Semi-literacy and filmi glitter make our youth make day-dream a bit too much. When they are confronted with the bitter life realties they buckle under pressure and are unable to handle the situation. Departure from joint family system and onset of nucleus family system has an important role to play in children behaving in an arrogant way and not being able to adjust in new family set-up after marriage.

...was out of Jatland for about a week. No, wasn't on a space mission...just landed up on my holy Delhi mother earth.
Here is what I feel on the topic being discussed:
It has come with education. People, Jats in particular, used to be within their own boundaries earlier. Seldom they used to move out of their villages and even if they did their mindset was, in many cases it still is, totally traditional. Nowadays, not just husbands but wives too are working. Leave apart teachers, there are many who are working in IT {taking IT as an example 'coz mez too an IT guy}. Because of hectic work schedules they need to stay late in office many-a-times. Now, this is what troubles their family. Sasu's want someone at home who could give them a helping hand while the sasurs are still wondering what actually they work on computers. In almost all the cases it is unacceptable. "NO no....no Software voftware girl. We would rather prefer a teacher-girl for our son" is what we get to hear more often these days. Don't know what is in store for me though.
.
If you ask me, the girl should be intelligent enough to handle both part of their lives. At the same time, the parents at home should also understand and accept occasional late nights the girl needs to take in office. It has to be mutual. If not, trouble it would be, surely.
As far as dowry is concerned it would be far much better if the girl brings some intelligence rather than the so-called materialistic things. If you ask me, the life of a girl after marriage is very demanding...very tough. My salute to all women who, with their understanding and intelligence, live their lives serving their parents and working on a job, peacefully.
with salutes,
$umit
