Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we will redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance .... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again."
Jawaharlal Nehru (Speech on Indian Independence Day, 1947).

On 15 August 1947, India attained freedom from the British Rule. Every year, August 15 is celebrated as the Independence Day in India. And this year also India is going to celebrate its 62th Independence day.

The Independence Day of any country is a moment of pride and glory. On this special occasion, rich tributes are paid to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives and fought to free their motherland from the clutches of the oppressors - British who ruled the country

The pioneers of the freedom movement were Mangal Pandey, Tantia Tope, Rani of Jhansi and the great Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi who introduced non-violent ways of fighting the enemy. Other notable freedom fighters of India are Annie Besant, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bhagat Singh, Bipin Chandra Pal, Sukhdev, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Chandrashekhar Azad, Sarojini Naidu, Dadabhai Naoroji, Sucheta Kriplani and Chakravarti Rajagopalachari.(kindly add names to this list...if you have any)

Even after that many times intruders tried to capture some parts of India but failed. Salute to our proud soldiers for that. So every one do stand up once and salute our heroes for the freedom we enjoy every day. Thanks to all of the three forces, army ,navy and air force.

A SPECIAL SALUTE TO the martyr of 62,65,73 and Kargil.

I wish a very Happy Independence Day to all and feel proud to be an Indian.

WE RECAPTURED OUR LAST HILL FROM PAKISTAN, BUT WE LOST OUR MOST VALUABLE, GREAT WARRIORS, BRAVE BROTHERS.
TODAY IT’S TIME TO REMEMBER THEM

This Saturday on 15th August 2009 India will be celebrating its 62nd Independence Day. After a long and arduous battle against British Rule, India gained its Independence on 15th August 1947 but for this Independence we fellow Indians had to pay very heavy price i.e. India was divided into two countries India and Pakistan, two well known enemy neighbor countries. Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day on 14th August and India on 15th August.

Innumerable sacrifices not even mentioned in the history were made to gain this freedom but now it only means “ek aur chutti” (one more holiday) to us. We have cultivated a mindset of checking in the calendar “pandhraah august ki chutti kab hai iss saal” (this year 15th August holiday is on which day?). And if it is on weekend, “**** ek chutti maari gayi” (**** one holiday has been deprived :( )

Let me ask you few questions?

Is this what 15th August Independence Day means to us now?

How many of us bother to wish each other “Happy Independence Day” either by phone, sms or card?

Sing National Anthem on 15th August or 26th January?

Tell our kids about the significance of this big day and the sacrifices made?

Salute our National Flag or watch parade or flag hosting?
Exchange sweets (if we can do it on Eid, Diwali, Christmas, etc then why not on 15th August)?

How many of us know complete Hindi syllables क् ख् ग् घ् ड़् चवर्ग- च् छ् ज् झ् ञ् ...? (But we all know English syllables by heart)

If you ask someone “its been how many years since we gained Independence?” that person will calculate and then answer.

So are we really Independent?

If anything goes wrong “sarkar kuch nai kartti hai desh aur janta ke liye” (Government does not do anything for the country and the common man) and other innumerable complaints but do we ever ask ourselves what we have done for the country or for our other fellow Indians or environment?

I’ll like to share one small incident here. Last year on Independence Day, I saw one woman wearing tri colored suit (white shirt, green salwar and saffron duppatta). I was really impressed by her patriotism and complemented her for the same. Recently stores and malls have started giving Independence Day discount but I doubt whether its patriotism or yet another marketing funda……..

For the last 1 week you might be seeing hawkers selling National Flag on the traffic signals but hardly anyone bothers to buy it. And if someone does then he’ll / she’ll start bargaining “nai nai 30 Rs ka nai 15 Rs ka do” (no no its not for 30 Rs give it in 15 Rs) but let me ask you “Is our National Flag that cheap?" that we can bargain and get it. For me its PRICELESS. How about You?

Very gud start VJ
Its our pleasure that we r breathing in free india.....all with efforts of so many brave freedom fighters n soliders ........
I Salute all of the great warriors who faught 4 the freedom n for keeping our india free till now !
Just want to say.......
Ayee mere pyaree watan......
Ayee mere Ahle-watan.......
Tujhpe dil quarbaan ...........
Tu hi meri arzoooo.......
Tu hi meri abroooo........

The National Flag Is A Symbol Of The Nation's Pride & Respect.
There Is A Liberal Use Of The Flag
On Independence Day.
The Trend Of Selling Flags Made Up Of Paper & Plastic,
Is Incorrect.
With A Sense Of Natinal Pride,
Ppl Enthusiastically Buy Such Flags
But Very Next Day,
We Find These Flags Being Trampled
Upon The Road,
In Dustbins & Elsewhere.
In This Context, Ppl Forget That They Are Insulting The Flag. Often,
These Flags Are Burnt Along With Garbage.
It's The Duty Of Every Individual To
Maintain Proper Respect Of The National Flag.

For God Sake
Respect The National Flag

Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna

Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamare dil me hai
Dekhna hai zor kitna bazu-e-kaatil me hai
Waqt aane pe bataadenge tujhe e aasmaan
Hum abhi se kya batayen kya hamare dil me hai

Oh re Bismil kaash aate aaj tum Hindustaan
Dekhte ki mulk saara kya tashan, kya chill mein hai
Aaj ka launda yeh kehta hum to bismil thak gaye
Apni aazaadi to bhaiya laundiya ke til mein hai.

Aaj ke jalson me Bismil ek gunga gaa raha.
Aur behron ka wo rela naachta mehfil mein hai
Haath ki khadi banaane ka zamaana lag gaya
Aaj to chaddi bhi silti englison ki mill mein hai

Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamare dil me hai…
….kya batayen kya hamare dil me hai
