure, should be improved and how efficient concepts can be put together.
Qualifications are also not any causation of success as a politician or in any other field. there are many doctorates from good schools who could not achieve a lot of material success in life.
However, that said, education gives a person a lot of ideas, skills, discipline and perspective of life. It also improves ones mannerisms and communication skills which are all the more important in todays world.
In todays world, besides what is need right now, politicians need to have a vision of the future...maybe into 5 or 10 years ahead. India has a weak infrastructure and developing it will take time and hard work. But someone who knows what to expect and understands it theoretically and practically can implement it as opposed to someone who just has a liberal arts degree like MA from India.
Managers are made in MBA schools. Managers are taught how to lead people and manage organizations which are formed from people. There is a direct correlation between this and Deependers present job profile.
Hope you do see some truth in the above.
Ramesh
Dear Ramesh,
History has been evident of many political leaders in India who have been graduated from Harvard, Oxford and other prestigious institutes. Take an example of Mr. Manmohan Singh. He is just a facade of Congress Party and has been following instructions from Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Jawahar Lal Nehru, another example but in somewhat different manner. He is one of the root cause of acidulous relationship between China and India.
Having a management degree sometimes does not help in politics. In politics we need leadership skills. We need a person who knows real facts. A person who has been inloved in politics for a long time.Sardar Patel was a good leader. One of the responsible person to integrate all of the jajvadas into a Country. It depends upon your skills not necessarily degrees.
