First time in the battle zone

FIRST TIME IN THE BATTLE ZONE: my encounter with God that did not happen I do not recall my feelings at that time or what was going through my mind. It is a total blank. A thought did pass through my mind at that time, It may sound funny or improbable to some but it is factual otherwise I would not have remembered it even after so long. With mortar bombs falling all around, a couple of casualties already in the HQ, the prevailing confusion and chaos and the attacking Chinese possibly very near with death or worse a serious injury happening any time being very much on cards, I did think of praying to God. Though God fearing I did not pray, nor do I now: immediately after the first a second thought came fleeting in, about the book of records up there of my deeds and miss-deeds, if any was being maintained, a prayer at that time would be the only entry and may be considered as a selfish action by an opportunist; an adverse entry on my report card. I quickly discarded the idea; in any case there was no time even for a silent prayer. Possibly my unsaid prayer did some how reach God otherwise I would have still remained ‘Missing in Action’ as I was soon to be declared by AG’s Branch at Army HQ.

Sir which god you are talking about, what were you doing when you got lost, I hope you still remember that faith in the super power, keeps you in balance during war, regards

Sir, may i request you to write in detail your views on god and about the battle you got lost, regards

If I am not mistaken the post seems to mention 1962 encounter with Chinese intruders and nature of his faith in the God has been made explicit in the very first post.

Feelings! I believe what Chankya has said, "God is not present in Idols! Your feelings are your God"! The soul is your temple! That could be really true for a soldier, how he feels in the battle field! Pure selfless feelings! ae watan ae watan , hamko teri kasam.... or ye dil mange More.Feelings! the supreme feelings for the supreme sacrifice for the motherland!

Cheers!

Sir

Some very 2 personal questions, you may choose to ignore sir! What were your feeling towards your wife and your parents? did you think about them? if at all you wanted to convey to any of them, what would you say? I mean, what were your feelings towards each of them? We have been listening the song that kind of romanticise the battle field, " Kar chale hum fida jano tan saathiyo, ab tumaahre hawaale watan saathiyio"! Did you remember feeling something like this?

Cheers!

Rajpal bhai, you are not understanding what I am asking, in 62 there were many battles/operations, he being signal officer, how he lost, I know what role signal officers play in battle, so it is batter that he should answer

OK Sir........................

all the questions asked have been answered in the two books I have written: "letters from the Border and Less Told Stories" and " A Soldiers Journey in Life With Two Wives' The Later is also available as an e book from http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/387577. 30 % free down lode.

There was no time to remember God all the time. I was worried about my parents back in the village with mother not being too well and waited every day for a letter from my wife back in Dehradun But all this was on the back burner with the job in hand on priority. I quote from the Preface of my book"Letters...."

Quote 'If the qualities required in a soldier, of being able to suppress his personal feelings and put the domestic problems on the back burner when duty demands get highlighted the purpose of this effort would have been amply served.' Unquote

Thanks for your friendly comments

Is it correct to buy and read your two books for a small question, regards

I do believe in God but do not follow any rituals.

No problem of buying the books as the books are out of print.

To clear the doubt

I was te Signal Officer of Seven Brigade deployed along and in the deep valley of the River Namkachu with the Chines troops on the massive Thagla ridge opposite.

We were attacek by the Chnesr early on the morning of 20 October 1962 in the process two of our battalions 1/9 Gurkhas and the 2 Rajputs suffered heavy casualties.

My story, an extract from my book, is as to what was happening in the Brigde HQ, especiall to me.

I was lucky and survived

Mortar shells were landing regulatory in the Brigade HQ resulting in two casualties.

I had two of my Radio operators with !/9 killed by the Chinese and the two with Rajputs by the shell landing on their bunker.
