Just recently I was told that my selection of words was not liked by our Moderators and thus my post was altered even though there was no abusive language used.

In my view this was highly unacceptable behaviour on part of the moderators or the moderator concerned.

I do respect the person concerned as a highly respectable community elder, but nonetheless i strongly disgree with the moderators deciding which words I should have better used.

Please read underneath:

Post: Hi There Fellow Jatlanders,

I haven't had much time lat...

Thread: Finally We Have Revenge

Reason: Word Revenge is provocative and not condoned here

Jat Land Editor

Sheorayan Sahab,

I totally diasgree with your judgement ....... I am an adult and I am sane enough to choose my words.

I see you editing my post or altering my words as a Police State practise.

This is a public platform and if I post somthing here it in no way reflects that Jatland is condoning my statement. It just means that I am stating my views.

Do I have a right to state my views or do I need to seek your or somebody's else's opinion first - looks like I do.
Maybe we should send all posts to moderators for screening before posting them to see if the selection of words used or if ones opinion is indeed acceptable here.

I would not have had any problem with you posting under that thread and letting me know that you disagree with my views ....... but the fact that you editor my words - I find it highly deplorable ...

I find it rather disappointing that moderator are allowed to alter people's statment when there was no abusive or offensive language used in my post.

It just shows that moderators think this website it their private domanin and they saction people's views to be acceptable or not.

Something similar to the Chinese, North Korean or Saudi police states.

I did not state my views as reflective of Jatland's Opinion or your own opinion and there my views did not need your approval

Very Very Disappointing ........

Dear Mr. Foot Soldier,
In my opinion such claims of revenge are not only provocative but also degenerating to the community. I would like to believe that we are decent people. Other members are free to express their opinions on this topic. While there may be opinions on both sides, let us maintain the dignity of this community website. God be with you always.

I have tried to communicate to editors whenever possible that censorship doesnt work in a public forum. At least not like this.
Like this instance, when it comes out in the open, it then causes a lot of arguements and heartburn.
Now I know there is a need to maintain public decorum and although self-policing is the best kind of policing, if editors feel the need to alter or scrap something they should do that either openly and/or in conjunction with the poster.
Or at least have a code of conduct which every member signs before becoming a member. So that we can 'sell our soul' before becoming a member. The whole idea of policing like this makes me feel like I am trouble maker and reminds me of '1984/Big Brother'
So come on, have a little more faith in me. I am here to contribute or make friends and learn more about Jat culture. At least you can assume that people become members with good intentions.
I have been a member for a fairly long time now and Jatland is not the place it used to be once. Time to look inwards both by members and editors.

hmm

Bhai Vishwajeet
You used the words "Finally WE have revenge"
You may have sense of revenge in the killing of a person but you cannot put that revenge on very one's head.
We arent the taliban and we arent terrorists using islam.
The use of word 'WE' was incuding us all and frankly i feel an overwhelming majority here wouldnt want to claim it as revenge.
Putting such thing in public forums will only tarnish the image of the community.

I hope and wish that we can exact revenge on the social evils which bring bad name and sufferings to our community and society.

The decision to edit the word revenge was a wise ad sensible one.

When the other community takes its revenge, it will not be someone near or dear to us, (we are the educated protected lot). It will be some poor guy walking on the road.

Yes, the responce to the earlier killing should ve been legal and strong. Where were we then?
But claiming a public murder as revenge and achievement of our community will bring a bad name to it.

We have to make our community modern, open minded, progressive.....successful.

The biggest war we always have to fight is one which we fight with ourself. Against our negatives and drawbacks.

I am personally against any kind of censorship and will always oppose any censorship whatsoever - totally, unequivocally, vehemently oppose it!! When will we understand that words never hurt anybody - because they are just that - words. I think there is a need to act maturely and not be so uber-sensitive and insecure - get over it!!

I can only voice my opinion here - this is a private website - so I will not be able to contest the decision of the owner.

.................But I believe that the credibility of the website becomes suspect if moderators censor for no good reason - personally i dislike any kind of censorship.

no censorship?

Bhai Sid
no censorship? Yahoo chatroom iis the answer. In my 10yrs of internetting i have visited yahoo chatrooms only 3-4 times and regretted being there.

Instigating people for revenge shouldnt be allowed. If some one individually goes for revenge it is fine but why let innocent poor people die for your sense of revenge. We are not 'osama', who instigates poor people to fight, kill and die.

'no censorship' can make this place a yahoo chatroom or orkut with all false profiles and crap talk.

Navin bhai,
Those are my personal views - for the reasons I explained in my previous post. The moderators over here can edit whatever they like - I can only voice my concern over it.
You will realize that not a whole lot of posts are censored over here - because people self-regulate - so you should not worry about the doomsday scenario when Jatland turns into something unusable.
I think if you censor a grown-up - its like telling them - you are stupid, I know more than you, so shut up now!! - it would be more productive to discuss the concern and come up with some solutions. Where is the fun in shutting somebody down because the topic was a little edgy? - I think censorship is just being lazy.

The Moderator

I think I agree with Mr. Sheorain and Mr. Gulia for the following reasons:

Whatever is going on in Gohana, is in No one's interests. While we don't have to take any thing and every thing, we need to excercise restrain both in our words and actions.

I don't agree with Sidharth's view that words don't hurt any one? I guess they hurt more than a weapon. It is words that lead to any dispute to start with. So using good words is an art.

I would not go into the dispute of the word "Revenge" as Mr. Khrub must have definitely studied in a better school that I did and to me his knowledge of English is definitely better than mine. I really don't know what could be an alternate word to this?

Finally, I would say, that moderators do have a job to do and if they did edit a post without changing the meaning or message in it, then there should not be any harm in it.

What I have noticed on this forum, that most of us are very passionate about ourselves and tend to loose our cool at first instance. My request to all the members and specially, younger people is that we all must learn the art of controlling anger. While we are angry our vision becomes very narrow and we loose sight of broader picture. I can assure you that the decisions taken with a cool head are likely to be better than those taken under anger. Please try and practice the art of controlling anger and you will find life more pleasent.

I was following this thread for the past two days.
I wanted to read a few posts or so to say opinions before saying something.

Its one own perception about things and others( especially the one not close enough to them ) should not bluntly interfere in their thought process ( or should they ? )!
Now if this is the case , then i believe the moderators ( be it anywhere , jatland , orkut or elsewhere ) have a soothing role to perform more than the blunt actions.
I agree with chikkara Sir that telling people here on jatland ( which i believe that evryone is grown up and mature anough ( at least according to himself/herself) ) is actually being very intimidating to their Ego !

I really believe that a soothing word of caution asking the concerned member to have a look at his post again would really have been great rather than just editing a post ! :)

Also we must have in our mind that who all are going to read the posts , Again the similar kind of persons , persons with enough discretion and also persons with their own views and ideas about a particulat topic/event.
So a little post cannot change their whole mental makeup.

I do not find the act of moderatorship bad but it is an art to be practised in context of things.
Since wea are doing it in context of all educated , well placed , matured people , let us not interfere bluntly but with enough regards to the other's opinion as well and i believe Dev Dahiya Sir's new topic ( Straight talk v Diplomacy ) should go a long way in telling us exactly how we go about such incidents. :)

@ Navin Gulia Bhai : Offcourse i believe that in your opinion jatland is imcomparable to anything else but then again there are good along with bad things everywhere.
Nothing is perfect. U bluntly termed Orkut as something very cheap ! Might be your personal and specific experience but u cannot genralize so easily ! Can u ?

True Sir , absolutely true . And exactly this is the point i have in my mind. People here are grown up , well placed in life and have a stand on most of the topics , so when something is done against their views , it hurts their EGO and they vehemently try to oppose it with all thir efforts.
And this self defence mechanism leads them to a vicious circle.
Even at a later stage , even if they realize that they did wrong , they are not one to back off , because of their ego preventing them of doing so.

And that is why i believe if from the beginning they are just comforted and told to think /ponder over their post or views once again , then that might actually lead to a better way of convincing them that their view is not actually right . :)
:)

I hope Shweta ji is not listening or she might term me a psychologist :p

Anil

Bhai Sid and kharub, you have as much right to your opinion as i have to mine. You are not wrong in your opinion, you are different.
I have voiced my opinion. My apologies if i have sounded rude.
See brother, i feel by claiming revenge we dont bring a good name to ourselves and on top of it we instigate the other party that now its their turn to take revenge.
Instinctively revenge attracts me and everyone but we need to get over it. We can take legal and moral action against any wrong committed against us but publicly labeling it revenge is inviting other party to take action against you. And that action will be against an innocent, unprotected man. not a wise thing to do. i feel so.

Bhai Anil, yo galti kar gya mai mere bhai. Orkut ke ta nire fan ho rahe sain aajkal, orkut pai kuchh nahin kahna chaiye tha mannai, na tai meqi khair nahin. :D
i take my words back on 'orkut' and apologise too.
Bhai mere, i was just indicating what 'no censorship' can do. Aur tumne to dekha hi hoga ki kaise ladkiyon ki ya ladkon ki false profile banaake unko defame kiya jaata hai orkut pe, kyonki koi unse badla lena tha kisi baat ka.

I have been regular visitor of Jatland for 6 yrs now. Only bcoz things are tidy and organised, you kno whom you r talking to and sensible talk.

Mere khud ke threads delete bhi hue hain, move bhi hue hain.
Ab gaadi chalaate hue mera challan ho jaay to mai desh ko gaali thode hi dunga.

Jaise sabka opinion hai waise hi mera bhi opinion hai bhaaiyon, it is not more or less important.

Ya bro , i know each and ebery thing that goes on , but my point is that there are good and bad faces of everything in life , u got to take negatives in your stride and build on the positives .
Offcourse jatland is a very decent and much more organised place as compared to some of the other online sites :) , but here also we do have difference of opinion and things go ugly as well !
And the kind of spirit u show by saying that " mere bhi threads delete hue hain ..... " is surely apprecaible !
I was not of the opinion of " NO censorship " :) but was of the view of a differenct approach of censorship ( A approach which is more soothing , comforting and constructive rather than being blunt ! ) !:)

Anil....the word EGO itself relates to One's SELF so it can just be written EGO not SELF-EGO

In my view!

The case is best explained by Naveen in his post no.4 as far as the word revenge is concerned.
