Its a request to the people who manages this site

Can we have a 'like/unlike' button for posts???

Like what it is there in Facebook or may be on other networking site.

Liked few post too much felt like clicking on like but it was not there.

hope to see it soon

nice suggestion.
may be this will help in moderating threads better.
Like moderators can get alert for posts with at least 5 dislikes and so can review them.

Also, the members would have do some amount of brainstorming while writing a post...this would certainly improve quaility by discouraging the members who always write "dislike" posts... :-)

Which one would be better : Like/Dislike or Agree/Disagree....I feel latter is more humble..

Structure : Agree/Disagree/Recommended/Offensive

The offensive one's requiring moderators attention and action..

That is a TOI's news/article comments structure. And the relation between JL and TOI can be described as a cat and mouse relationship. We at Jatland hate TOI. :D. but yes good things can be followed.

इस तरह के बटन का मैं तहेदिल से समर्थन करता हूँ.

There is "Rate this thread" option at the top of each thread with options ranging from Excellent to Terrible. Are people not satisfied with those or is it just a matter of not know about these options?

Satyeshwar, that option is for the entire thread. I think it would be worthwhile if the lke/dislike option is available with individual post also like facebook.

Absolutely agree with additional options, along the lines of TOI, will improve quality of postings, more appropriate posts, enhanced moderation tools, etc.

MODS: can any of you please comment i.e. status of this change request. Thanks.

Vishal,
I already posted a reply (just 2 posts above yours). I don't see anyone using the "Rate this thread" option. Are you sure that anyone would use like/dislike button? Adding a useless feature is not going to be in the benefit of the site. I just want to make sure that enough people are behind this.

Hi Satyeshwar,

It would be good to have like/dislike option at post level. This should reduce writing "I agree" "I concur" kind of posts esp by regular members. Also, secondly, it will help improving the quality of posts as people can rate any post.

But here rating need not be 1-5 Stars...... but it can be "I like" and "I dislike" and when someone sees the post -- he should be able to see how many people like that post and how many do not (Their names may eb kept hidden if it causes a problem of harmony). Rest same way as it is on Face Book...

Okay everyone, this little Facebook button took a lot of work and experimentation but I have it working on a per thread basis. On the first post of every thread, there is now a Facebook like option. You need to log on to your Facebook account in order for you to like a thread. I know that people wanted a per post like button but this is more complex. I will continue to investigate this.
