Jit, do you think whatever US Congressmen say is a gospel truth? This is called commercial diplomacy. Their newly found love for Modi (after declaring him a bête noir) may be guided by their long-term business strategy with an eye on 'Advantage Gujarat' (or may be 'Advantage India' in their assessment). This is, however, not to prove Modi unworthy. If we are fair in our discussion, we must acknowledge that Modi is an able Administrator with a vision and has catalysed the pace of progress in Gujarat to a great extent. His leadership is, though, not the sole factor for progress. But the two main hurdles in his run up to the goal post, proving to be nightmarish for him are; (a) the party he is affiliated with, which has for wrong or right reasons earned a communal tag, that may prove to be a liability for him in the final run and (b) the communal carnage in Gujarat during his stewardship. Given the complexities of Indian politics, the run for the top job doesn’t seem to be as smooth as it has been made out to be by his diehard and computer savvy supporters on social media and elsewhere (including 4 diehard supporters on JL). Anyway, good luck to them and congrats to Mr. Modi in anticipation. Let me make it clear, that contrary to speculations in JL media, I am not at all allergic to Mr. Modi. I would, however, like to appeal to all the participants not to get flared up and indulge in oft-repeated offensive behaviour. Please raise the level of decency in discussion.
