And What About Other Parties?
Some times we dont' even know what we are writing or talking, for we have our very strong likings and dislikings or say convictions.
When I was growing up I used to hear from the village elders "Jansangh to Sarmayedaron Ki Party Hai". Well at that age, I did not even know the meaning of Sarmayedar. These elders never explained me that word or I never asked them that word. In simplicity it boiled down to the party of Baniya's and Brahmins. I would have been Bania, Brahmin and Rajputs if Rajputs were a deciding factor in Western UP. The fact is most of the people who entered politics irrespective of their caste or religion were rich, wheter it was Jansangh, (BJP) or Congress (old or new, (I) or not aeyee).
Whatever Mr. Tomar has written may be true. I am neither a BJP fan nor a Congress fan. My political views are issue based and my choice of a politician is based on his/her credibility as I perceive it. What I intend to discuss is that which is the political party that has done a lot for farmers, and if that party did a good job why did farmers rejected them?
We all agree that India is an agricultural economy. 70% people live off agriculture. If that be so, then a political party which was known as farmer's party (BKD, or later Lok Dal) should have never lost in elections. But the fact of matter is they did. What are the reasons? Does this demotivates the political parties to do some thing for farmers.
The truth is, though we call that we are doing for farmers, labor class, or poor, we still belive that we are doing for jats, rajputs, brahmins and bania's. What pains me a lot is that since ages we as a community are claiming that we are the best community in hard work, honesty and what not (by our definition of these words) and for all our failures we are blaming Brahmins and Banias and in some cases even Rajputs and SC/ST etc. I always wonder and ask myself a question: that if we were the best, how is that people not better than us could harm us?)
I think we need to get out of our perceptions of Political parties and communities. We have good and bad people every where including in our own community. We probably need to redefine our definitions of hard work, truthfulness, and honesty. The configuration of parties have changed over the past 60 years. Even ideology may have changed in these years in various political parties and communities. Let us try and build a Indian community rather than divide it. Let us look beyond our nose and make our outlook broader. Let me assure you, the picture would be much more clear if we do so.
I know, my comments may not be to the liking of some of us, but then that is OK, that is why we have a discussion. I invite comments from members about my own perception. And let me assure you please: "Criticism if it hurts, it was well deserved"
