Best Prime Minister of India so far !!

Who is The best PM of India ??

  • Total voters
    127
Well, since no criteria's are mentioned.

1. P V Narasimha Rao
2. A B Vajapayee/Manmohan Singh
3. Rajeev Gandhi

Hence, as an MBA student, my vote certainly goes to Late Mr. P V Narasimha Rao-"Father of Indian economic Reforms" & "Chanakya of Modern India" (for his ability to steer tough economic and political legislation through the parliament at a time when he headed a minority government)

he rescued the almost bankrupt nation from economic collapse.

Dismantling of liscence raj
Liberalisation of Indian Economy
Economic Reforms
changes in the regulation of Foreign Direct Investment to encourage it
permitting Indian firms to raise capital on International Market by issuing GDR.
Introducing the SEBI Act of 1992.
Privatisation of public sector

The impact of these reforms may be gauged from the fact that total foreign investment (including foreign direct investment, portfolio investment, and investment raised on international capital markets) in India grew from a minuscule US $132 million in 1991-92 to $5.3 billion in 1995-96.

he also appointed non-political economist the future PM Dr. Manmohan singh as his Finance Minister.

Also, he defeated nandyal by victory margin of 5 Lacs votes and his win was recorded in the Guinness Book Of World Records.

Rao's term also saw the Babri Masjid demolition which was an unfortunate incident in Indian History.

A lot more is there..to write..but as i see only myself voting to him..so lemme find few more supports..

First detailed and informative reply.

Thanks Goyat! :)

That's different issue altogether ... You can start a new thread for the same, if you like to.

I asked fairly simple question, voting is ok but till now no satisfactory n' informative replies.

Sir, you may desist from replying if you don't find this thread of your interest.

Thanks !

sorry but it will be better to discuss qualities of the best PM and our expectations from them in the same thread. AFter all this discussion (poll) is about the best PM HOW and WHY. And then it will be easy to analyze How all these PM in the list missing those qualities and unable to performed as per our expectations. and who is the best among them.

IF its not relevant kindly just ignore it.

PV Narasimha Rao......

1. In July 1993, Rao's government was facing a no-confidence motion, because the opposition felt that it did not have sufficient numbers to prove a majority. It was alleged that Rao, through a representative, offered millions of rupees to members of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and possibly a breakaway faction of the Janata Dal, to vote for him during the confidence motion.
2. In 1996, after Rao's term in office had expired, investigations began in earnest in the case.
3. In 2000, after years of legal proceedings, a special court convicted Rao and his colleague, Buta Singh (who is alleged to have escorted the MPs to the Prime Minister)
4. Rao, along with fellow minister K.K. Tewary, Chandraswami and K.N. Aggarwal were accused of forging documents showing that Ajeya Singh had opened a bank account in the First Trust Corporation Bank in St. Kitts and deposited $21 million in it, making his father V.P. Singh its beneficiary
5. Lakhubhai Pathak, an Indian businessman living in England alleged that Chandraswami and K.N. Aggarwal alias Mamaji, along with Mr. Rao, cheated him out of $100,000.00. The amount was given for an express promise for allowing supplies of paper pulp in India, and Pathak alleged that he spent an additional $30,000.00 entertaining Chandraswami and his secretary
6. Also involved scandal where in Indian Stock Market plunged and dropped thousands of point in matter of days
7. Big Bull (Harshad Mehta) Scandal for bribery of Rs 1 crore in cash and other in form of stock prices.

Humm, You're welcome ! :)

I concur with you Bipin ji ! I think, this is first balanced reply on this thread... :rock

62 year of independence still political class is saying .,.,.,.,.,.,,our govt has procured drinking water ,sanitation ,food ,electricity ,maternity centres etc etc etc to our remote villages where bharat resides nd its a achievements../// if procurement of these basic necessity for man kind is considered as a achievement then i dont think not a single party or PM had done enough. Nobody has ever dared to shoulder up the responsibility of social welfare everybody want to rule.

But still i thnk Lal Bhadur Shashtri nd Atal Bihari Vajpayee were the bests.

Valid point Akshay bhai.

Btw do you know what are the "parameters" for being "senior" member? We can discuss about 'Best PM' later..... :rock :rock

I 'concur' wid you on lines written in bold. Anyways, lets continue with the discussion!

sorry to interrupt the fruitfull and valuable discussion.

But does this implies that Junior members should not write or vote on this thread anymore?

Sorry to disturb the topic again, but some of us here just wait for a specific person to write and then start their own discussion. Anyways please carry on with the discussion.

No Anil bhai, i really don't know the parameters. If it is Senior Members then it can be those people who joined Jatland long time back else they may be senior citizens(unlikely). Also/May be the another way to catagorise the senior members is according to material of their Post(which most of the time is difficult to understand). Couldn't find/conclude the real message from trolling thread.

Anyway Jit has already clarify the senior members seen and experienced many governments and also may have closely observed working of various PMs and for sure they have invaluable knowledge and experiences to share ....So ofcourse he meant senior citizens rather than senior members of JL.

Also every PM had some good and bad things happened during his or her tenure. So the point of discussion here can also be who is least Bad PM.

Thanks Akshay for understanding my viewpoint about Senior members !

Ya, agree with you here, nobody is perfect .. everyone has good and bad traits just like that certainly there are good jobs and bad mistakes done by various PMs, but here I would like to emphasis only on Positive part ! :)

he even forgot at times when he slept off, tht he was pm of India... procrastination seemed to be his only virtue ! we need more like him... hold on folks, why are you forgetting vp singh who had the #@lls to implement the mandal commission report which served as a tool in eradicating the "manuvadi" system... (bless bahin-ji)... lol... nd not to forget tht balia ka bihari - chandarshekhar (ik gujral also)... what an era tht was... still yearn for those dayzzz.

waiting for the day when some young grey cells take the charge... o yaa, as said by sid, rahul baba is in the line... sad, but true ! no one even comes close ! bless india !!!

... since no parameters are defined, i wud go for lb.shastri for all the other reasons in the world incl. his simplicity, honesty nd guts.

ABVP :

Since I have seen him as the prime minister , He did a great job with wahtever resources he had! :)

Thanks,
anil

And I disagree with you more respectfully !

Don't wanna get into her personal life and related issues cuz' it was her personal life ... there might be some trueness in the allegations and may be few of them are totally wrong. Whatever lets not focus on her personal fronts.

But when it comes to National interest she gave in all, her dedication and patriotism for the nation was of highest order. As a PM her leadership and decision making qualities were matchless. She served India when it was facing toughest time and there was need of the hour to have tough leader like her. She showed her mettle and stood tall for the nation against all odds.

Nowadays I'm reading a book on RA&W, 'Kaoboys of RA&W - down memory lane' .. it depicts how hard was the time of early 70's . East Pakistan terrorism, Nagaland and Misoram based insurgencies and not to forget Khalistan's rise. Even after so much international pressure she took a very wise decision to free east pakistan and make a new libral country Bangladesh, her efforts to help spread peace in the eastern part of India were commendable.

I'm sure had it been some other PM at that time, our nation would have divided into parts like Russia. China, Pakistan and USA tried their best to detrimental our nation but it was Iron lady's guts and nerves of steel that saved nation.

If you look on her professional fronts she was a dhaakad PM, we need a Male PM like her.

Jit, I disagree respectfuly to buy your best among the list.

Yes it requires will and zero conscience to get inseminated by two men and later get blackmailed by the son and his whims. It also requires will to plot a conspiracy to kill LB Shashtri for sole purpose of power. Where are the applauds for the ONLY man India has produced? She could have been the person of centuary to be brought on the hot seat of 'Sach Ka Samna'.

Thanks Jit

So I do not expect God come to India with His all qualities and Become the best PM. I just expect

1. A Happy person ( Dukhi PM dukhi hi karega) who has good image among Indian populace and People love him/her.
2. I don't expect him/her to be Chankya but I expect if he/she see Chankya then he must invite him and respect and use his knowledge in the development of our nation.
3. I don't expect he will not commit any mistake, but must be ready to learn from it.
4. I don't expect He must be powerful that no one able to open mouth in front of Him rather he must be in approach in all And everybody able to express his views.
5. Out side India He must represent a good Image Of Indian { See Atalji with US prez and Rajiv with the same}
6. I don't expect Him to be Mahatma but He should give respect to Mahatmas.

AND based on these points I have given my Vote to Rajiv Gandhi.

Its strange our First PM got 0 Vote................Kash Aazad hind fauz jeet gai hoti aur hum Subhash Babu ko PM ke Roop mein dekhte tho I am sure he got the maximum Votes here.

Best PM would be Lal Bahadur shastri simply for being the only man who was honest, approachable and having no agenda religious or otherwise.

Re-read your post and focus on words in red and try to equate these word with word EMERGENCY.You would probably hear some notes composed by Dhakad PM. Undoubtly, peak of professionalism/national interest and nothing sort of personal greed. Righto, nah?

If not, carry on the 'dhakad Male PM fantasy' and wait for her modern incarnation. I do not possess any skill further to disturb that even if I want to.

I've read it duly, and for EMERGENCY situation I got something for ya to read. :)

Attaching a excerpt of P.N. Dhar’s Book “Indira Gandhi : The Emergency and Indian Democracy” on Emergency period. Read it and ponder upon !

Special thanks to Mukesh for giving in lot of time and hard work in typing this excerpt.
Earlier he also started a thread for the same but no much attention was given.

Jit, unfortunately, zipped folder didnt work. Anyways appreciate your efforts for glorifying whatever was it. PN Dhar along with PN Hasker were known Kashmiri Mafia in Indira's loyal circle said to play an important part in pushing Indira as national heroine and toring National congress apart. Nevertheless, to me discussion is over without accepting how and why of loyal slave's justfication/rationalisation of emergency and aftereffects. I rate Indira Ghandhi a big double zero on the scale of ten.

WORST CHOICE :

Have not even dreamt that someone would name
' P V Narasimha Rao ' as best PM.

Felt very bad!! That to be by a JAT !!
( Hoping he must not be true JAT : Both parents as Jats & belonging to same state..also if married , then only to girl of his own state ..& Jat )

His only work is encouraging AAYA RAM GAYA RAM Bhajan Lal ...

Sach main...very very very bad choice.

Rajiv Gandhi : Jst for the sake of choice.

Although i dont think he get much time and did any well for long lasting result But what he started opening up market and a Good Posture with Energetic face. P V Narsimha didnt started the Liberalization as it was already started by the Rajiv Gandhi.

1. Jawahar lal : Didnt done much at time when it need Most. Just make country survive. Kept All legacy of "BRITISH RAJ" that is still hindering the socialistic Growth of the nation. All though with good intentions but just not fit for the job in hand.

2. Lal Bahdur Shastri : I dont know much what he did? Good Man but what we expecting from him? He was not a bold man. Just got the PM post due to work in Freedom Fight Just like Nehru.

3. Indira Gandhi : Self Determined and self centerd, who is caring for nation. Just powering her self. Quota-Permit-License Raj, Kept Country 30 years Behind the race. Emerging Scientist, Bussiness man and Kisan all are deprived of lot. What ever we get at that time was due to strong will people not her.

4. Rajiv Gandhi : Ok but didnt get much time and many mistakes never get time to rectify. Started opening doors which his family closed.but Great Personality at the time and worked toward better nation building.

5. VP Singh,P V Narsimha : At right place at right time with a lot of luck. What other things they have in them for becoming the prime minister.Still Did a lot of Harm to country in many parts. But they dont have much legacy so xxxxCrates get open hand and some right things happen and they didnt done much bad to that. This also is a good thing we should thank them for.

6. A.V Bajpai : good Person at Wrong time with not much experience of younger generation policy.

7. Present One : She is not on seat and so we cant name her, I am Talking about Sonia!! Do you think Manmohan is PM? HE is Good Person but still develoment he is Stealing from developed nation, cant create. So we always be Follower and not leader.
