Pay and Opportunities

Salary rates for Merchant Navy officers vary with the company. While at

sea, you would have free accommodation and food as well as some

transport costs. On long voyages, you may have tax-free earnings.

The pay rates given below are approximate.

Catering officers are paid in the range of £18,500 a year, rising to £22,500

- £29,500. Higher earners can make around £37,000 a year.

Shift work is usual and continuous during periods spent at sea. Ships

operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. There are

periods of shore leave lasting days or possibly weeks between the periods

at sea.

after completing 12 months ur brother has 2 pass exam of watch keeping if he is in deck side !!
on the basis of experience wat he hv got in 12 months !!!!!

thn he hv 2 again get experience of 24 months for the exam of 2nd mat (second ofFicer)....

{exams r there to make our ranks high !!!}

after second mat (experience)

he will gv exam of chief mate !!!!!(chief officer).....

Seema gi,
Now u r brother is deck cadet & after total no. of days on board should be at least 30 months (+ pre sea traing that he has already compleated ) for to appear in deck officer exams. I will suggest u that after he became Chief officer or even 2nd officer he should do DPO course from England ( Dynamic Positioning Officer ). If he do this than he can work on diving ships on 4 week on & 4 week off basis. In this way family life is also favourable & even good salary more than 300 $ per day which is around 9000 $ per month, which he can't get on merchant vessels. I mean no need to stay away from home for 8-9 months periods. Easy life good money.Thanks.
Regards.

thnx

yes dear bt it requires extra expenditures..

he hd already done pre sea couses y hv 2 do diving courses again !!!!!!!
i know money is much better but life (4 health) is not good !!!!!

well he vil decide wat to do after experience he vil know watz better 4 him !!!

well thanx for ur compliments dear devendra !!!!!!

Deep,
I don't say to do the diving course, its control tower duties that I am talking about. DPO are required on DP Vessels they are not the part of diving team its bridge staff. Its upon the personality what option he like to choose for his better future. And even in case of health ,divers breath in twice inreach of medical oxygen atmosphere mixed in Helium than a normal person , which is so healthy & so pure. A saturation diver is earning 42000 $ per month today.

Dear Deeptank,

What Mr, Sehrawat is telling is absolutly correct and now a days better life and money is not in mechant navy but in offshore. This is the real adventurious life. But mosly one can join it only after serving in merchant.
All the best.
