It is promising that Salman chosen Haryanvi as language of communication for his role as SULTAN. Had a JAT feeling after watching the trailer. Hope it will boost moral of wrestlers of India/world.

He tried but failed to get the right Haryanvi accent....same applies to Anushka...Kangana Ranuat had successfully adopted the accent and sounded as a native speaker would do.

Haryana is best in India in wrestling (though to be honest I want to say that Delhi's wrestlers are best in India), but it is not more than an exaggeration that Haryana have shown 'great performance' at international level. If with no gold on world level Haryana have shown 'great performance' at international level, then what name should be given to Russian or Japanese wrestlers who rule the wrestling world? Better you have said 'promising' in place of 'great'.
And as far as 'Sultan' movie is concerned I have not heard any Muslim wrestler from Haryana- Sultan Ali Khan, Haryane ka sher...ha ha ha...Bollywood is great.

Bollywood started focussing on Haryana after good Haryanvi show at 2010 Commonwealth Games. Bollywood earlier have focussed on Bihar, Punjab and Rajasthan too. When Amitabh Bachchan was on top then mostly Bollywood movies were based upon East UP culture. These days mostly movies are based upon Haryana, though Punjab too, but they have devastated the Hindi music industry I think.

Thanks for sharing medal tally. Surprisingly countries with less population than even one state of India have won so many Gold and India could not even secure 1 Gold Medal. Corruption, malpractices, poor diet, malnutrition, poor infrastructure to name a few. India being such a populous country still searching for 1 Gold. What a sad state of affairs.

I don't think corruption, malpractices, poor diet, malnutrition, poor infrastructure etc. are the main reasons behind this fiasco. Notice this fact that there are around 200 countries in this world, but only 50-60 countries succeed in making it to the medal table of Olympics or World Championships of any game. Does it mean 75% countries are down with above mentioned problems? No.
Australians are so strong and robust and there is no corruption, malpractices, poor diet, malnutrition, poor infrastructure etc there, but still they have not done well in wrestling. Why? Because they didn't develop wrestling culture there. What they developed then? They developed Hockey and Cricket and they are finest and best in the world in these games.
We Indians couldn't develop sports culture here except Cricket and that is the main reason. Mostly parents fear to send their kids in sports from the childhood. Though now this trend is changing, but not as fast as it should have been. Some decades back China was nowhere in sports, but now they are among the sports giants. Were they facing above mentioned problems earlier? In my opinion 'no'. In fact they were not taking the sports seriously and when they took, made the world wonder.

I blv we cannot compare to China at all in the sports world. Our sportsman have a decent educational background alongwith sports. Sports in china is taken very seriously & kids begin at the tender age of 5-6 years what i heard from a chinese friend. The kids who go for sports in china do not have any education more than 3rd, 4th class. Even the govt. agencies take care of poor kids who excel in various sports. But, then everything comes at a cost. These communists do not shy away from torturing these kids & the pressure they face is enormous. In terms of medals, i blv China beats even the western countries.

Talking sports culture, yes you are right to an extent. But one can also look into India's cricket performance abroad. That too, its most popular game in the country. There are so many factors which play a bigger part. Even when you talk about Australia, Canada, have a look at how many medals they get every year in the Olympics. In India sportsmen do not get fair trail for example this one:

Pinki Jangra slams Mary Kom, alleges her trial for World Boxing was fixed

Haryana boxer Pinki Jangra feels Indian boxing's ad-hoc committee and AIBA ambassador Mary Kom have crushed her hopes of clinching a ticket for the Rio Olympics.

and another:

Frustrated and disgusted with sports ministry's treatment of players: Olympic participant Seema Punia

P.S: Itne dhakke, thapede, aur kadam kadam par harzron tarah ki pareshaniyon, low level ki politics ke bavjood medal aate hain. Hats off to these heroes!

Haryana-born wrestler Dahiya to represent Australia at Rio Olympics

http://www.rediff.com/sports/report...resent-australia-at-rio-olympics/20160426.htm

Indian origin wrestler Vinod Kumar Dahiya is all set to represent Australia at the Rio Olympics after qualifying in the 66kg weight category in the Greco-Roman event.
26aus-dahiya.jpg

The 31-year-old grappler secured an Olympic berth after winning a silver medal at the African/Oceania Olympic qualifiers in Algeria.

Vinod, originally hailing from a small village of Khanda in Haryana, became a citizen of Australia last year and is now all set to make his debut at the Rio Olympics in August.

Following in the footsteps of his elder brothers, Vinod started wrestling at age of eight. Seeing his potential, Vinod's family sent him to Mahabali Satpal's wrestling academy in New Delhi in 1998.
Thereafter, he participated in state and national competitions for four years. He also competed in the popular Indian sport of dirt wrestling.
Vinod migrated to Australia in 2010, where he started training at the United Wrestling Club under former Wresting Australia President, Kuldip Bassi.
Based in Victoria, Vinod has so far claimed six national championships and countless medals at the Australia Cup and Canberra Cup tournaments.
He represented the green and gold for the first time at the Oceania Championships in New Zealand in March, where he bagging the gold medal.

P.S: People are earning the Olympic berth from other countries but a fair trail in India, not sure.

India and sport: Noble failure or lack of will?

Lack of talent hot-housing is one common excuse. The Indian government spends US$181 million a year on sports and youth affairs; China has recently put an estimated US$3 billion into each Olympic team. Then there's the "ineptitude" of India's administrators running many sports bodies as personal fiefdoms, characterised by nepotism and corruption.

Some man's loss is another man's gain. It may be corruption for you, but for MC Mary Kom supporters it is neat and clean process. You don't confine yourself to Haryana only. There is corruption, because a Haryanvi Pinki Jangda couldn't go to the world championships but there is no neat and clean process if another Haryanvi Sonia Lather won silver there. There is corruption because Sushil Kumar is being denied a trial, but there is no neat and clean process if he was given a chance to win medals in Olympics twice. It is a biased mindset.
As far as Indian cricket team is concerned, India is among strong cricketing nations, 2 time ODI world champions, 1 time T20 world champions, 2 time ICC champions trophy winner. Only world titles matter most. In current players Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are really world class. Best in world.

This guy Hamish McDonald is just venting out his frustration about India. Someone should ask him why USA, Russia, China, Japan, Australia like sports powerhouses are zero in football? Why their US$ billions of billions don't work in this most popular game of the globe and why a India type country Brazil is so good in this game? Gripped with malnutrition, starvation and poverty world champion African athletes may also be cited here.

I am not sure what you are trying to say here but players from these countries like USA, Russia etc. are playing in the best football leagues all across Europe. USA have qualified in each world cup since 1990.Football is still developing in USA and China. China is buying good players from South America and Europe clubs.
Not only Brazil but most of the countries in South America are good footballing sides. Football is part of their culture and life. why Haryana produces more athletes than any other state of India?

Malnutrition, starvation and poverty blocks the large scale development of sports. In india its not only malnutrition and poverty but politics also. Every sports body chief in india is linked to politics in one way or other. Sportsmen and athletes are discriminated based on cast and gender.

I am trying to say that budget is not the main reason if India can't do well in sports. I am not talking about football leagues, I am talking about world titles. All these countries are zero in football despite spending so called billions of dollars. And none of the most famous current footballers like Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo is from the mentioned countries.
Don't mind but it seems you have also confined yourself to Haryana only. See the medal tally of last national games and then say why Haryana produces more athletes than any other state of India.

Yeah how may of them go to Olympics and win medals? Most of the services guys hails from Haryana and Punjab. Looking at the population and medal ratio you can easily tell why Haryana. But anyway you are right its not about Haryana only.

Not winning medals does not mean you should stop spending money on that sports. I agree budget is not the single main reason but it can make the difference to achieve 20 gold medals from 1. It takes generations to develop skills in sports. One need to create infrastructure and philosophy not only state level or national level but at youth level like schools and universities. Belgium invested heavily in youth development couple of decades back and now they are the 2nd in FIFA ranking. Though they did not win any medals or world titles but their players are wanted by every top club in world.
