Can we be the solution to road terror/ road rage?
1) We can get our driver's license made without a driving test. Of course, I am a safe driver. Can we vouch for driving by the another person who will get the driver's license made the same easy way? I am tolerant if I or my dear/near ones get the license made this way, but intolerant when others do it.
2) When we are stopped by a policeman for a traffic violation, and he offers us a deal that makes the "challan" to him less than the "challan" to the government, we will prefer to give the challan to the government and not to the policeman, but of course others will not.
3) When we pay our taxes, we are honest in declaring our income and do not look for dubious ways to save it from going it to the government for maintainance of infrastructure. And other's save on their taxes, else it will fill the coffers of our corrupt politicians.
4) When we are driving following all the rules of the road, and an "idiot" cuts through in front of me, I stay calm and think that probably he/she needs to get somewhere fast. Of course, others will roll down their window, if it is not down already, and shout out a few choicest of words, or better still speed up and cut in front of him/her.
Can we "tolerate" and accept the laws and regulations however much we are inconvenienced? Rakesh pointed out how "intolerant" we have become of the advices given to us for our own good on the roads. Even though VP Sir joked about the "intolerance" on the forum, but then isn't it true that we reflect the general attitude of public, the same public on the roads-" trying to prove I am right and you are wrong because I am more aggressive than you, I am right and you are wrong because I have more people with me than you, I am right and you are wrong because I say so. We have become our own judge and jury and verdict is always "not guilty".
We have grown tolerant of violation of current laws, intolerant of people who do not follow "my rules of driving on road. Jit talked about the strict laws, and I agree. We not only need stricter laws but also strictly implemented, sparing none.
We tolerated "corruption" for years, feeding it till it became part of our own lives. We tolerated traffic law violations, and we gained the distinction of nation with 1.18 lakh/year fatalities on the roads. Till the new, more strict laws are made and implemented, can we atleast follow the current laws?
The root of the problem is this "tolerance". Wasn't India a slave for 200 yrs because Indians were tolerant? Today, aren't we tolerating this loot and plunder of money at the hands of politicians and business?
Coming to the topic, aren't we willingly tolerating the traffic woes, just because someone didn't planned the roads well or someone (influential) changed them, or because someone encroached upon them?
To give an example, today it took me 2 Hrs (door to door) to reach my office at Cyber city, Gurgaon from DLF Phase -1. This was because,
it took me one hour to cover a 2Km jammed stretch. The whole jam was due to a 10 meter potholed stretch which was partly submerged in water that was released by a construction company (IL&FS) constructing the private metro line.
A rough calculation estimates
one day's loss to the general public as approx
one crore. Mostly due to this 10 meter potholed strech and the construction company.
That's hard to believe. However, that's what these calculations tell.

Now compare this
one day loss with the cost of repairing this 10 meter stretch of road. Isn't this all because this company (IL&FS), which constructed and is responsible for this stretch of raod wants to save a few lakh's of rupees at the cost of coreres of public money? Surely somewhere someone would also be making money within the government.
But who cares, we Indians are tolerant. The action on Anna's movement this time will also give a good picture of this
tolerance. A simple lathi charge action shown on TV would be enough for us to keep us holed-up in our houses.
