my vote in support for same gotra marriage because of these reasons.
1. I do not encourage same gotra marriage but if someone has decided to do that then it doesnt affect me.
2. There is "difference" in marrying siblings/counsins and same gotra people.
3. When this pratha was started (100s of years backs) then the population of jats was so limited that this pratha made sense but now when you can not trace the roots of same gotra jats to the common ancestor then it doesnt make any sense to follow this rule. Moreoever it is a guidence and advise not a law.
4. anyone who marries a same gotra person, doesnt see a brother or sister in that person. He sees a person with whom he/she had no connection as family and falls in love. may be both of them knew only the first name and then one day they discover, oh! your granmother's gotra is same as my grandmother's gotra..OMG! we are brother sisters now...lets tie rakhi...what rubbish!!
5. this diktat can be forced on weak and poor sections of rural jats, to others - khaps can not even think of enforcing anything of other sections of jat society.
6. Finally, almost all people want to avoid the same gotra marriage but then only a tinniest of the fraction of jat society opt for this. This is the same case where everyone wants to marry within their own cast, as a preference, but some people may end up marrying in other castes.
1) When fire start in another corner of your colony, it may not be directly and immediately effecting you but donnot you get worried, are not you in danger & donnot you think your house can be next, wouldnot you like to plan & take precautions.
2 )Once you allow same gotra marriages, than the day is not far when siblings/cousins will do same thing & no parent, panchayat, khap or govt will be able to stop and I am sure than such indisciplined people will ask to ammened the present ristrictions in HMA.
3) Strength of community doesnot effect, same gotra can be next door, in your house or colony or village, the fire once starts it can go any where.
4) Certainly, when people fall in love they cannot ask or inquire about gotra, but if such marriages are banned by law, people will be more careful & also remedial measures can be taken as per law.
5) Khap is of the people, by the people and for the people, the people who are not poor & not from rural area, also come from families from where khap members come, so your point is totally irrelivent, my dear, khap is voulentary/democratically ellected and accepted organisation & when you join some organisation, isnot it must to follow the rule/traditions of that organisation and if you donot follow the organisation can punish you or you leave that organisation. Friend, you become anything, go to urban & learn few words/figures, collect any wealth but you father will remain your father, your family elders will remain elders and they have right to punish you if you voilate any of the family custom/tradion/rule etc, similarly khap is elder organisation of the community & as long as one remains part of that organisation, the do have to pass orders
6) My dear, once you allow same gotra marriages, the few such cases will multiply very fast & soon the problem will start effecting every one of us
As I said earlier that human being is a social animal, he/she has to stay in a society which can be any society and has to follow the norms/tradions/rule of the society where he/she lives. Thus follow rules/tradions/practices/norms of your own society or either you leave the society or the society will leave you.
