CHANDIGARH: Ahead of elections, Congress like all other parties has the
aam admi on its lips. But most of its candidates waving the common man banner for the October 13 assembly vote are far from common.
A survey of 489 candidates, about half of the candidates in the fray, shows that more than 50% are crorepatis. According to affidavits of candidates analysed by National Election Watch, a citizen action group working for poll reform, as many as 251 candidates (51%) have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.
NEW also says most parties seem to have favoured crorepatis for tickets. Among major parties, Congress has given tickets to 72 crorepatis, INLD to 56 and Bhajan Lal's Haryana Janhit Congress to 44.
In terms of net worth, on top of the heap (of the candidates surveyed) is Bhajan Lal's Haryana Janhit Congress candidate Mohit Yadav (from Kosli constituency, Rewari).
His assets are worth Rs 92.7 crore. He is followed by Venod Sharma (Ambala) of Congress with a net worth of Rs 87.4 crore.

DILLI MEIN TO KATTAN AALA HAI ROG BUS FARE AALA BHI

NEW DELHI: After Diwali, expect to pay much more for using public transport in the capital. While bus fares are likely to increase by up to 150% in
some slabs, Delhi Metro is also set to increase its fares. Sources said the monthly bus pass for students, too, will cost Rs 100 instead of Rs 12.50.
The fare revision proposal sent by the transport department is expected to be cleared by Delhi government as soon as it gets the cabinet’s nod. Though several revised fare options have been submitted to the government and a final decision is yet to be made, highly placed sources maintained that a steep increase in fares can be expected this time around, especially for those taking short bus rides.
One of the main reasons for this is the Delhi Metro, where the fare structure is higher than in buses. Sources said the new fare structure will have just three slabs — Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 15 for distances of 0-3km, 3-10km and over 10km. The existing fare slabs are Rs 3, Rs 5, Rs 7 and Rs 10 for distances of 0-4km, 4-8km, 8-12km and over 12 km.
Bus fares were last revised in 2007 but the increase was moderate. The proposal is most likely to be accepted, say sources, as it has minimum overlap with Delhi Metro fares. The premise being followed is that if bus and Metro fares are the same, especially for long distance trips, commuters are more likely to prefer the Metro. But if the differential is considerable, the lower economic strata will go for buses.
