I agree Vicky, the context of my post earlier was a bit different though.
I am all keen for capitalism, it leads to growth but it has to be inclusive growth. Modi is making right kind of noise but it is not backed by a sound strategy, or model. We often debate about Gujarat model but no one known what a model is, and if there is one to Gujarat. Modi is giving huge benefits to corporates which people argue are for development but reality is, they are not. Major tax breaks and cheap land deals are thrown away to get businesses and people like Adani are becoming billionaires under a regime, is that the sort of capitalism we need?
Gujarat topped the list as the ‘worst state’ for labour unrest in the Economic Survey 2011, witnessing the maximum incidences of strikes, lockouts and other forms of unrest on various financial and disciplinary grounds (wage and allowances, bonus, personnel, discipline and violence) at a time when these were actually declining in the rest of the country. Now if one can not take care of things in his home ground, how can one debate for it?
Also to add, what Nehru and Indira did at that time was justified to me, if things were not nationalized then we would be ruled by a few families only like the Tatas and the Birlas. It was very important for government to keep a check on having control of a recently freed country in their hands and grow it with a plan, which we did.
