It is an extremely bad article. I'd definitely write to Chetan Bhagat. But our own Ravinderjeet's response is even worse. Chetan Bhagat doesn't know about Jats or their customs. What excuse Ravinderjeet has? "Poore Europe mein faile hue hain...", "Hindu Dharm ki jaati nahin hai..", "Sikandar ko haraya tha...", "Haq nahin diya to chheen lenge..", "Musalmanon ke khilaaf kyun nahin likhte..."!!!!!!!! There are too many to point out. Has he lost it completely?!?

And then we say Media misrepresents our community. It is these type of bigoted views that leads to the perception that we don't like. Most of Chetan Bhagat's arguments can be defeated logically. Instead, we reply by writing nonsense and you know what he (and by extension others in media) would think- "typical hate mail from someone whom I have exposed so logically".

Sanjay just to add bit to your post # 168. We have hindu marriage act, and now coming sikh marriage act, muslim marriage act and than special marriage act ?? and than in HMA we have a few exclusions in HMA itself so how could they deny this demand unless they make a uniform civil act.

For those who say the purposed amendment wont be effective and its a useless exercise by a few idiots. I just want to add a thing that laws are not amended like this. They are discussed in the parliament and a draft is prepared. The Govt (and law ministry) may take advise of law experts to check whether the purposed amendment is in conflict of any existing law or whether its against the constitution. They will also discuss whether the law would be effective or not. If there are any loop poles they will discuss on that and if needed they would be taken care of.
Other thing is laws get mature by time and further sections are added with time to capture these loop poles.

At this stage we cant say whether the amedment would be effective or how effective or not effective at all unless the final draft is prepared by the drafting commettee than send the same to Law commission which suggest what may be omited or inserted, then ask advise form Solicitor General of India(SOI)
. This also takes time and will happen after discussion by experts. All these things would be covered in discussion. If they find its not effective at all than something else to cover that would be proposed.

What Idiots like us can do is only put pressure on Govt and get this demand recognised.

I dont care about HMA as it's nothing to do with Jats and their customs. If its not amended Jats won't start marrying in cousins or self-gotra expect few fake ones. There're enough evils in society that require to be get rid of, instead of wasting our time in such a trivial issue. We're hell beating issue of honor killing, same gotra issues n' others, why not focus on serious issues like Female foeticide, Education, rural devlopment etc.

Second with u on the proper upbringing .. aajkal ke parents bhi ghanne modern ho liye hein, instead of teaching the proper culture, tradition they feel great to teach them about the fake modernity n' american culture. Feel proud to talk them in english, hardly take them to villages n' all such.

Agree with you completely....It is such a trivial issue that it does not make sense why we are getting so emotional about it and loosing our cool for it...Our community has such great achievements to be proud of that a few deviants of same gotra marriage should not effect the solid foundations of our honor. And even if it did effect, then those guilty of doing it have been weeded out from our community. And same can be done in future, if need be. I don't see any problem.

The source of every problem in our community is the education and exposure to other communities. That has provided us with so many perspectives that it confuses us. Right does not appear right, wrong does not appear wrong, all messed up...so, we are left with no choice but use logic or reasoning, if we have it, to figure it all out.

Let's go back to our roots, lets remain uneducated, let's go back to farming and live the simple subsistence way of life......why have we complicated everything with all these external influences?....Let's strengthen our customs, our identity, our ego.......

Agree with the first para. You're right, those guilty already got the punishment n' if one practices same in future, will be weeded out from community and must be. Period.

Dont be sarcastic, who says binding with roots is synonym of being uneducated? Our fathers generation ppl from our community rose from grass root level and touched the sky with their sheer hard work n' determination Still they are very much attached to our roots, villages n customs. h) must not be against fundamental rights
i) must be continuing, no break
customs - local, class & family customs
2 same gotra marriages are not allowed not only in our community but in many communities of north, it has been a proper custom, the custom is being followed by north indians , some cases of voilations were there, are there & will be there weather you amend the act or not, these voilations are taking place in other communities also but dealing with such voilations differs, we shought & show more but do less, we are not handling the situation properly. I am sure even after amendment, if at all it takes place, the situation for jats will remain almost the same.
3 suggestions-
a) we have to be bit flexible, practical, human &transparent,educate children on our culture customs etc, no self interest/eggo/politics while dealing with such matters, keep media & politicians away, if some incidant take place, keep law of the land in view while giving decisions. My openion, decision has to be social like a perticular community can seperates itself from such persons who have voilated the social custom.

Not sure why as most of the controversies related to breaking the customs have come from rural folks well connected to their farmlands. I am not sure who these nameless, faceless, liberals are. As many here who are targeting the stereotyped modern, uber-cool youth actually appear to be the stereotyped modern, uber-cool youth in language, attire and tendency to shoot from the hip.

There is so much dichotomy and contradiction in people here that my head is spinning. People claim to be the most nationalistic and then in the same breath get racist and anti-national by hurling abuses on other communities and calling everyone else inferior to Jats. Those who have championed freedom of speech and expression on several threads pertaining to several topics are frothing at their mouth questioning the rights of others commenting on Jats. Bad articles on Jats are tackled not through logic but through hate mail spewing venom on the author and extolling Jats as gods' own species superior to homo-sapiens. The comments are then applauded by others as a befitting reply. As if the non-Jats are supposed to read those comments and think, "Oh, I completely misunderstood these people. They are actually the best thing that happened to India.". There is a rat race to prove who is the most blue-blooded Jat. To qualify for the race, you have to do the above, else you are not a Jat.

Then almost every self-appointed protector of customs has a view on its basis is science. The view is always without fail- "very scientific", as if science is a question of faith. The facts of science are overlooked by what one wants to believe. How scientific!

रविंदर जी शुक्रिया आपके विचारों के लिए. जाट सचमुच महान हैं, लेकिन एक बात याद रखना दोस्त भारत उससे भी ज्यादा महान है, और हम सब देश को पहले रखें तो अच्छा है...और उसी का क़ानून चलता है, नहीं तो सब भिखर जाएगा.

चेतन जी नमस्कार ,
हमें आप का आलेख देनिक जागरण में पढ़ कर बड़ा दुःख हुआ | एक तरफ तो आप कह रहे हैं की आपको गोत और खाप पंचायत के बारे में कुछ नहीं पता और फिर भी आप उनके बारे में लिखते हैं की वे फतवे देते हैं, पुराने जमाने के हैं परम्परा माननी जरूरी नहीं आदि-आदि| इसका मतलब आप पेसे कमाने के लिए कुछ भी लिख मारोगे | अगर आप परम्पराओं को नहीं मानते तो आपने शादी क्यों की ,आपने अपनी ही बहन से रिश्ता क्यों नहीं
बनाया | माँ बाप की सेवा क्यों करते हो , बच्चे पैदा क्यों करते हो, उनका लालन पालन क्यों करते हो,राष्ट्रीय गीत क्यों गाते हो, राष्ट्रिय धवज को सलाम क्यों करते हो | आप को पता होना चाहिए की जाट कोई हिन्दू धरम की जाती नहीं हे ये एक कोम हे जो सब से हट कर हे और पुरे एशिया और यूरोप में फेली हुई हे | अगर भारत सरकार मुसलमानों के लिए अलग विवाह कानून बना सकती हे तो जाटों के लिए क्यों नहीं |
अगर भारत में सब का अधिकार सामान हैं तो अलग-अलग जातियों के लिए आरक्षण क्यों हे | आप मुसलमानो,नाक्साल्वादियों, और अल कायदा के विरोध में क्यों नहीं लिखते जो रोज संकड़ों लोगों को मार रहे हैं | आप लिखते हैं की हिन्दू विवाह अधिनियम में संशोधन तो होने से रहा | हम ये कहना चाहते हैं की जब हक़ मांगने से नहीं मिलता तो छीन लिया जाता हे | दूसरी बात समाज क़ानून बनाता हे ,क़ानून से समाज नहीं
बनता | जाटों से जो भिड़ा हे ,सिकंदर महान से ले कर (उसको हम महान नहीं मानते क्यों की हमने उसको हराया था ) आधुनिक भारत सरकार तक उनका कया हुआ वो आपको पता ही होगा | हमारी परम्पराएं हजारों साल पुरानी हैं और आज भी वैज्ञानिक तोर पर सही हैं | जिन खाप पंचायतों को और जाटों को आप तालिबानी कहते हैं उनोहने ही दुनिया को लोकतंतर दिया हे खेती करना और राष्ट्र राज्या की रक्ष्या करना सिखाया हे |
चेतन केवल आप का नाम हे पर चेतना नहीं हे | बावली तरेड |
