Challenges and Chances before AAP

Actually, even a little summary is not needed in this case. Had Swaich named the Author, Naveen Chawala, that would have been enough. Naveen Chawala is a known congress stooge with close friendship with Gandhi family. He was blamed by then Chief Election Commissioner for reporting secret discussions of election commission to congress handlers.

Speaking based on data from WEB, he is a convert, sympathetic to Sonia (Over 200 non congress MPs across party lines seeked his removal ) and has had his own share of corruption charges while working as a bureaucrat.

Interesting!! It gives more credibility to AAP if someone, who has 'reportedly' been a stooge of Congress, takes pain to say a few nice words for it. Vikas, thanks for sharing this news. I hope you will not retort with the rhetoric that AAP is Congress's A B C or D Team. Sometimes, it helps enhance one's own credibility to show some humility and accept positive side of the adversaries.

One of these coups involve use of AAP, they have been doing this with the help of Raj Thakrey, Yeddi etc.

By winning without money power and muscle power, the AAP has become both a fascinating case study and an important benchmark in the movement toward clean elections

The importance of the Aam Aadmi Party’s stunning triumph in the recently concluded election to the Delhi Assembly goes beyond its impressive numbers (28 in an Assembly of 70). It even goes beyond its being able to form a government (albeit with outside support). Its greatest achievement lies in its being able to win a clean election, without having to resort to money and muscle power or without having to exhort caste, creed, class or religious loyalties. It kept its expenditure within the statutory limit (Rs.16 lakh for an election to the State Assembly of Delhi). That any candidate can win an election today within the limits set by law, even with the support of party cadres, is a fact to be applauded. But when a political party wins an election without breaking the election code in any significant respect, and that too under harsh media glare in the national capital, it is all the more remarkable. The AAP’s candidates, by all accounts, had very little money in their pockets. They, however, succeeded in raising largely small donations from within their neighbourhoods. Their example provides hope that there may actually be a way out of the spiral of vastly excessive election expenditure. For, in recent years, all parties having declared “winnability” to be their “mantra,” have usually ended up giving tickets to those wealthy enough to fund their own elections. In addition, muscle power, even criminality, has often been viewed as bonus points. Once caught in this spiral, most of our political parties have been unable to find a way out of this impasse. Surely, this is where the success of the AAP becomes both a fascinating case study and an important benchmark toward cleaner elections.
T......................................

(Navin B. Chawla is a former Chief Election Commissioner of India.)

In spite of collecting donations and funds from inside India and abroad just to fight 70 Delhi Assembly seats, AAP cannot claim to be angel among political parties.

Moreover, they know the power of money in elections which outsider sympathisers do not. This is proved by the fact that while declaring their intention to contest Lok Sabha elections, AAP spokes person divulged plan to raise at least Rs.100 crore fund in the coming days.

What Mr. B. Chawla, who remained in news for not so good acts prior to his appointment as CEC or anybody else has to say on it.

Under the circumstances it can safely be surmised that AAP knows the value of money power to contest and win the elections and is one with other contesting political parties and it is not of any 'different type' from them.

Rightly said sir, at the same time, the rise of AAP did help to bring issue of corruption, political hegemony and transparency as mainstream topics. But AAP is far from what they are preaching. Still, let us celebrate the positive, how so ever small it is.

AAP got much more than what was their due. Now, let them deliver and let's not waste our energy and votes by pushing for them as it will ultimately let the main culprit (congress) go scot free.

Good piece of advice !!!!

Rajpal ji, you are a learned person. Why repeat arguments from other before verifying them yourself? As per law, NRIs with Indian passport can donate to Indian political parties. AAP has revealed all its source of funding including those from NRIs. It has also received large sums from prominent citizens including businessmen, lawyers etc. But that is only 17%. The rest 83% has come from common people like me and you. For more details, please read the following links:
On NRI donation http://delhi.aamaadmiparty.org/page/nri-support-for-aap
On sources of funds http://indianexponent.com/53967/real-source-of-aap-funds-exposed-see-detailed-report.html

Its really funny to see everyone raise a hue and cry about AAP's sources of funds, when they readily ignore the lies of other political parties about being corruption free. Yes, govt is investigating AAP's funding. But what do you expect from a party that are running scared of AAP phenomenon.

I didn't see the author's name and yes, it does put the article into perspective. But no one can take away the fact that AAP fought the elections with fair methods and mass public support. With the same measures, they can easily gather the 100 crores. In fact I have already made my small contribution :)

That is a matter of opinion. I feel its a totally unexpected victory and should be capitalized upon.

If AAP gets a good number of seats in the LS elections, it will put both Congress and BJP in place. None of them is spot free.

"AAP fought the elections with fair methods and mass public support' and won 28 seats only out of 70 and contrary to its avowed promise to electorate formed the government with the help of its arc-rival Congress.

When mass public support was against the Congress why it has accepted the Congress support, it could have easily gone to the people immediately and faced the electorate ! Hunger for power or anything else could describe it !

Reality is it was a fractured mandate and AAP successfully manoeuvred political situation [fear of the Congress from BJP coming to power] to taste the power !

So AAP is as good alternative to Indian polity as any other Indian political party so far as ethics in politics is concerned.

That is why it is termed as Congress team B, as it fits in the calculation. True Both Congress and BJP are not spot free

I am at complete ease and only want to point out to the nature and results of outside support story of Congress to Shri Charan Singh, Shri Chander Shekhar and many more ! What is so special in Kejariwal that will change Congress game plan to pull him down as and when they feel to do so !!!

All in all the fact is revealed by the proverb that goes: closing eyes by pigeons does not blind the attacking cat!!!
Even if AAP gets 3-6 months, it can be good for AAP and general public. Hope for the best!

Dr. Rajpal Ji, these hackneyed statements and strident rhetoric of donations from NRIs have already lost their sensationalism and lustre because the conspiracy theorists, especially the 'righwingers', failed to manufacture anything convincing against the AAP. Moreover, are you sure other parties do not accept any donation from NRIs? I am asking just out of my academic curiosity, please don't mind.

Can all NAMO bhakts prepare a list of all congress stooges, or give us criterion to be called one? Will make job easy for everyone.

- Phool Kumar Malik
