Have anyone seen two rivals from one party to fight over one candidate??? Yeah...I am talking about Rivals- Amar Singh & Azam Khan. Candidate???? None other than Ms Jaya Prada. Now, the question arises is what was the reason which made both the leaders fight for Jaya Prada? Yesterday, in his usual dramatic behaviour Amar Singh threatened to quit the party to protest Samajwadi chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's bias for his rival Azam Khan. He said, " Azam Khan is very close to Mulayam Singhji's heart. He continues to say whatever he wants to, but I have to keep mum as Mulayam Singhji has asked me not to talk on the issue. But there is a limit to everything. I fear the time when things might go beyond control and I would have to say goodbye (suicide)".
The rift between both the leaders started since the two fell out over actor Jaya Prada's re-nomination from Khan's hometown Rampur. Khan has been furious with resentment since he was outmanoeuvred by Amar Singh over who got the ticket for Rampur Lok Sabha seat. That spat was resolved after Mulayam intervened but the bitterness remained.
Azam Khan tried to get his own back against Amar Singh by raising the stake over SP's partnership with Kalyan Singh, BJP rebel who was chief minister at the time of Babri masjid demolition. The protest by Khan, who was a minister in a government which also had Kalyan Singh's Rashtriya Kranti Party as one of its constituents, was seen as aimed against Amar Singh, who engineered the Mulayam-Kalyan partnership with an eye on OBC consolidation in central UP.
Once again, Khan had only limited success. Mulayam appeared sensitive to his dissent, but refused to reverse himself on the alliance with Kalyan Singh.
Azam Khan continues to sulk, and voice his frustration over the imposition of an "outsider" on his turf. But Amar Singh does not seem to miss him, and is running a high-voltage campaign for Jaya Prada's re-election.
