National Herald founded, run and edited by Jawaharlal Nehru in pre-independence India and later on too as the Congress mouth piece had stopped publication a few years ago due to ' financial difficulties ' in spite of the fact that Trust [Associated Journals] running it possessed immoveable assets worth thousands of crores.
But on the taking over of the assets of Associated Journals by a newly flouted Young Indian Private Ltd., Subramanian Swamy smelt some foul playing and took up the case to court.
Now taking cognizance of the complaint Delhi court has summoned in addition to others Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi to present themselves before the Court. Both of them see in this court case a 'political vendetta' and have challenged the locus standi of the complainant S.Swamy.
The court has rejected both the arguments and has given a go permission to the court proceedings : ''The High Court noted that the financial probity of the party was at stake but observed that prima facie the case "evidenced criminality". The court noted that other shareholders of AJL were not involved in the decision making and those who were involved were the office-bearers of the Congress and were majority shareholders in YIL.''
Be what ever be the fate of the case without in publication, National Herald is again in news and is likely to remain so for a long time to come.
