happy new year may god fulfill all your plans for the year
Thanks a lot for your reply, sir. Nice to see your post. And the cover I could guess a little bit but not exactly.Anyway, I found it a pretty good logic to be a cover and its explanation.
Your new book cover, the one whose pic is in your album, is quite confusing to me. Could you please share what those rounds and circles are. That image looks like a maze to me or is it a map?
Hello sir, just now i was going through your album. There was a pic in which you are with your father. After my comment you appended another comment in which you mentioned the year your father passed away and even his plans to visit your place in Ranchi. This whole thing forced me to think about human relations. Years gone but still it looks so fresh in the memories.

Also, what are all these photograps, I mean what is the speciality? Are they clicked by you or your close ones are in the pics?
That 'village one' and 'feudals one' I like most.
i think I have already posted this some where. However, what the book is about is as under the book :

    A Soldier’s Journey through Life

The reader joins the author in his ‘Journey through Life’ some times in 1935-36, following him through the simple ways of life in Western UP villages as perceived by a child of five and six, then to Delhi of yore and the small towns of the province. He feels the cultural shock of the move to Lucknow in the 50’s and the freewheeling life in the university is introduced to the new concept of 'Love at Far Site. Next on to Indian Military Academy at Dehradun in the foothills of Shiwaliks with its dreaded Drill Square and the Obstacle Course, passing-out with the proud but shaky 2nd Lieutenant to face the pains of growing up in the post Independence Army, a blend of the British traditions and the Indian value system. Soon the reader is introduced with the new 'Babbler', post facing the young officer’s 'Love at First Sight', feels the pangs of separation in married life, resulting from combat service and soon the uncertainties to life and limb, during the 1962 Sino-Indian Conflict, on entering the 'Valley of Death'. As the author climbs his career ladder, the reader has a chance to look at the intricacies of Command and Staff at Army HQ and the student – instructor relationship in a service environment, so different from traditional institutions. The reader is saddened watching the author's trauma on being a helpless witness to his wife's tenacious fight with cancer, with his only partly successful efforts, to minimise her pains through the long struggle, culminating in her untimely demise, finally to sympathise with his efforts to cope with remorse, pain and guilt of living without her. bls31

The safety, honour and welfare of your country comes first, always and every time.
The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next.
Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time.

Each and every one of us who passes out of IMA is supposed to live by what is engraved at the most prominent place in the Chetwode Hall, and most of us do.

I did not wish and do not want to get involved in a controversy.

Those who are more worried about Jawans and also more knowledgeable about them are welcome to start a fresh thread.

No one is more worried about the Jawans that the officer who command and leads them. Can an officer lead if he does not command the respect of his men. How is it that I brought out my 43 Jawans back to safety from the Jaws of Death or possiblely, worse, a stay in Chinese prisoner of war camps some where in Tibet back in 1962 as a Captain. It was only due to mutual trust and faith, belief in the leadership and the un-questionable loyalty of the Jawans. It hurts deep within , even now after 23 years of leaving army, when I read derogatory remarks about the various components of the services by those having only surface knowledge about Army, its ethos and more importantly, self esteem that each one lives by .

If you feel I also ,like all defence officers lack courage to face criticism, you may be correct in your perception. However, no one complaint about my courage on field when I had to face the enemy or the courage of conviction when I had to face the superiors off field while while protecting my command. Unfortunately such discussions sink to 'Me' verses 'Them'.

I have not enjoyed writing all this ,especially quoting about myself as it may appear like blowing my own trumpet, but sadly I was provoked by the remark.

Once again I am sorry if I have hurt some ones sentiments.

I am under the impression that this group is designed to discuss Art, and Artists and it provides a platform to exibit their works of Painting and Photographs, possibly controversial subjects can be thrashed on other forums of Jat land. Brig lakshman

Dear Sir, not fair. A good discussion was going on about the pathetic conditions of Jawans and instead of participating, you requested for closure of thread.I think no defece officer has courage to face healthy criticism and replying for queries raised by Satinder.
