ASIAD 1982 and Commonwealth Games 2010

Yeah, all the athletes should run on the metro track. A metro train should follow them with piped oxygen and water. All people should stand on their rooftops with umbrellas to watch them in action.

You see this way it wouldn't even require any renovation of stadiums, etc. It would be very cost effective.

We have proved that China was a fool to built a new sports city outside a metro city. We have again proved that Indians are much more intelligent and innovative.

Sorry...Forgot to mention London. London is hosting next Olympics. London is not a metro city. A lot of big construction projects running in this rural suburb to build new airports, metro railways, stadiums.

Yeah..Beijing was a rural suburb in China and after hosting Olympics, all of sudden it became a metropolitan city. After all China is growing economy and is now second largest economy in the world. They have got lot of money to spend. That is why they spent just $423 million on building one stadium in Beijing. A significant amount of money was spent upon transport infrastructure to assist people and new airports were built all of sudden. In this way Beijing became a metropolitan city in China. Same case was with Sydney and Melbourne. Sydney was a rural town in Australia before hosting Olympics 2000. Government spent a lot of money to build new stadiums, airports, and railway tracks to transport athletes, spectators, and officials between venues. Same case was with Melbourne. Melbourne used to be a rural town in Australia. To build this town, Government choose Melbourne to host Commonwealth Games in 2006. Yeah you are right. Indian Government did a blunder of choosing Delhi as a host city. Bhiwani is most appropriate place to host these games. Government should first build an Airport in Bhiwani and Metro, new highways, stadiums to host these Commonwealth games. In this way, India will have a new Metropolitan city.

So you are saying that all these cities had similar infrastructure as Delhi and the commmonwealth complex in Delhi. Well, do some google search and see it yourself.

China built a new sports complex outside the city, similar to the Asiad Village in Delhi. And for your general knowledge, the Asiad village was a jungle at that time, far from city.

The same thing could have been done this time as well. For example, a place like the upcoming education and sports city near Sonipat (Rai, 20 Miles north of delhi) looked a reasonable place. It also has some v.good sports infrastructure in the MNSS school. I have studied there.

The next (next to China) best comparable thing for the games is the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. Only a fool will compare Delhi's infrastructure with Sydney, Melbourne and London.

Also worth comparing is the wiki writeup on the commonwealth games.

See the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Commonwealth_Games
Can compare and compare it with
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Commonwealth_Games - Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_Commonwealth_Games - Manchester, England
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_Commonwealth_Games - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kabuter ki tarah muh chupane si kya sab kuch chup jayega.

Wise people admit their mistakes and take corrective actions.

Srinagar mein karwa hoo thee game... :)

Yadi Srinagar nahi to Naxal aale area mai karwa howai the ye game..Comrades ko power deni thi sarkar ne..aur tribes ko jameen.. :D. Comrades construction karwa dete arr tribes apni jameen ka use us hisab se karte.

Well, I don't need to google for Sydney and Melbourne. I have seen these places and i know the infrastructure. To host a game, a city should have good infrastructure to support these games. For example, the sporting infrastructure ,stadiums, the capacity of stadiums to hold large crowd of spectators, transport infrastructure etc. Melbourne and Sydney has the same and Delhi is no more different.

The main sporting complex was in Beijing which hosted main events. There were some events which held outside Beijing city as Olympics is a major event than commonwealth games.

OK. So you want me to compare Sonipat with Sydney, Melbourne and London or something else. To develop a new sporting complex from scratch would cost more than renovating which is already developed. Yes if they can organize some events outside the city, then that can be a good start to develop a new sporting complex.

lol.....Delhi and Sydney no more different...

Beijing Olympics Village was on the outskirts of the city.
Agreed that Olympics is a major event not worth comparing in India's commonwealth games context, however, the approach taken by China has been appreciated world over. So why not take some learning from it.

There were more new sporting complexes built In India itself for the ASIAD then the coming Commonwealth games. And those were built in just two years. That was way back in 1982.

Agreed that if one go buy the current corruption standards, building new one was more dangerous as well. The old ones atleast wont carve-in and bury the gusts. That way, it's good.
