My ward after completing his XII from science stream intends to enter in animation related field. But in my opinion , he must complete his engineering related to this discipline. In my opinion if someone is interested in development part of animation and graphics then he should study "Computer Graphics" and related courses whether through Mechanical or Computer Science. And someone who is interested in application of such software to create movie and animation should do courses related to art and design such as BDes from IITG or other courses from art schools.

I think you should check the eligibility criteria of NID again.

There are few other design schools like CPDM(IISc Bangalore), IDC(IIT Bombay), IIT D,K & G, also have design programs for masters. But I dont have any idea about IITs whether there are some specific courses for Animation and Graphics. But CPDM doesnt has any specific course as such other than MDes which is general Product Design course. You can take up the projects of your interest. I think better part of CPDM is two of the faculties here are involved in research related to CAD which is somewhat related to your interests. For more details about CPDM : www.cpdm.iisc.ernet.in

Find out more about IITs, what are the courses offered there in design depts, what is their target area, etc.

Good luck.

Tried CPDM , they dnt hv any such course.
this is the response i received....

"
we can do animation to a limited extent in MDes course, using general purpose software like solidworks and ADAMS, but more inclined to simulation than animation. Moreover the course of Product Design is 50% engineering and 50% aesthetics based, so we are more focused on concepts of products than about communicating (which i believe is a fuction of a animator in visual communication)

"

is there any other inst.?

That is very much true. Whom did you communicate with in CPDM? Was it chairman?

What about IITs?
Other than these institutes I dont think that there are some institutes which are particularly devoted to animation.

I heard from someone that some studios in India are working famous product houses such as disney, WB etc but I dont know which are they exactly. If I can get more information about it I ll pass it on.

About Animation

Global Market
Global animation market (demand perspective) was estimated at USD 59 billion in 2006, estimated to reach USD 80 billion by 2010; Global market for animated content and related services (developer’s perspective) is estimated at USD 25-26 billion and is forecast to cross USD 34 billion by 2010.
Indian Market
Indian animation industry is forecast to reach USD 869 million by 2010, representing a CAGR of 25 percent over 2006-2010. To be able to maintain its share of the global pie, and grow it, there is a need for focused human capital development for animation and gaming sectors, and for Government policy support in the Indian industry. Case for Focused Human Capital Development for Animation and Gaming. The number of professionals employed by the Indian animation industry in 2006 is estimated at 16,500. This figure is forecast to increase at a CAGR of 14-15 percent by 2010. According to an industry forecast by Anderson Consulting, the animation industry in India is poised to touch a whopping USD 1.5 billion (or even more) by 2009. Notably, it was only USD 550 million at present. The growth is largely credited to the fact that bulks of the international animation assignments are being outsourced from India.

About MAAC

Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) is the academic and training wing of Maya Entertainment Limited (MEL), a leading computer animation and visual effects studio for film and television in India.
A latent demand in the Indian production houses for quality animators and visual effects professionals, spurred the need to establish an academic platform to impart and train young creative talents. This effected in the establishment of MAAC as a premier 3D Animation and Visual Effects institute in the year 2001, with its first centre in Mumbai. Today, the institute has spread across the entire length and breadth of the country with more than 60 centres and is the only animation training brand from India to have a successful presence in the Middle East, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The MAAC Advantage

MAAC holds an edge over any institute in the same field because of its USP, which revolves around CREATIVITY and PEDAGOGY. The three-fold MAAC advantage revolves around the following benefits:
Creative Team
MAAC is promoted and run by a team of creative professionals who thrive on their imagination and inspiration. Moreover the instructors are industry certified.
End Users
MAYA Entertainment, the parent group is the real life end user of all that is being offered by MAAC – both in terms of the inputs (the software) and the outputs (the trained students – since the really talented ones are absorbed in the organization itself). Also MAAC is one of the very few institutes that offer Character Animation.
Real Life Environment
Because of the business constituents of MEL, the students are trained in an On-the-job environment. Hence, the training also incorporates additional intricateElements like camera angles, storyboards, editing. MAAC’s competitors, due to infrastructural constraints cannot recreate this On-the-job environment.
Animation - The Industry
According to latest NASSCOM statistics, the Indian Animation industry is poised to reach US$ 1.5 Billion by 2009 from its current size of US$ 550 Million. Even the global digital animation industry is poised to grow from the current size of US$ 45 billion to a whopping US$ 100 billion by the end of 2009. There are already around 30,000 animation companies around the world, of which 70 percent have a turnover of US$ 1 million.
The international animation industry is increasingly looking eastwards, as the costs of real sets, studio space and outdoor location skyrocket abroad. In fact, the NASSCOM report states that around 40,000 more professionals will be needed in India by 2008. The animation industry is extremely labor intensive and has the capacity to absorb as many trained animators as are available. Especially considering the fact that India has one of the biggest film industries in the world as well as a reputation for low-cost, high quality software engineers.
The fields that require Computer Graphics & Animation are Films, TV Serials, Advertisements, Computer Games, Movie Titles and Internet sites among others. The volume in the Computer Games segment alone has been projected at about 3 times that of Hollywood. As Animation transcends language barriers, Internet sites have to rely on it heavily so as to communicate internationally. A typical animation movie requires 700 – 800 animators. Mr. Ronald D'mello, MD & CEO, MAAC draws up the following analogy, “The scope of animation in today’s scenario is similar to the demand for software 10 years ago”.

THIS IS NOT THE END…. THE NAMES ARE IN THOUSANDS…! !

MAAC IS NOW IN CHANDIGARH, LUDHIANA & DEHRADUN ALSO !!!!

My son is doing a Animation course called 3D+ from Maac Preetvihar.

Its a 2 and half year course for three days in a week. My son is satisfied with the way of working of MAAC.

animation

Thanks Dear Indu and Chahal.
Infact i was impressing upon engineering degree before opting animation for my son.
