He, however, requested the President and the Prime Minister to intervene into the matter. In a statement, JD(U)’s national general secretary and spokesperson KC Tyagi said, “Our party condemns Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s attempt of rescinding the state Assembly’s unanimous resolution to name Chandigarh airport on the name of Bhagat Singh.” He accused that the Chief Minister has been insisting on “naming the airport on Late Mangal Sen - a one-time diehard RSS Pracharak of Haryana”.The JD(U) leader lamented that the move of he BJP-led Haryana government “has not only insulted martyre Bhagat Singh, but also the whole of Punjabi society”. Any such attempt of “saffornisation at the cost of Bhagat Singh will hurt the sentiments of crores of Indians, he added. He said, “Keeping the values of Bhagat Singh alive, the JD(U) requests the honourable President and Prime Minister of India to intervene into the matter.”Questioning the “mind-set” of the Central and the state government and their respect for the sacrifices of legendary figure of freedom struggle, Tyagi said, “The Chandigarh airport geographically lies in Punjab and Haryana both. But, by proposing the name of the airport on a Haryana-based RSS Pracharak, it is hurting all those who love Bhagat Singh, including family members of the freedom fighter.”Noting that there is no comparison between the contributions of Bhagat Singh and Mangal Sen, the socialist leader said, “Hardly anybody out of Haryana, knows the contributions of Sen, But, Bhagat Singh’s legacy is well known in the whole world.”
