What so you guys think of this. I am quite used of writing 'om' on all answer sheets, because I think that brings good luck, seems that 'secular' cong govt doesn't like this even. I am not sure whether any other religion has 'symbol' or something. So whoever want himself to be called secular, attack hinduism !!

Ban on religious symbols on exam sheets

March 16, 2005 19:31 IST

The Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education issued a circular to all schools in Mumbai banning students from drawing religious symbols on their exam papers.

The circular stating the rule was put up at exam centres on Wednesday. The board specified that if any such symbols were found 'anywhere on the exam paper' the student would be disqualified for 'cheating'.

The board observed that sometimes students draw the Om or cross symbol on their answer sheets to influence evaluators. They added that students also use these symbols to pass on information to other students.

Board members claimed that drawing such symbols is tantamount to disclosing one's name and number on the exam sheets as it indicates the student's caste/religion.

They added that this rule was not new and was stated on the back of all the hall tickets.

The SSC exams started in the city on Tuesday.

Religious Symbols

What if the examiner is biased and the chosen
religious symbol works against the examinee?

For example Swastika [Hindu symbol] may offend
a Jewish examiner.

Besides, why is it important to have symbols
of this nature?

I think we must keep religion confined to our homes only. There should not be any kind of marking including the religeous symbols on the answer sheets to keep the identity of the examinee confidential. This is in the interest of every one. I think the decision taken by the government is legitimate and correct and we all must support it.

If some one thinks that it brings luck, then you can write it on your hand or some where else rather on the answer sheet.
