Hi Everyone,
Here in America, most Jat parents tell their children what they should be or need to be. Some parents (fortunately mine) tell us we can be what we want. Here in America most of our parents immigrated in the 70's and 80's. Whatever the culture was back then is what is preserved here in America. Changing means loosing that culture.
But in India one can change without loosing thier culture. That is why India is becoming so advanced and modern. Do parents in India tell you what you need to be or should be for your career?
Just Curious

I think parents do make suggestions about the career path you should choose. They have an inclination towards more conventional options (mainly medicine and engg) because till some time back those were best bets to earn a living in India. And personally I am very grateful to my parents for their suggestions because I think I was too naive to make the decision on my own.
Cheers,
Kismat

Hi Anjulie,
i think the attitude of parents is now changing, even of Jat parents. Parents have become more understanding now. This is i am telling you on the basis of my personal experience. My parents just say one thing to me and my brother that "do whatever you want to do, but do your best in that field"!
