BBC Documentary - India's Daughter

I watched this documentary. I agree with Rekha on most of the points. It is nothing but malign the image of India. All those people who have spoken against the system are given a script to read and they did it for the best reasons known to them. Lawyers have given their biased opinion and Bar council will take care of it. In my opinion this documentary should be investigated for the authenticity which I doubt.

One has to prepare manuscripts to publish an article in journal or paper, same way, a script is needed for an interview, play, drama, movie, documentary etc. I see nothing wrong in reading a script ...otherwise more take/retake in interview and editing etc, ... Whether, we agree or disagree, it surely reflect the mind set of a section of society of this land and this is hard reality of a section of Bharat....It is very true that it create the image of "India" at world forum as an unsafe country and biased society... and who knows, this may be greater game plan of some one to dent the image of India .....

The govt has banned the film, further sensitizing the issue... you biggest retards in the govt, whom are you fooling? (sic). Let the whole world know that we the Indians are the biggest hypocrites on the planet earth.

Let's have a Nirbhaya protest every year, when conventional social media will become full of competitive victim hood... a kind of Muharram for this never ending "
हाय तौबा". Economy, Defence, Healthcare, Swine Flu, Farmer Suicides, Terrorism, all doesn't matter. Outrage fortnight is here !

... My view's

Does this subject need any discussion or d'you think it's just waste of time? I mean... हाड़े त न्यू ही चालै
sir ji, west ko to topic chahiye India ko malign karne ke liye. Is tarah ki documentary se India ke tourism ka to satya nash ho jaayega. Jahan tak India ke journalists ki baat hai to wo to aise hi karte rehte hain. Khabar bechne ke liye ye sab chalta rehta hai. Jayda secularism ya freedom se bhi kuch aani jaani nahi hai.

Jahan tak India mei logo ki soch ki baat hai wo to samay ke saath change hoyegi. Is documentary se kuch nahi hone wala change. Is documentary se buss India ke tourism ko nuksaan hona hai. aur India ki image ka. Ye west wale countries bade chalak hain. apne andar ka kuch dikhate nahi aur India jaise countries ko salah dene pahuch jaate hain. India hi milta sabko. Aur to aur Pakistan ko hi dekh lo. Jaab secularism ki baat aati hai, to Indian media ke uthaye hue chote mote incidents ko Pak media aise highlight karti hai jaise India mei minorities ka bura haal ho rakha hai. Jabki unke khud ke desh mei dekho to pata chale. Apni media itna kuch highlight nahi karti unke baare mei. sirf apne mei hi khoob kami dikhati hai. kya karein sir, aise hi chalta hai sab.

West mei kitna racism hai phir bhi ye log India ko salah dene aa jaate hain. khair jo bhi hai. Govt ne thik hi kiya is documentary ke upar ban laga kar. Aise hi sabak milega in west waalo ko.

amit ji, my opening post was more of a sarcasm rather than my viewpoint, though touching both sides of the issue. if you read between the lines on my other posts, you’ll get an idea where my thoughts are up to. being the orator of the thread, it’s my responsibility to carry the discussions highlighting both aspects of the issue. i’m at jatland after a while and a bit disappointed that there are very few members available for participation.

to add further... use of outrage works from feeding social unrest, leading to chaos, intending downfall of the government is a favorite foreign Intelligence agency wet dream.

I saw the documentary yesterday and I think it should be made compulsory watching in high schools and colleges across the country, especially in North India. The statements and views of the convicted, the defense lawyers and others should be debated and discussed by students led by their tutors. And it should be the responsibility of the tutors to help students and the youth understand flawed beliefs of supremacy, honour and a girl's standing in society. Our syllabus are full of deeds of various great men and women from which we are told to take lesson and whose example we are asked to follow. Let the girl's life and fight with the rapists, be at the losing end as it was, be an example of others to follow.

Lets not brush it under the carpet. lets accept and learn from it. Otherwise we will have countless more Nirbhayas and are still continuing to have beyond our attention. Only when we document, discuss, debate and reflect do we imbibe and change. Media - films/documentary, articles, letters are a tremendous instrument of bringing about that change via documentation.

कॉंगरेचुलेशन्स !!! फिर क्या ख़याल है आपका ?

I don't know why Indian Govt. Banned it. There was a trend about rape in Indian Cinema history among 1985-2000. Villain used to rape hero mother and sister. Heroes used to suffer whole movie. Only last 5 min of movie were good for heroes. But this is documentary which shows you a reality about a criminal mindset. I just want to say that people must need to know what is a life after being a criminal. If you want to stop any crime you must need to know why it's happening. There must be a case study and documentary about it.

There could be only three causes of any crime.

# Revenge
# Conditions
# Mental Disorder http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Bernardo

I personally feel there are two reasons for rape case. Revenge or Mental Disorder. Otherwise no one dare to tough any woman.

People are too wrong about Indian. Woman are more safer in India than other countries. Visit African countries, Russia, United States, Even many Hollywood Actress faced sexual harassment. Around 5,000 sexual harassment cases annually in USA.

Change hoga bhai. Rape hone wali ladki or uske pure khandaan ko pura desh jaan jata hai per rape karne wale ka koi sakal or name nhi koi nhi janta.

Ladki ki identity ko chupkar, Ladke or ladke ke pure khaandaan Bhaart nikalni chiye.

I know Rape cases bahut jhootey bhi hote hai. Per ye wala case totally different, worst thing ever happened on earth.

i agree to above to a certain extent.

the documentary tries to portray the whole indian society as evil by selectively showing sensational bits (unless i'm terribly wrong). though the video may not represent mindset of majority of indians in terms of respect towards women, however the incident does expose the slave mentality of various people coming in support of BBC. unintentionally, this also exposes the preaching mindset of english people. however, it is ironical that more educated a person becomes more attracted he seems to be towards colonial mindset. this isn't a isolated documentary. it is a women's day campaign that was advanced, because the entire world is conspiring against india (pun inteded). lauding BBC for showing a mirror to India, via this video of an interview of a rapist and death convict?...
ManjeetS are you sure?

p.s.: the views expressed above may or may not represent my opinion. the reply above is intended to get more ideas on the subject matter and on the related aspects.

I am surprised that people are defending this as well on behalf of government, it is based on such blind and irrational support only that governments can do what ever they want. India has already become Banistan, wonder what is in store for future.

Why don't we see the positives of the film? The documentary clearly says that Indian masses started a revolution or sorts with out any political leader, political party or association calling to be united and that lead to faster conviction of these accused. Now- I assume all people around the world have enough sense to judge a country by its masses and not by a few culprits whose mentality is criticized to the core.

In India we make movies on dacoits, smugglers and what not. Rape was a common scene in large number of Bollywood movies. Godse's speech justifying Gandhi's murder is readily available on Youtube. Hate speeches of Togadia and Akbaruddin Oasi are all over youtube. With this background I fail to understand the reason of banning this documentary. Who knows the ban is part of making this documentary more famous as often is done with many movies by creating controversies.
