The times are different hence the costs of the two cannot be compared properly.
To preserve heritage and culture large sums are spent over the globe by the Governments. Sardar Patel , the Deputy Prime Minister of india and a Freedom fighter of note, made merger of 562 native states into India possible which seemed impossible at that point of history. If this statute of Unity reminds the generations to come forges sense of belongingness to the basic values of Indian Freedom Movement and leads to greater sense of unity and harmony among the people and also develops as a Tourism destination the costs seems not too high !

Kadian bhai, probably rest of the amount will be arranged by Gujrat govt. This is a long term project and will help India in future. Kuch cheeze immediately utni achi nhi lagti hain, jitni wo hoti hain, unke long term benefits hote hain. In future, it might be a godd tourism place which gives substantial return in India's growth. Now, regarding 100 crores for women safety, probably, you remember that UPA govt. made Nirbhaya fund of 1000 crores but not a single rupee was spent. Fund banane se kuch ni hota, use dhang se implement karna important factor hai. Present govt. kitna implement kar paegi, ye time bataega.
Regarding inflation, tax has been reduced on all the items of basic necessity like edible oil, packaged food (it contains packaged flour also), medicines (most important), electronics items (jisse sale badh sake and economy ko growth mile). This is the first time that 500 crore fund has been sanctioned for inflation (atleast kuchh dhyan to dia, otherwise aap kisi congressi bhai se puchho ki last year jab onion price was Rs. 100/kg in Delhi tab govt neend se jaagi thi). This year, onion price is still between 20-25 /kg, jo 2, 3 months pehle bhi tha (hardly, a price rise of 5 to 10% up, I know because kai baar office se ghar jate hue market se sabzi le jata hoon). Inflation ki problem aisa ni hai ki abhi Modi govt aate hi bani hai, ye to bahut purani problem hai or itni jaldi kabu me ni aegi.
Salaried logo ko thodi rahat jarur mili hai, jinhone home loan le rakha hai unhe bhi kafi fayda dia hai. Isse bhi market me kuchh liquidity aegi and economy speed pakadegi. Baki to future me pata chalega ki 'uunt kis karwat baithta hai'. Baki bhai PPP and FDI to honi hi chahiye, sarkari log kaam na karte chahe kitna hi jor laga lo.
Agar bahut acha budget ni hai to nirash bhi nhi kia hai. Last 10 years me congress ne isse bhi kharab budget diye hain. First time tax slab me 1.5 lakh (50 k in tax, 50k in 80C, 50K in home loan interest) ki rebate di gai hai, otherwise kabhi bhi 20k se jyada ni milta tha wo bhi kai saalo me ek baar.
Baki bhai har kisi ko to khush kar ni sakte.

I too agree that 200 Cr should NOT be spent on a statue. All material and labor work will bring nothing to society. Even the statue will laugh on the lookers "how fool you are" !!
If a project to commemorate the contribution of the Great Freedom fighter and all time great home Minister is built, no amount of money is big. Moreover, the place will be developed as a heritage tourism destination which will make it possible to recover all the investment incurred in a short span of time. Hence the Statue of Unity Project dedicated to Sardar Patel must be completed without loosing much time.

जिन को सरदार पटेल की मुर्ति पर 200 करोड़ खर्च करना पैसे की बर्बादी लगता है उन महानुभावों को संभवतः पता नहीं कि केवल 46 मीटर की "statue of Liberty" से आज अमेरिका प्रति वर्ष 700 करोड़ कमाता है!
तनिक सोचिये कि जब केवल 46 मीटर की एक मूर्ति अमेरिका को 700 करोड़ दिलवाती है तो 180 मीटर की सरदार पटेल की मूर्ति से भारत सरकार को कितनी कमाई होगी?

Can't shameful indians spend even this amount per head for the memory of a man who brought warring indian states together and saved us of the huge money we would have been spending fighting each other? Think of similar projects in other countries and even in india in past. How about taj mahal, qutub minar, eifel tower, statue of liberty, bamyan buddha and 100s of others. Today they are the symbols of pride for the people of the area. Hypocrites would spend millions on a wedding and lacs on a birthday, but won't spare rs 1.60 for the memory of a man who gave india as we see it today. Shame on such people.

Could not make out who these so called "Some People" are. I wonder if these "Some People" raised even one finger when "Rajiv Gandhi Memorial, Sriperumbudur" was constructed ? Did India not have other priorities that time ? I am not able to get the exact cost incurred on Rajiv Gandhi Memorial. However, going through the pictures posted by a blogger (http://rahul-aggarwal.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-visit-to-rajiv-gandhi-memorial.html) I can easily put it to 100s of crores. Then you have Rajghat lined up with Nehru family memorials, all at exchequers cost. Why no words from pseudo liberals ? In my view Modi government is doing right and Rs 200.00 is peanuts for a country like India.
