Jokes apart, Rekha’s observation is not outlandish. On such formal occasions one has to show some extra decency. Apparently, Sushil Kumar is a simpleton and may not know much about protocol. As he is still raw for such pomp & pageantry, his behaviour cannot be construed as his arrogance. The organizers, of course, may be blamed for not rehearsing the programme adequately.

you are thinking too much something of your own :)and totally misinterpreting my statement. I never said I would have supported it if media had raised. This observation escaped from media eyes who are good enough to make mountains out of molehills but your glittering eyes caught this and then you were intriguing why this was not noticed by anyone and finally you posted it here. This is my bersion of the story . I am sorry to say but I am not buying your story..

So, afraid of TOI, we stop writing the truth?
TOI has already been declared as crap news paper on JL. TOI's is nothing but Punjab Kesari of english. Who take those SOBs seriously? At least don't care that these MFs write.

I just pray that they see my this post and write something in their flimsy paper.

I don't think chewing gum is such a big issue. It wasn't a dinner table. Lot of other players were talking and taking photos. Is it an issue because he was carrying that Baton? He probably wasn't aware that camera's are zooming into his mouth. He walked & jogged like ,usually, a pahelvan do. What about other players who interrupted him. He looked proud and he had all reasons to be proud. I dont think we should be worried about these things. I have seen him in other interviews he is always modest and bit shy. He shook hand with Charles casually. Then he with all respect and modesty did 'nameskar' with both hands folded to president, prime minister and others. Later I think it was Manmohan(face wasnt visible on the camera) who put his hand forward for a hand shake and he hesitantly did it.

If it would have been such a great issue, for sure it would have been picked by commentators and news channel next day.

How do we know it was chewing gum? Could have been supari, gutkha, tambaakoo, suanf, laung, ilaichi, jeera, mango bite........ The possibilities are endless...!!
I think we should at first firmly establish what he was chewing. That is important to advise him properly. If it was gutkha/tambaakoo, for example, then our recommendation should be to not chew it anytime. Maybe we can tell his mom as well, ki tera chhora gutka chabaawe tha...

Then we should also keep in mind the circumstances. Maybe he has bad breath or had just taken a swig of whisky and wanted to chew something before greeting his royal highness. Or maybe he wanted to throw it but couldn't find a dustbin and couldn't bear to spoil the ultra-clean stadium and before he knew, the camera was on him. Now, it was better to keep it in the mouth than to spit it on camera when the whole world was watching the live telecast. In such a scenario, we should actually praise him for thinking on his feet!!

Given the importance of this discussion, I think we must be very thorough in our thinking!

yesss kapilji, we only guessed it just thru the procedure of rotating the jaw dat a normal being does while chewing gum,i mean its just a guess...like u said possibilities are endless.....it can also b ki ussne roti khaa ke kurla na karya ho..arr jo daantan mein fansya reh gya ho vo ussne ee chaab ke raaji ho rya ho....u knw time pass thing....bcz he must have been so tired waiting his turn dat happened only in the last part of ceremony........but he shud have asked officials to make it the first part so dat...vo apna kaam nipta ke baith jaata kitte kursi pe jaa ke...........God knows k bera ussne kahi bhi ho........arr kisse ne baat na suni ho(so in dis case officials are to b blamed)...............so we must praise him for he didnt actually run away......atleast he did his part.....

so u r so right We must be very thorough in our thinking:p

eggzactly!" now you are thinking...:)

It is very possible you know. I once faced this issue in school when something was stuck in my "jaad" and I was trying to take it out with my tongue. I was also reading a newspaper which made the teacher, who was trying to teach probability, go wild. She asked me a question. As I began answering, my tongue was still trying to take out what was stuck in the jaad. My literal "tongue in the cheek" position apparently looked very sinister (a fact confirmed by friends later) and she threatened to heap third-degree violence on me. Considering her dangerous looks and equally dangerous past, I immediately stopped my tongue from working in the jaad. And a life was saved that day. So moral of the story is that how a normal procedure of rotating the jaw can be so easily misunderstood...:)!

It was really an honour to see Mr. Sushil kumar handing the Baton to prince Charles,But also felt so embarrased for he took it so casually......For heaven's sake!!:( he was on an international platform, sombody shud have told him how to proceed with pride and attitude

Some of us may take it as an offence.......but we jats have a long way to go in mannerisms.....

Well said, he should have been told about the etiquettes at such a international level event. it was an awkward situation. Hope he will learn a lesson from this and amend himshelf in future, will he?

Kapil, we have to mind our body language according to the time, place and circumstances. We cannot afford to be as lax and casual as we feel like all the time and at all places. One has to follow certain norms of behaviour and control our gestures as demanded by the occasion. for example, we avoid crooning in the presence of our elders, whereas in solitude we all have a habit of doing so.

VP Singhji- my posts on this thread are as tongue-in-cheek as my story was. I hope you understand..

You caught the small gum chewing activity by Sushil Kumar, but missed the goof up done by VERY HONOURABLE "Shri Suresh Kalmaadi" . He told press conference that "Prince DIANA" attended the opening ceremony? Now where the hell Diana became alive after 13 years and that too in MALE Avtaar?

Also he addressed former president Mr. APJ Abdul Kalam as Abdul Kalam Ajad! Has he lost his senses compeltely or he was bamboozled by the tadak-bhadak of opening ceremony?? :tamatar

Thik keh rahe ho bhai. Lekin Kalmadi ji ki help se is baar India ke kaafi Gold aa sakte hain. Kalmadi ji ke "Kaam Kaaj" se khush hokar kayi Top Athletes to vaise hi khelo mei hissa nahi le rahe. Chances jayda hain is baar India ke pass desh ka naam roshan karne ke liye.

Kalmadi's speech was hopeless. In view of serious corruption charges, he should be the first casualty after the games.

Australian wrestler Hassene Fkiri was disqualified for obscene gestures and unsporting behaviour during his gold-medal bout against India's Anil Kumar in the 96kg Greco-Roman style at the Commonwealth Games here Tuesday.

Fkiri, who would have picked up a silver medal after losing to Anil Kumar, was thus denied the silver medal.

Fkiri refused to shake hands with Anil after the bout and showed middle finger to officials after the rough bout.

During the bout, the Australian was cautioned twice, once for headbutting and then for slapping the Indian. Fkiri was booed by the crowd and later disqualified by the referee for indiscipline.

Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president G.S. Mander said the decision of technical bench to disqualify the wrestler and strip him of his medal was justified.

'It was a right decision. In any case it would not have affected our medal. We have to see that the sport is played fairly. The opponent was cautioned by the referee and then after the match he did not shake hands with the Anil and the referee,' he said.

Australian coach Kuldi Bass, however, said that he didn't see what happened.

'I didn't see anything so can't tell much about it. Someone else told me he saw it. Fkiri is a very nice person normally. He's very good, win or lose,' said Bass.

'The Indian (Kumar) upset him a bit and was pulling his neck. I told him that was what was going to happen and I think he just lost control. It's very sad and it's bad for the country,' he added.
