2G scam, Raja, Media, Radia and tapes

It has been in news for a while now. The infamous 2G scam led A. Raja to leave the chair, it was no surprise though. I have been following up this issue for long time now but the Radia tapes have more serious revelations than the scam itself. It reveals a nexus between corrupt politicians, businessmen and the top media brass. The Barkha Dutts, the Veer Sanghvis and others who present themselves top class journlists are deeply involved in all wrong doings at top level. People believe these journos like anything. People made Barkha Dutt hero(ine) at NDTV.
Corruption is present everywhere not matter what but the question is what happened to the 4th pillar of the democracy?
Where is Barkha Dutt now? I read her clarification as well on the ndtv site but it was not convincing. It seems that these people work as mediators and get huge benefits. Some time back, here at JL, some one was accusing Barkha Dutt that she was getting huge money from foreign countries.

I was little surprised also to see that no one discussed it at JL. Are we becoming tolerating to this kind of news/scams? Do we take it as normal as it happens every other day? Are too busy with other issues that we dont have time?

Regards.

Indian public's forgiving quality is supreme in every way. They go in to a five years coma after practising their suffarage.

Barkha Dutt is the product of over-ambitious ''holier than thou'' media mindset. I am glad that her hypocrisy has exposed. Her pebbles are put back in to her own mouth. She is not a journalist rather a commentor with average wit. Veer Sanghvi atleast can be given a rep for his acceptance but this Dutt is completely loggerhead. I pity on guys who idiolise people like Burkha Dutt. She can't get away with it [ as she might ve thought] even being a woman.

Neera Radia episode is good. Ratan Tata has indicated few days back about demanding of corruption for his Aviattion plans; I am sure he has sensed that his hypocrisy has been taped in the form of Radia and 2G Scam. He played a smart Kaag prior to tape leaks about corruption but backfired by Supreme court.

Raja, What a weak show by PM ? Supreme court had to come in scene to ask him. Raja has explored full rights assinged to him to eat out maximum he can in a cabinet portfolio.

PS: Jakhar ji please mind to put transcripts of leaked tapes conversations of these pimps.

Niira Radia: Hello?

A. Raja: Raja here

Niira Radia: Hi! I got a message from Barkha Dutt just now

A. Raja: Huh?

Niira Radia: Barkha Dutt

A. Raja: What does she say?

Niira Radia: She says… that she has been following up the story with Prime Minister’s Office tonight. In fact, she was the one who told me that Sonia Gandhi went there. She says that he has no problem with you, but he has a problem with Baalu

A. Raja: …but it has to be discussed with Leader

Niira Radia: yeah, yeah… he has to discuss with the Leader. He has to tell…

A. Raja: It will be discussed in the morning… why unnecessarily Congress… [indiscernible] tie-up is going out

Niira Radia: No, but then the question is about Azhagiri, no?

A. Raja: Huh?

Niira Radia: Azhagiri’s people are saying: why is Maran getting Cabinet when he is such a senior leader himself?

A. Raja: That is different, but all these things must be explored and disclosed

Niira Radia: That’s right. That’s right. I told her to get Congress…

A. Raja: At least, one to one, let it be disclosed to Leader

Niira Radia: One to one?

A. Raja: One to one. Somebody should give a message, at least in a sealed cover, that we are having serious problems to Baalu

Niira Radia: From Congress, right?

A. Raja: Yes

Niira Radia: Okay, I’ll tell her. She is talking to Ahmed Patel, so I will talk to him

A. Raja: Let him [sic] call at least over phone: Sir, this is problem… we are having high regard, we are having no problem with Raja, but problem is Baalu. Tell.

Niira Radia: Then how will you resolve the other problem?

A. Raja: Other problems we will take care of slowly, because now Leader comes down

Niira Radia: Uh huh.

A. Raja: Don’t worry

Niira Radia: Now Leader comes down to three, no?

A. Raja: Comes down for [sic] three…

Niira Radia: Yeah

A. Raja: Even you are saying that Maran is not fit for infrastructure… he is having controversy… alright, let him be accommodated in the existing ministry… at least we will suggest

Niira Radia: Maran?

A. Raja: Hmm… you suggest, you send a message

Niira Radia: Uh, huh

A. Raja: Okay

Niira Radia: Okay

#3 Barkha Dutt

******************
Barkha Dutt: Hi Niira

Niira Radia: Hi, did I wake you up?

Barkha Dutt: No, no, no. I’ve been up, yaa, most of the night. The stalemate continues, yaa.

Niira Radia: Yeah. Listen, the thing is that they need to talk to him directly. That is what the problem is.

Barkha Dutt: Apparently now, the message from the other side is, that why did he go? Why did Baalu [T.R. Baalu, former DMK minister] go public? They claim that at this point will they had offered him this formula and this guys said, “no”. This guys never told them they were going to withdraw support. Not withdraw support. But outside support. Apparently, PM was really pissed off ' cause they had went public.

Niira Radia: But that’s Baalu’s doing, naa… he was not instructed by Karunanidhi to do that.

Barkha Dutt: Oh, he wasn’t?

Niira Radia: This is not. He was told to come away and tell Congress that.

Barkha Dutt: And he went public

Niira Radia: Well, the media… media, the media was standing outside.

Barkha Dutt: Oh God. So now what? What should I tell them? Tell me what should I tell them?

Niira Radia: I’ll tell you what it is—the problem and I have had a long chat with both his wife and with the daughter, right?

Barkha Dutt: Haan, haan.

Niira Radia: The problem is if the Congress has a problem with Baalu, if they have no problem with anyone. They need and go talk to Karunanidhi. They have very good relationship with Karunanidhi directly.

Barkha Dutt: Correct, haan.

Niira Radia: Because you see, in front of Baalu, in front of Maran, they can’t talk.

Barkha Dutt: Yeah

Niira Radia: So they have to tell him directly, there [are] enough Congress leaders in Tamil Nadu. They need to go in and tell him exactly—the biggest problem is that the following of Azhagiri is saying that you cannot give Maran a cabinet post and keep Azhagiri in the MoS state.

Barkha Dutt: That’s right. But will Karuna drop Baalu?

Niira Radia: He… look, if you tell him that Baalu is the only problem. I would imagine, he will drop him.

Barkha Dutt: But you see the problem right now is also over the choice of portfolios, naa…

Niira Radia: No. They’ve not said anything. The portfolios have not even got discussed.

Barkha Dutt: Congress claims, for whatever it’s worth, that the DMK wanted surface transport, power, IT, telecom, railways and health.

Niira Radia: Wo tho pehle se list gaya tha

Barkha Dutt: Haa, abhi Congress has offered IT, telecom, chemical, fertilizer and labour

Niira Radia: Yes

Barkha Dutt: So this is where it’ll stand off. Will DMK accept all (or both)?

Niira Radia: Maybe no, because they have to drop Maran if you want them to be accept… Maran is wishing coal and mine.

Barkha Dutt: Who’s wishing?

Niira Radia: Now Maran is saying, you give me coal and more mine. If he.. my honest advice to… is that you need to tell them… tell him directly that we are happy because Kani (M.K.Kanimozhi, Karundanidhi's daughter) got no issue about being even as independent but Azhagiri is now telling her that you cannot take an independent charge if Maran remains cabinet minister. And congress is sending messages through media and through various sources saying that… Maran is going around telling everyone that he is the only acceptable person.

Barkha Dutt: Ya, ya, ya. That I know.

Niira Radia: But that’s not correct na?

Barkha Dutt: No, I know and we’ve (NDTV) have taken that off… We’ve have taken that off.
Niira Radia: But also… Congress needs to tell Karunanidhi that we have not said anything about Maran

Barkha Dutt: OK. let me talk to them again

Niira Radia: Yeah? The choice of candidate we will leave to you. We have some reservation about Baalu. And let them tell the reservation. And we have not said anything about Maran. We are not asking…

Corruption is present everywhere not matter what but the question is what happened to the 4th pillar of the democracy?
The 4th pillar is also exercising democracy. The democracy to loot. Why would it lag behind all other pillars?

I was little surprised also to see that no one discussed it at JL. Are we becoming tolerating to this kind of news/scams?
Yes. Isn't this required for adaption?
Do we take it as normal as it happens every other day?
Offcorse, that's the defination of normal. Where are the doubts?
Are too busy with other issues that we dont have time?
Not sure of what other things are, however, who has got time? Time is a scarce and costly resource.

It is an open secret that totally commercialized and profit oriented media works hand in glove with the corrupt politics. Politicians and Media Barons have a joint venture (India Inc.) wherein media works behind the stage crafting out all political manoeuvrings of king making. People have reconciled to their fate and have accepted this unholy alliance. There is hardly any print/electronic media group which is working without any political bias and ulterior motives. The only difference is that Vir Sanghvi (a known Congressite) and the Baroness Barkha have been exposed and the others are yet to be exposed. But this is a good beginning of the exposé. I had a good opinion about Barkha but feel disappointed after this episode.

Supreme court on 2G spectrum:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CBI to file first charge sheet in 2G Spectrum scam by March 31, Supreme Court told.

Supreme Court asks Govt to constitute special court exclusively for dealing with 2G spectrum case.

Supreme Court favours CBI probe should also cover culpability of beneficiaries of the scam as they are part of larger conspiracy.

Apex court says CBI must have free hand to question anyone. It appears that their freedom is curtailed as it is seeking short remand of the accused.

We have large number of persons who think themselves to be law. Law must catch them. Merely their being in the list of Forbes or millionaires does not make difference: says SC.

CBI and Enforcement Directorate place the status report about the progress of the investigation into the case till date.

CBI says it will complete the investigation into the Spectrum allocation between 2001 and 2006 by May 31.

Apex court asks CBI to tell who are the conspirators in the scam and place the charge sheet before it ahead of filing it before the Special court.

Supreme Court directs that no other court shall pass any order in connection with the 2G Spectrum case which may impede investigation.

Former Telecom Minister Arun Shourie revealed here today that the moment he got to know how big the A Raja spectrum scam was, he apprised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of it and, subsequently, alerted the then CBI director as well.
Speaking at Idea Exchange, a newsroom interaction with the staff of The Indian Express and The Financial Express, Shourie said that not only did he tell the PM, he even introduced the CBI to a key informant who, he claimed, knew each detail of who paid how much, how it was paid, which the front companies were, and so on.
All of this happened towards the middle and the end of 2009, Shourie said.
Two years earlier, Shourie said, both the PM and Pranab Mukherjee had summoned then TRAI chief Nripendra Misra who had told them Raja was wrong to claim that he was going by TRAI’s recommendations.
“A person very close to the deals started giving out a detailed account of all the companies that received undue favour”, Shourie said declining to name the individual. “Armed with those details (of front companies), I met the PM in the Rajya Sabha around August-September 2009...I told the PM showing him details and papers in the Rajya Sabha corridor. Please have a look at these details. There is a loot going on in your name and all the evidence is here,” Shourie said.
He said that he then asked the PM if he could call on Principal Secretary T K A Nair to give these details. When no call came for over a month, “I contacted the then CBI Director Ashwini Kumar. Despite receiving death threats, the individual I introduced was ready to give out all the information..

Supreme court on 2G spectrum:

Judiciary in India is a puppet company. Every chair has an attached price for enacting a drama. I won't be surprised if this also comes out to be a drama.

The statements like "Apex court says CBI must have free hand to question anyone. It appears that their freedom is curtailed as it is seeking short remand of the accused." are surprising. Does the SC has power to give CBI a free hand? Isn't this known to the judges? What is being achieved by giving these statements?

PS: I do believe that there are still some honest people in judiciary, however, such people are seldom given such high profile cases. They mostly land up with the cases where both the parties either incapable or have not attached any price.

i am just expressionless after seeing the exponential progressive approach of the corrupt leaders to loot this country and i m sad media supporting these acts,, and I am ashamed of having such a spineless PM in my country and I PRAY FOR THE DOWNFALL OF CONGRESS ,,,.,,,!!!
and simultaneously thinking of which PARTY should be in power....I DON'T SEE ANY OPTION OTHER THAN BJP in near future.

and there should be a system by which people can pull over support from government if its not performing or seems in capable..!!!
I heard a lot about Barkha dutt but she is a moron,,!!!

Karuna's daughter Kanimojhi likely to be questioned by CBI!

The heat is now reaching to Karuna family. CBI under direct control of the Supeme Court seems (though I do not like to use this word) to be doing a better job.

Karunanidhi is next??

The CBI investigations takes the 2G scam to the Karunanidhi family, the Tatas, Unitech, Ambanis and many more. See the below articles in "outlook". Does it reach to the Gandhis and others too?

Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu Ammal and daughter Kanimozi were questioned by CBI today, widening its probe in 2G scam.

http://news.outlookindia.com/item.aspx?714721

Is the probe is going in right direction now?

Absolutely! Isn't it similar to how the Congress got support of BSP in the no confidence vote and forced it to be part of UPA (outside support)? What else could have made DMK change it's stand on seat sharing? How else could have LK Advani apologized (and gone against the party) to Sonia? Or was putting the Babri Majisd case in supreme court by CBI just co-incidental?

However, surprisingly (for sake of just saying), no one has questioned Delhi CM in connection with CWG scam.Isn't CBI a big, powerful danda which is being used to discipline opposition?

New formula goes soft on Kanimozhi at Raja’s expense

Iftikhar Gilani
New Delhi

The Congress has blinked in the power tussle with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), which had threatened on 5 March to pull out from the UPA2 government.

Almost at the last minute, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is understood to have told his troubleshooter, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, that he must do all he can to save the Congress-DMK alliance.

Consequently, a deal was hammered out suggesting that DMK head M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi would not be arrested in the 2G spectrum case. Mukherjee’s call was received by Kanimozhi who translated it for her father and reported back his views. Both sides got engaged in hectic consultations at different levels to resolve the impasse.

This didn’t go down too well with Congressmen close to party president Sonia Gandhi, who were trying to rope in the Samajwadi Party.

Apparently, the Prime Minister’s message to Mukherjee was that though he has no love lost for the DMK, he wanted the party back on board. He is understood to have told Mukherjee to get talking to DMK leaders at all levels to sew things up. This was a reversal of roles. Until yesterday, the Congress party was keen on patching up with the DMK while the Prime Minister was reluctant.

Singh's intervention came hours after Sonia’s political secretary Ahmed Patel had already called Samajwadi Party head Mulayam Singh Yadav to take his party along in the union government in place of the DMK.

Apparently, the Prime Minister was not enthusiastic about having Mulayam Singh Yadav in the government.

A section of the Congress leaders wanted the party to look beyond Tamil Nadu where they see Jayalalithaa's AIADMK winning the May election. They lobbied with 10 Janpath to convert the adversity into an opportunity and tie-up with Mulayam.

This group is keen on a Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance fighting the next Uttar Pradesh election. They think the Congress cannot win even 50 seats on its own.

But there appears to have been rethinking on this after a message went through that going it alone might work better for the Congress. Also, general secretaries Rahul Gandhi and Digvijaya Singh are apparently not sure about how things may pan out in Uttar Pradesh.

On finding that the PM was not ready to listen to arguments on why the Congress should not yield to the DMK's blackmail, Mukherjee called former union minister TR Baalu and followed it up with two calls on Monday to Karunanidhi.

The DMK has six union ministers, Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister MK Alagiri, Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran, and four ministers of state, SS Palanimanickam (Finance), S Jagathrakshakan (Information and Broadcasting), D Napoleon (Social Justice and Empowerment) and S Gandhiselvan (Health and Family Welfare).

Mukherjee first held consultations with Sonia Gandhi in Parliament House and then spoke to the Prime Minister and Home Minister P Chidambaram before putting out a call to Karunanidhi.

Officer in Pranab’s ministry accused of scuttling 2G probe

Whistleblower complainant tells Supreme Court that many accused are being protected

Ashish Khetan
New Delhi

In a new twist to the ongoing 2G saga, an anonymous whistleblower from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has written to the Supreme Court of India that the office of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has instructed ED Director AK Mathur to scuttle the investigation into the spectrum allocation scam.

The whistleblower has annexed copies of as many as twenty-three summons, which the ED Delhi Zonal Office had issued to over two dozen suspects in the first week of January under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The anonymous whistleblower has claimed that soon after these summons were issued, Mathur instructed the ED officers who were in-charge of the investigation to go slow in the case and ensure that the suspects were not put through any investigation except cursory questioning.

The complaint dated 7 February 2011 names a senior bureaucrat in Mukherjee’s office and alleges that this officer had specifically instructed Mathur to go slow against the three Jain brothers—Mahesh Jain, Daulat Jain and Rajesh Jain—who are suspected hawala operators and are accused of transferring more than Rs 2,000 crore of bribe money.

The Jains are accused of transferring the money to Chennai and countries like South Africa, Singapore and Malaysia on behalf of former telecom minister A Raja and other senior functionaries of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

A copy of the summons annexed show that the three Jain brothers were asked to appear before the ED on 15 February.
