It was very warm welcome by Indians in Australia to our PM, I felt happy to see prof , Nihal singh Agar, president Indian Australian community foundation, welcoming mr modi, but surprisingly hardly any khalsa present, except about 12 bhangra boys and four to six other sardars present, God knows what was the reason, I asked one khalsa who was next to my seat the reason but he changed the topic, Anyway we enjoyed the function, I met six ex-defance officers also and most important was that I found our country men very happy in Australia, I am here with my children since 13 oct and would be back to India on 13 jan 15

Modi isn't popular in the Sikh community in Punjab or abroad. Those politically aligned with the Akalis may support him, but in general the community has reservation about him. From what I gather, this is mainly due to the fears of the Hindutva cause espoused by the organizations that support him and his image of being an autocrat. Some NRI Sikhs I have spoken to see him as another version of Indira.

Since when Sikhs started looking at Hindus skeptically and please Indira was not a Hindu and believe me no one considers Sikh as different religion and last i heard was one of Pnach Pyaras was a Hindu Jat may be I am wrong , Sikhs can hate modi but i dont think reason to hate him is his religion , and Congrats Jaspreet :) may your daughter bring a lot of happiness in your life

Sumit bhai, I didnt say they hate Modi. I said they have reservations about him and he's not as popular in the community as it seems across the nation. And neither did I mean to say Sikhs hate Hindus. Its the Hindutva agenda which isnt appreciated. Hindus are different from Hindutva agenda and the latter doesn't represent the former.

That comment on Modi being like Indira is more around the autocratic nature and larger than life persona than anything else.

And thank you for your wishes. She has indeed brought a lot of happiness. :)

An interesting article on the topic, PM Modi in Australia read:

EVEN contrarians now admit that there has never been a visit quite like this by an Indian leader to Australia. Both in terms of style and substance. No one quite remembers the last time an Indian leader demonstrated this kind of chutzpah — an approach to leadership that is energising the diaspora and wowing audiences internationally. As he travelled across the East Coast of Australia, from Brisbane to Melbourne through Sydney and Canberra, Modi was accorded a reception that was unprecedented. One Australian commentator compared his aura and presence in Australian Parliament, where he became the first Indian leader to address both Houses, to a rock star!
But more significantly, together, Prime Ministers Abbott and Modi have transformed the bilateral relationship between their countries from one characterised by missed opportunities into a genuine strategic partnership. The long shadow of Cold War, India’s autarkic economic policies, the White Australia policy, and Canberra’s decision not to transfer uranium to India, had kept the two countries apart for several decades. But this is now history.

Down Under up and above on PM’s agenda
The Australia-India relationship is clearly an idea whose time has come, but it will require political nurturing before it acquires a momentum of its own. Fortunately, Modi and Abbott have bonded well.

Nice to see you Lamba Sahab on Jatland after a very long time.

How the moderators can allow exchange of such filthy conversation between the two members viz. His Highness Sir Satinder Goyat and His Excellancy Sir Fateh Singh Kharb? This is the height. Both the members deserve censorship for some time. Jatland is at its lowest ebb, perhaps. What a shame!! That is why Jat community is getting marginalized by other castes day by day. The great debacle in recent Haryana election is the logical and rightful corollary because you people really deserved it for your self-destructive attitude.

Unwarranted conversation... EGO is bigger than community reflections..

Not only the conversation was unwarranted, but the post also. Everyone knew about PM's visit to Australia through media. Such kind of posts are unavoidable and nothing more than self-publicizing exercise.

@ RKhatkarJi,

Wherever you are..

I recd your PM more than 1 hour back, and in a quick reply i again requested for deletion of posts.

Could we see some action? Time to prove members wrong that moderation is still active here and reported posts are acted upon.

Dear Satinder

Kardenge delete, ke tagaja se? Let other members also know that there is always limit to any debate ! You requested the mods to delete meant you realised or paid respect to the advice of other members! I think that is more important! Off course,I expected little more from you! Anyways, this incidence delivered a very important message, " ki Jat ki budhi ka 'Umar' se koi sambandh nahi"!

cheers!

Rajendra Ji,
Thanks for remembering me
I remind you all to at least congratulate the key people from our community, who organised the Modi program in Sydney
Also Modi has created so much interest in the overseas Indians that we are confident that good time is coming for India
