Air India is a sick government airline abused by politicians, bureaucrats and AI officials for themselves and their family.
In a dirt poor country like ours, these traitor politician are keeping this airline afloat even though it lost 4000 crores last year - http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2009/05/13/stories/2009051351801500.htm

I am sure all of you must have heard about the latest scandal - pilots and crew getting into a brawl on air in full view of passengers. It was so egregious that it is all over the foreign media - everybody is laughing at India - since - this illegal airline --- yes it is illegal!! has 'India' in its name.

These shameless, puerile, imbecile, retarded, smug, ba$tards started fighting mid-air and later on came up with different bull$hit accounts to wash their hands off this scandal.

This airline needs to be shut down yesterday and crew needs to be sent to jail............. disgusting.

I think except Defense Services, All govt companies need to be sold to some Jews.. Majority of staff in PSUs are above 50 and they are not realizing that they are eroding the Govt Assets.. Air India had tactical advantage after Jet Airways strike..They lost it also by strike and now they are trying to touch new lows..:mad::mad::mad:
 
I once flew Air India and I loved it. Food was great. Service was good. Bathrooms stank like Indian Railways. But I guess it was their feeble attempt to acclimatize their customers to India before they land in India. :p

I heard about this incident. Shameful is the word that comes to my mind. I won't jump on blaming the Government right away But, I guess Government management could be blamed for the lack of professionalism. I don't remember last time a Government department understood the concept of professionalism.

Mr. Sanghavi offers a good suggestion to help resuscitate Air India: Privatize it!

"Privatize" is the word that makes a lot of eyeball squirt blood. A lot of people equate privatization with selling away the country. I remember a lot of people protesting against certain Government entities being sold to private entrepreneurs.

I am a believer in Austrian Economics. The core of this school of thought is that no one individual or a group of certain individuals have the power to accurately predict the market. Thats why those who bet on the market and eventually make money did not actually successfully predict the market. They just speculated and they won.

Further, markets are driven by the forces of demand and supply. It is the aggregate of the demands of all consumers in the market and the aggregate of all suppliers of goods and services that satisfy such consumer demand, that help determine the appropriate quantity to be produced and the corresponding appropriate per-unit price.

What is the market? Market is made up of individual consumers like me and you and individual producers of goods and services. Free-Market system is the most democratic of all Market-Systems. It takes into account the wishes of all consumers and producers. Thus Free-Markets help determine the appropriate prices and quantities to be produced.

Businesses in a Free-Market have to take into consideration the powerful forces of demand and supply. These forces have the power to keep the business going without a hitch or bankrupt it overnight. Public Sector entities like Air India do not have to cater to such market forces.

Air India employees (non political appointments) expect to have their jobs forever. If the Airline goes bust, the Government Printing Press (Treasury) can keep it on life support indefinitely. In short Air India is somewhat immune to the market forces of Demand and Supply.

A few days ago, I read about the poor maintenance of Air India planes. It reminds me of Aeroflot (Russian Airlines). Most people prefer not to fly Aeroflot even if they are selling their tickets for half of what the next airline is charging for a similar flight.

I am kind of apprehensive about using Aeroflot. Now, after this incident I am highly apprehensive about using Air India.
 
Why is anyone or everyone surprised at AI story. This is the karmic truth of this nation. Given the opportunity almost all of us will indulge. These are the comments of some tourists to India, "it is a land of rapists, insecure imbecilles, boastful, egotistical, corrupt, self righteous hypocrites". It is unbelievable that some pilot will grope, molest his colleague while flying at 35k altitude, get in scuffle with complete disregard to safety and responsibility, however these kind of people never get tired of complaining about everything under the sun.

If you think Defense services are the holy cow, that are clean as whistle then my friend, you are sorely mistaken. Corruption has become embedded in every aspect of Indian thread. Let me ask you this how is it possible that pakistanis know more about arms, equipment, strategy, doctrine, logistics, spares, storage, before it is implemented at company level.

I will give you an example, Indias Ambassdor to US Mira Nair is busy staying in New Delhi close to her children and husband than actually performing her duties, all the while pakistani ambassdor is canvassing every senator, official and policy maker of US gov't to get more economic and military aid to strengthen their military for the next war with India so they can beat "coward hindus" and take kashmir.
Pakistanis in the last 8 years have tripled their self propelled howitzers M109A6 artillery guns that are considered best in business. Their inventory now is 200 SPH, Indian inventory-- Zero. Remember during kargil we lost more soldiers to Artillary fire than infantry ops. Yet still this idiot PM and corrupt gov't still sitting on files to procure a viable option. Three major manufacturers have been black listed for corruption charges namely, Denel, Singapore, Bofors. Only ones left are German PZH 2000, American manufacturer. Americans are not gonna give us anything, that leaves Germans, they have become peaceniks they don't want to be part of arms race in south asia.
What are we left with ZERO.

The pilots - Commander Ranbeer Arora and Capt Aditya Chopra - tried to molest her, and when she resisted they pushed her outside the cockpit.

The co-pilot and a flight purser, Amit Khanna, allegedly received minor injuries in the exchange of blows in the incident which occurred around 4.30 a.m. Saturday when the flight IC-884 (Sharjah-Lucknow-Delhi) was over Pakistan.

I believe you. The ruling class including politicians and bureaucrats are all traitors. This is the reason why nobody, especially US and Western Europe never take India seriously .. because they know that we donot have a focussed foreign policy and are basically risk-averse and spineless. Nobody in government is ready to be accountable ... once they are in power, they only concentrate on looting the treasury for the next 5 years and sending the loot to Swiss bank accounts - because they know that by the end of 5 years, there is a very slim chance that they will get re-elected.

Meera Shankar ka ek hi kaam se .... saari pehar ke ... maathe pe moti bindi laake ... kaddu type look cultivate karke ... sabne Indian culture ka lecture dena America mein. Nobody gives a rats a$$ about Indian culture in America - just makes everyone look stupid.

I will give you an example, a very close friend of mine who had interactions with Indians at Military and Civilian level was embarrassed many times. This is the behaviour of "Bharat Mata key Saput" who come to USA for training--Their first request after arrival with cheek in tounge
1. Where is red light district? How do I get a Gori?
2. Where is the best shopping place?Where can I buy designer, name brand clothes at the cheapest price.
3. How to get visa and admission for my son, daughter, bhatija, bhatiji, bhanja, bhanji. How can I get Green Card best way possible?

Almost all of these idiots are either laughed at or later on contacted by Intel agents. One of the reason US doesn't care about Indian Military might regardless of what Doordarshan and lata mangeshkar sings, they know the real combat strength of Indian Military. Honestly, many people are surprised that china hasn't launched a full frontal attack if that happens, 1962 debacle will look like childs play.
If anyone thinks Military Officers and their liasons are bad, guess what, the IAS and IFS types are the worst form of Indian Life. They openly offer their services, access to Indian Gov'ts operations to anyone who can offer them Greenback and Greencards for their children.:D

Shocking & eye opening information.. Many times it looks so scary that how this country is running.. Why everybody is raping it so badly.. I don't know what stopping them buying good weapons..

Shame on India that they were trying to buy weapons form Singapore.. 600 Sq Km country with only 3 million citizens..
When I read this kind of information, I convince myself that I did a right think to leave IGI Airport when I got a first chance..
China is making naval bases in Bangladesh, Srilanka and Pakistan. There are daily visits by Chinese soldiers to Ladakh to do grocery shopping. I think Asians are not mentally prepared for Democracy.. Something needs to be done before we history gets chance to repeat itself.

Some good points on this thread.

however, one thing which crossed my mind:

India needs

1)privatization (as much as possible and as fast as possible),
2)a broader perspective from younger generation and
3) work ethic.

Now consider this forum, what is the objective?
Division on the basis of cast? isnt it? The same people here harp about a JAT not getting this job or that job and a chamaar, baniya, pandit etc getting it.

The discussion is never about the real talent getting it, but about JATs not being preferred by a JAT CM.

Young people spend hours and hours here talking about politics or casteism and throwing sh*t on each other so how much must they be contributing in their jobs or social welfare?

Which of the above 3 is possible under the continued orthodox mindset that even well read jats are displaying here?

I disagree with your idea of privatization. It is not some silver bullet that will cure the disease but a fancy word for gouging and greed. What we need is Discipline. With discipline comes work ethics, punctuality, time and work management. Why is it some people slog long hours and still get reprimanded by their bosses whereas others work their business hours, are called indispensable employees.
I don't remember if it was Jet Airways or shara whose CEO fired pilots for forming union. His sole argument was there should be no breakdown in discipline at any given time. He was paying the pilots to fly planes and generate revenue that will pay their salaries and perks, he was not paying them to get involved in politics of labor laws etc, if they want to pursue their political ambitions and become leaders then "Thank you for your service, best of luck in your future endavours". Once these pilots saw their paycheck evaporate they started crying foul and went to gov't for help.
What i don't understand why do you need union in todays time, there are laws that protect workers better than they were 50 years ago. Union is a caricature of lethargy, nikammapan, free loaders, laziness of people who want to make money by not working for it.

Sir! I think you meant to describe how PSU concerns are run by Government Departments. If you meant to describe private business owners as greedy then heres my rebuttal.

What you think is greed is the struggle to meet obligations towards stakeholders. Anyone can have a stake in a Publicly Traded company unlike a Public/Government owned company that is in reality owned by the Government. Try going to a Government Department and ask for your share of profits from some company that it runs and they will figure out where to kick you.

Socialists have been holding on to their argument that Capitalists are greedy. In some countries where they have managed to get their way, they and their comrades have raped the lengths and breadth of entire nations. In those countries everyone but those whoare the Higher-ups in the Government, end up becoming poor.

Anyway, Socialism-Capitalism has been a long running debate. I do not think its going to end anytime soon. But, my belief is that the best system is the one that is more democratic and is based on peoples wishes and preferences. Socialism does not fulfill these basic requirements of a free society.

Remember Enron, deregulation and privatization of Utilities virtually bankrupted California, Power Plant built by Enron for $5 Billion in Maharashtra became dud sooner than becoming fully operational. The difference between Socialist greed and Capitalist greed is the quality of the suit they wear. I hope you understand what I just said.
